    Martirio = martydom. This song is about calling out someone who lives life as a martyr - an eternal victim. The video was shot in the Icamole desert north of Monterrey, MX. They said that when they returned home from shooting they had sand and dust in every crevice of their bodies.

      They have mentioned it's MUCH more difficult to write Spanish songs than English, probably because English grammar is (slightly) simpler and as a "mish-mash" of other languages, English offers more opportunities to rhyme/rhythm correctly. And even then they occasionally jam syllables together to "make the meaning fit the music" rather than catering entirely to the tune... which I'm actually perfectly fine with. I appreciate lyrics a tad more than the tunes anyway, but maybe that's just me. 😉

    It is impressive whenever you see them perform this song in the US or Canada and see a healthy majority of the audience singing along in Spanish. The cultural impact of Dany, Pau, and Ale cannot be understated. They are effective cultural ambassadors. Their parents are not musicians. Their mother is a dentist. Their father is a sound engineer.
    Fun Facts about the video: It was filmed in the Sonora Desert near Monterrey, Mexico where they live. The "filming' session went from early morning to well after dark. It was extremely windy, blowing dust and grit into their faces throughout. The white fabric that is blowing in the wind was originally intended to be a tent stretched over the frame beneath which the ladies would perform. The wind wrecked that idea. I think the effect is pretty cool as it turned out, but it made for a miserable situation as they played their instruments. It was 113 degrees F that day, and they were fighting wasps throughout. How is that for dedication to your craft?

    Martirio
    English translation
    *Martyrdom = Pain - Torment - Suffering
    * Even though the Spanish word martirio literally translates to the English word martyrdom, the English word martyrdom has a different meaning than the Spanish word martirio. The Spanish word martirio just means pain, torment, and suffering. It is not associated with 'suffering for a noble cause' the way it is in the English language.
    Lyrics-
    Sometimes the obvious things
    are the most difficult to see
    You choked with your own hands
    When everything points that
    finally someone will rescue you
    You find yourself abandoned again
    Drown yourself in your painful suffering torment
    It's your destiny, give in
    You try to find an explanation in
    the deepest of your being
    And you fall into the void again
    At last you realize in secret
    that the pain will stay
    Will be your new life of suffering torment
    There's no turning back, you can't
    escape from the fire at your feet
    And in the darkness, you'll get lost
    Drown yourself in your painful suffering torment
    It's your destiny, give in
    (guitar solo)
    Sometimes the obvious things
    are the most difficult to see
    (walk down bass line)
    Drown yourself in your painful suffering torment
    It's your destiny, give in
    Learn from the ones who suffered
    If you have to live in fear, it's best to
    die at the hands of a goodbye
    To your sad life, foolish martyr,
    say goodbye
    Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
    Whoa Ah
    (guitar solo)
    Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
    🗣 Looking forward to hearing your new music with some crunchy metal rhythm guitar!
    🤘🤓

      @morthnadic1 Рік тому +2

      Thank you@@Emanon905. I actually learned that from a comment I read under this song or a reaction to it. It was from a bilingual individual who explained the Spanish meaning of the word martyrdom in their culture. I may not be exactly spot on but I feel certain I'm closer than if you just translate it word for word in google translate. I imagine the song must have a huge impact on people in Spanish speaking cultures.

      @sergiogonzalez1400 Рік тому +3

      @@morthnadic1Your precision and your interpretation of the concept and the way in which we Spanish-speakers perceive the song is very correct, but as always the girls leave that space where everyone makes their own interpretation of the lyrics and they can all be correct. Personally, for me it is a wake-up call to stop victimizing yourself and take responsibility for leaving those attitudes, leaving your fears and moving forward since you cannot expect anyone to come and rescue you, you only have to do it yourself. It's just an anthem that delivers that reality check right in the face.

    • @morthnadic1
      @morthnadic1 Рік тому +3

      And a reality check we can all use!
      🗣 Thank you@@sergiogonzalez1400 for your comment and what the song means to you personally. I was blown away when I first read the translated lyrics and immediately thought of how impactful Martirio is; especially to Spanish speakers. I also learned how frustrating it must be to Spanish speakers when they listen to The Warning's English lyrical songs. 🤔

    This tune always gut-punches me, because I lived that sort of life. I wallowed in my own misery for far, far too many years... finally decided I was "sick and tired of being sick and tired" and dealt with it decades ago, but, well, "the echoes still remain".
    And while their parents enjoyed music "on a consumer level" and loved doing things like watching concert DVDs for "family movie night"... their professions had nothing to do with music. Their father was a civil engineer, and their mother a dentist (at this point, they've kind of quit their careers and "the band" is now a family business).
    Giving kids piano lessons is sort of _de rigueur_ for upper-middle-class Mexicans, so that wasn't particularly unusual in and of itself... but it really was the silly video game that got them on this path. It's their own native talent, and their serious work ethic that makes The Warning so exceptional, IMHO.
