I was one of Graham’s “first” subscribers when I found his channel he only had about 100k his content was good and educational and basic. Unfortunately eventually I started noticing the greed growing in him. His content began to change and I started to watch his videos less and less. His content no longer was to help and educate but to grow his channel and feed his greed. His early stuff is good and can be helpful. But at some point he sacrificed quality for quantity.
I used to watch him a lot as well.. I still tune in from time to time. His videos are decent. But he has gotten more click-baity, like most of these influencers do... I used to like watching him react to the videos of how ppl live and spend their money.
Being an actual financial adviser myself, I get livid when I see people disclaim their BS as 'not financial advice' on social media when, in fact, they are 100% providing financial advice.
they 100% throw that phrase around because for an ego boost. knew many of the finance wannabe bros at my uni. they would all recycle the same spiel about the s&p 500, roth iras, and interest rates as if they were giving groundbreaking news. as if their recycled "advice" was not located on the first page of google. but they would look so proud of themselves, so smart and legit whenever they'd hit you with their disclaimer line 🤬
The problem is you now become stream lined into buy products and services that they want you to see and influence how you think and where you put your money. Most all these people are trying to sell you something. It is very rare to find people that are just sharing what works for them and then you the viewer can decide if what they are doing will work for your scenario.
I can’t watch him either anymore -- he’s got a music degree and has the balls to be giving financial advice (while saying he isn’t, but he IS) to other people. Like great so glad all these unqualified folks can just give advice Willy nilly~ (I’m an actual auditor. I audit major banks.)
@@voltaireonokay, but his advice is valid. Most of the time it’s about not spending frivolously and setting up savings accounts and how to budget. Also if you are already in a space where you should have financial literacy then why are you watching these people anyways? I just find it odd to watch the content of someone that is clearly making videos for beginners but you rag on them because you’re a professional in that industry and it doesn’t help you in particular. Sounds like you need an actual mentor who is qualified to teach you more and not some person on UA-cam.
Even him can be “eh”. His stance on universities and certifications is not the best advice. Not to mention his obsession with real estate (which requires taking debt)
Homegirl roasted them with the actual data. LOVE THIS. Proves the age-old advice that investing in a target-date fund with a modest return will win out over finance guru predictions almost every time.
She is judging them for 1 video, thats not data, Graham and Andrei recommend in first place to invest in ETFs like Vanguard or Charles Schwab. She is talking about them only for getting views
Lol these guys are investing for long term 15-20 years, she's using data only from end of 2021 from one video.....yeah huge burn 🔥 those guys make their portfolio public, and most of them hit around 8-9%....sounds pretty good to me
Please check the price of the same stocks she talked about now! She made this video 7 months ago at pretty much the bottom of the market. Funny how people think she has their best interest in their mind!
Did the same. Put a bunch into his picks and then watched them collapse. DTD and VTV has been very stable for me so those are my default picks for cash unless I have money I'm willing to risk.
Absolutely your fault. Stock picking is luck based. There are studies of hedge fund managers, none of them outperformed index in the long run, few lucky ones outperformed in short term. Literally nobody can pick stocks, stop falling for egomaniac thinking they can.
As someone who was looking to buy a house. Graham's videos were a MUST. Just like you said in your video, I felt like I could not miss out on any of his videos because he made it seem like there was "game-changing" information in the video. I'm sure I spent months watching every single video he would put out. It took me hundreds of hours watching his videos before realizing they were all the same. Always reading these crazy headlines from news outlets that played into the same click-bait, just to end up giving the same old and vague advise "diversify" "have an emergency fund." I got really far away from financial youtube because of him
Caleb Hammer is the only finance youtuber I trust and would recommend to other people. It's not about making x investment into Y thing, it's about budgetting and being smart about credit/debt management and in fact very explicitly says he does not recommend specific investments like what stocks to buy since it's irresponsible.
I would also add The Money Guy show. One is a cpa and the other a cpf. These guys never tell you exactly where to invest your money. Rather give a really nuanced approach on how to prepare for retirement. They have some of the best info on the internet outside the first couple of steps like paying off debt and an emergency fund.
@@pearcakehe just helps them budget, he’s not attempting to be a financial professional. People frequently ask him where they should invest and he defers
The problem we run into ultimately is that we have an economy of grift... And most of our influencers are actually more concerned with maximizing their personal wealth using people's insecurities in multiple areas of life (finance, personal development, health, etc). The sad reality is even as their grifting a large segment of society, that same segment will look up to them based on the wealth they've accumulated not in how they received it...
This is the most perfect comment I’ve seen. I completely agree, especially the statement that society values individuals based on the amount of wealth they obtained and completely ignores their methods of achieving it. The reality is those respective methods are usually highly unethical/immoral.
the grift is getting absolutely out of control and making the internet a horrible place to be nowadays. there was never a better time to go and touch some grass.
Only the naive believe it when UA-camrs claim they spend hours and days creating a video because they just "love financial education". They're doing it to make themselves rich!
The fearmongering thing is so true. All I see from finance youtubers nowadays are FUD. I get so much anxiety from watching them that I stopped watching them for the most part. Makes long term investing a lot easier when you don't hear about the constant fear in the market every other day.
LOVE that this video was back with data! I’m so sick of all the fear mongering most of the financial UA-camrs do. They use to make good content that would help people but now all they are care about are the views. It’s going to bite them later when brands no longer want to collaborate with them.
Thank you for pointing out the clickbait using fear mongering. I was definitely caught up in the finance guru algorithm rabbit hole and starting to fall for it and making things a little more stressful than they already are. Appreciate you showing your own due diligence on each of these predictions and I will do the same from now on. You’ve got a new subscriber for your honesty and transparency which is hard to find these days.
I am trying to do something in the same area of finance UA-cam, but more like documenting my personal finance journey. It's something to keep me on track and maybe receive helpful comments. (Or hate because it is the internet.)
I put Kevin’s stock picks on my watchlist. One stock I specifically remember him pushing was SFT. The stock is currently down 95%+. Luckily I kept following the conservative path of investing in mutual and index funds
hmm, i feel this. blew a ton of cash, like, can't even say how much 'cause its embarrassing. but i kept my spirits up, hollered at this law firm (boyle and jasari in DC), and bam, few months down the line, all that dough's back with me - still shook by it. super stoked. They legit flipped my whole scene. Dont ever fall for "hot investment advices". Stay safe guys and always do your own research..
Calling someone out in a very biased way is not holding them accountable. Her analysis was not robust and would not stand up to any real scrutiny, it was either simplified to much to where the weight of evidence was overly diluted or she doesn't have the requisite ability to form a well informed view (I guess laziness could be a factor too?).
No one is going to teach y’all how to trade for free YALL have to put effort/time/money into it take a course there wil be ups and downs wins and loss but y’all can’t expect shit for free they put they time and effort YALL should too they give y’all the basics it’s up to u from tehre to learn and go on YALL expect them to educate y’all like y’all one of their students gtfoooo weak ass niggas y’all just expect free handouts that’s failure in life
I used to consume finance influencer content religiously. But switching to finance education really was the game changer for me. It's not about finding the flavor of the week, it's about finding a dependable system that you can use for years to come.
Honestly, Andrei was pretty helpful for me back around when he first started. Really got me started on my dividend journey, and watched a lot of Kevin because of how dedicated he was to keeping people up to date on government stuff during the pandemic, but once they started getting successful, they all started going looney toons in on stupid crap like crypto, and I pretty much stopped watching them.
If you have a background in finance or tech, you should take a second look at crypto. If you don’t, I don’t recommend you investing in something you don’t understand.
This is a great watch, as well as "The Money Guy(s)" The Plain Bagel and Erin Talks. Don't listen to Dave Ramsey unless you're in debt...and then when you're out of debt...stop. Finally, when your ready, start listening and subscribe to The Motley Fool.
Do YOuR oWn ReSeaRch in practice just means that people will look up a few of these videos or google some reddit posts. There is still no value in such "analysis".
Been watching these guys since 2017. I can agree that their content is not what it used to be. However, just like my brother here said. Don’t blindly follow. They definitely gave good information to those willing to use it. I’m now making almost 200k a yr, have almost 6 figures in investments, started my first company a yr ago, and own 2 properties. That’s thanks to the information that was provided by some of these individuals.
Let’s be fair. These influencers are no worst for you than Cramer, Yahoo Finance, Motley Fool or CNBC. If your stock picking strategy is from a public platform like these, you’re gonna get hosed most of the time.
@rene.s.s MEATY BLACK KOK WITH INCREDIBLE GIRTH RAMMED INTO AN OLD MAN'S BUTT WHOLE! HUGE KOK RIPS BUTT WHOLE WALLS AND COMPLETELY DEMOLISHES THE BUT HOLE! KOK EXITS BLOODIED. BALLSACK ALSO INCREDIBLY LARGE, AND ACTS AS A WRECKING BALL, FINISHING OFF THE BUTT
Old head here (45) so I really like the channels that explain everything financial. I started with Your Girl Rose and Whiteboard Finance. Then onto The Money Guy show, with some Diamond Nest Egg. But let's be honest all of them are not flashy but provide excellent content. I'm obsessed with Caleb Hammer right now. I think he's doing a great service to his audience! I'm even willing to over look his non stop commercial breaks and continuous shameless sponsor plugs!
In Australia we've seen our investments commission crack down on UA-camrs providing financial advice as non-financial advisors. It did unfortunately kill off a couple of good channels that simply analysed and discussed their own portfolios and buying choices, but they each admitted it was the price of doing business that something like this might be introduced and weren't willing to run the gauntlet against the new legislation.
I appreciate you shinning a light on the fear mongering aspect of these UA-cam channels. I've been subscribed for a while to a few but haven't watched any of their videos simply because of that. It's exhausting.
The problem with calling it "fear mongering" is that all data says stocks should crash. So it's basically all of the smart data driven people calling for a crash, which would really just be a return to normalcy. I've been told repeatedly I am "fear mongering" for repeating what I heard on earnings calls (and what got played down in the financial media)
@@KarsonGauleI've stopped watching, because I still have a hard understanding of not just the steps at buying crypto, but how to sell when you want to and have the money deposited instead of trading with other cryptocurrencies or whatever. Also, Andrei was talking about something in one video and wasted 10min of my time recommending something he wouldn't use. Like, if you're not going to use said product, why waste my time telling me about it, then tell us the reasons you aren't using the product? 🤦♀️ Also, I noticed how peeked Andrei was getting just prior to the talk of the value of the $1 degrading over time before crypto takes over. He recently bought a huge home and I bet he's wondering how he's going to financially upkeep his home in the future. Especially with the government creating their own form of crypto. Maybe he's concerned that all the crypto he's invested in may become obsolete or vice versa. 🤷♀️
Your points are 100% valid. I hate overly click-baited thumbnails and rarely watch them. In fact, I vowed not to watch any video with the UA-camr making goofy expressions. I’d much rather see a simple layout or something classy. There’s always another video I can find done by a trader who doesn’t bother with gimmicky clickbait content. The financial youtubers I follow are adults who just look normal and rarely indulge in hype. I’ve been trading practically every day since 2019. I’m mostly interested in learning from veteran traders who have a deep understanding of the markets and have been around for 20 years at least.
Im so happy I stumbled up on your channel. It’s like a wake up slap in the face for me. I’m from Thailand and making my income on the Thai’s standard.I get jealous that American have the best investment opportunity from all the giant corporates with bigger capital to withstand many many ups and downs! So I’m trying my best to invest in ETF from this side of the world by listening to American finance youtubers. Im Still in the maze but trying to learn and be very careful to trust! Thanks again. I just subscribed to your channel and liked! ❤
First time viewing your channel. I think the points you make are fair. I have definitely learned a lot from these UA-camrs in the beginning to help me get my feet wet in finance. However I have also learned during that time to not blindly follow them either. Finding a balance between their news/advice and your own research/due diligence is the best approach.
Yeah I have noticed this as well. I used to work for a financial advisor & so I don’t necessarily listen to their investing advice, which is why I like Caleb Hammer because he’s going over peoples finances & providing possible solutions for their debt issue. I personally prefer more of the personal finance videos over investing type videos b/c I can see how it can go bad quickly.
all Caleb's videos: tell person to reduce expenses, tell person to have an emergency fund, trash the person its like Gordon Ramsay for personal finance, if you seen one you've seen them all
@@litojonnyKinda. While many of them fall into that formula, there are also a bunch with a situation that isn't as black and white. Also, hearing the same advice over and over and over again can actually help it stick into your head more, especially when you speak to others who are in similar situations.
Thank you for saying this, I didn't even realize I have stopped watching those people because it makes me roll my eyes to see obvious fearmongering. I do NOT want to support that behavior because it isn't a healthy way of communicating. These social media sites are encouraging toxic behavior when they have the power to do the opposite. If these platforms focused on supporting healthier actions and suppressing toxic ones they have no clue how much they could impact the health of the world. It would be just as intense as how they are negatively impacting us because these tools are powerful. I hope someone starts that.
"I didn't even realize I have stopped watching these people"...SAME! It's like I slowly saw their "financial education" side of the content get outweighed by the "FEDS ARE GOING TO BURN US ALIVE"-type content, and subconsciously started skipping over their overall content...until I stopped watching them overall...lol
The "influencer" game is predominantly an entertainment game. It's about what gets the largest emotional reaction out of people. Not what helps them the most. There is a world of difference between those two things. Stay away if you value your sanity.
Do not bulk buy any stocks, do a SIP and buy any stock only in discounted price with good business fundamentals, which should have the current price 10% to 20% lower than the high price of that stock you are investing. Also make sure to keep the investment for atleast 5 years and more than 5 years is always gives good returns, due to yearly inflation and profits. Whenever a stock price goes up do not invest or upward average unless the there are good business fundamentals for a Bull run and only if the stock price is not more than 4% from its previous price. Also invest only when good stocks are at discounted price with good business fundamentals.
I’m a licensed financial planner. The amount of regulation in the industry would shock most people. It always blows my mind that the regulators allow a free for all on UA-cam. When it’s marketed as financial advice but hey read my disclaimer “this isn’t financial advice”… especially when the content goes beyond general advice on saving, into product recommendations.
The industry is pretty loosely regulated. For example, people can go around calling themselves “licensed financial planners” when that term means nothing. The standard is Certified Financial Planner. Maybe that’s what you meant, but that’s a heck of a thing to mess up. Same with “financial advisors” that are really just insurance brokers trying to make a quick buck.
@@jordand1554 That’s a certification that takes forever to get. It’s exceptionally odd that you’d confuse the name of a CFP. You don’t even need a CFP to work as a financial planner, so it’s even more bizarre that you’d use it as evidence the industry is well regulated.
Really solid content. I see this story happen a lot: Good intentions, followed by frustration, then compromise, then success, justification right on into “I got mine.” When capitalism eats its own.
If they were honest they would tell you to just buy index funds, and part bonds, and spend your time learning something productive. They would not tell you to stock pick or basically gambling.
I’ve been with the Trading Fraternity for 3 years. No BS, no pumping, and no rocket emojis. Just a place to learn, trade, and get the fastest news on the internet.
I usually don’t like to take too much to heart what any UA-camr says about anything, but of course, I fall for things at times. Great reminder to get really educated by true experts!
Hi Karson. If you stay true to your values, practice good financial ethics, then you’ll have another long term subscriber. I unsubscribed from the top financial UA-camrs at the end of last year. I’m glad I found channels like yours. I hope your channel spreads like those wildfires 🔥 in the thumbnails. I’m betting on that this is the age of good morals and ethics for rising UA-camrs like you. Thank you.
Thank you Karson. I watch a lot of Real Estate and finance videos, but I filter what I see and hear through my formal education, and 33 years of investment experience. I would say they augment what I already know, and fill in what I don't know. By the way, I really liked your video on "Renting Vs Buying A Home In 2023 (What You Need To Know)". Good stuff. Thank you.
Thank you for this! I have only quite recently fallen into Finance UA-cam after getting hooked on Caleb Hammer videos. His videos are really more entertainment than actual useful finance info, at least for someone who isn't teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. I'm looking for someone that I can actually LEARN from, so count me as a new subscriber!
I'm sorry I meet these people every day, they not only market genius 2021, but they are genius at everything and anytime. Strangely all of them struggle with money and have family issues. All of them.
Back in the 1920's everyone thought they were market geniuses as well. The more things change, the more they stay the same. As they say, a broken clock is right twice a day. Everyone thinks they can beat the market, until they don't beat the market. These are not unique times. Human nature has not changed, only technology has.
@@ivand0007 the pandemic parabolic bull run was brought on by the federal reserve's massive flooding of the system with cash. What we're seeing not is the result of the Fed reversing everything. This had never happened before. Unique times
This is the first video I have watched from you. Bravo 👏. I too was seeing the same shock thumbnails and my gut telling me this isn’t right. I’m smart enough to know the red flags so be careful. Long term ETFs with proven track record with strong companies is the smart way. Get rich quick schemes are a magnet for the low information folks.
I was going to say “Here we go, another person trying to make a name talking about other people.” But I enjoyed it and you make a ton of sense. I think there’s almost TOO much information available online it’s hard to be discerning. I started my investment journey reading the works of those like Peter Lynch, Howard Marks, William Green” which I believe has given me a pretty good filter for BS.
I've also been really tired of all the fear that is being spread on the internet when it comes to finances. I'm happy that you released this video and I think it's very made. I'm going to move forward subscribing to you because I feel like you'll be honest in the future (even if it doesn't get you all the money others are getting though fear and anxiety)! PS soooo tired of all the flame thumbnails lol
I remember the story of a stockbroker pushing a retail location to his customers. One of those customers, a woman that had been investing for years, visited a location in the chain. She then asked a couple people that were the target market for that store, and after doing both she contacted that stockbroker and shorted the stock.
I realized that the following steps are the bare minimum of investment: 1. Diverse investment (10+ stocks), have investment outside stock market 2. Invest only what you can live without. 3. Pay attention to PE ratio: buy under 20ish. Buy negative only in case if you can tell why will that be positive. Also never put over 10% in negative. 4. Investment is mostly better be boring: big tech, big oil, big food chain, cars. All the biggest. 5. Do your own research always. 6. Check the balances of the company. 7. Realize the fact, if you buy on hype, you might be late. You can make a good money on it, but it is pure gamble.
Isn't it more useful to consider the PE ratio in relation to the average pe ratio within said stock instead of using it as some absolute measure? But yeah some stocks are truly overvalued.
@@Laubotje there is a truth in that, some stocks are overvalued at 30 PE, some of them are undervalued at 30. However I don't like to buy generally over 25. Only if there is a strong hint why will that stock worth a lot more later.
This advice will under perform a simple SP500 ETF. PE is a very VERY basic way of valuation. Free cashflow yield is better. But discounted cashflow is best for most companies. Terry smith (fund smith shareholder annual presentations UA-cam) Charlie Tian (invest like a guru book) good places to start
I'm a 25 year Realtor, in BC Canada- our conduct is predicated on one main question in anything we do or say... Who is your fiduciary? If you're not acting on behalf of your fiduciary's interest and you're found out later to have acted in your own interest, you're in trouble. It's not perfect but it's something. Thanks for this... good consolidation of ideas surrounding this space. I needed this.
I'm so glad to see others are finally catching onto this, I found these guys when I was first trying to learn about the finance/investing space, and low and behold, their videos were the ones that showed up first, so naturally I click & start binge watching as I don't know any better, really hindered my growth for a good while. I made my own video ranking finance UA-cam channels & I flamed these guys & had them in F tier, hopefully more people realise this, stop watching them & they fade into obscurity
Andrei and Graham inspired me to save/invest a majority of my income starting in 2019. I've learned a lot of financial fundamentals from various finance youtubers. Nowadays, I just tune in to get a sense of the current market sentiment. In the end, it's always the same advice. Majority of your wealth in stable growing assests. A small % in your own personal speculation plays or endavors that you're willing to lose. Have a sustainable budget that can support the above while living your desired lifestyle. I collected a small amount of silver this year for fun. Now the precious metal youtube space is interesting. Silver is either a "personal savings and hedge against fiat currency" or "its going to 1000x, the government is going to take it all, you need it for apocalyptic barter system, and the market is rigged." They'll claim it's all true so buy more silver. Idk it's a bit much, i do just like having pretty silver coins though.
Good to see a young person express how many poor guides there are for finance not just on UA-cam but also through the world. Do be careful of anyone not a licensed fiduciary in the US.
Any finance professional knows that it’s impossible to predict the price movement of a speculative asset class. Anyone who claims to know where the price is going is trying to sell you something (courses, affiliate links, etc). These people are not actually getting rich from their own advice. They’re getting rich from selling you stuff while you lose your money following their advice.
One of the biggest issues with influencers and youtube in general is the doom feeds they put out to satisfy the algorithm. All of them post apocalyptic takes on everything, without giving any solutions. That just feeds a sense of helplessness and promotes a victim mentality which encourages inaction to improve your financial situation. Love watching Caleb Hammer where he actually tries to help people and give them hard advise with the hope if actually helping people. Theres always hope, and if you give up and wait for some deus ex machina to swoop down and save you, you will stay in whatever trouble your in.
When I first started with investing I wanted to become more knowledgeable, so I could invest in individual stocks instead of index funds. Years after learning I am back to investing in index funds because I learned it’s not possible to pick stocks and to beat the market consistently. It’s better to just plow as much money as you can into index funds. It’s less work and hassle to just do that.
You can always wait until there is a dip/crash in the market to buy. I have found that works, If I buy the dip, i get better results than if I buy something that is high. The S&P and other indexes have ups and downs and the downs are a good place to buy. Support and resistance lines and bollinger bands are good risk indicators, not predictors, but they indicate risk and when there are good entry points
Well I have a 250% p&l% that says you can beat it 👌 I also created my OWN index fund based on selecting stocks i felt had the best potential to grow out of the 506 stocks in the s&p500. I chose 8 that im actively tracking because investing in 500+ stocks is DOO-DOO 💩
It is so refreshing hearing someone say this. I work in the financial industry and I have seen people lose money from taking these "finfluencer's" advice. It is impossible to calm them down too after hearing stuff like "market crash immanent" "capitalism over by XX/XX/XXXX". It is nauseating how bad some people got hurt because if these finflencers, and absolutory nothing will happen as a result.
I have watched Graham's and especially Andrei's content quite a bit, but you have encouraged me to be even more careful about investing than I already was. I never invest into individual stocks and crypto, but I will pay close attention to the investment funds I have invested in based on these influencers' advice. Can't trust anyone nowadays. Thanks for making this video and please don't become like them once you achieve the same success.
You feel like the most human finance UA-camr out there. Specifically for Graham Stephan, your words placed my feelings just the right way. Recently he has certainly shifted his content over to current-day finance events, which provide little useful information compared to his older videos delve into mindset or general self-improvement. Keep up the work, and I'd certainly be interested in talking or watching a video on your opinions on mindset sometime in the future!
I appreciate your honesty! Most people know and understand the majority of videos on UA-cam have clickbait titles, and it's all about the influencer making a dollar. BTW, I just subscribed to your channel.
No one is going to teach y’all how to trade for free YALL have to put effort/time/money into it take a course there wil be ups and downs wins and loss but y’all can’t expect shit for free they put they time and effort YALL should too they give y’all the basics it’s up to u from tehre to learn and go on YALL expect them to educate y’all like y’all one of their students gtfoooo weak ass niggas y’all just expect free handouts that’s failure in life
As someone who does not live in US The financial influencers are very useful as long as you form your own opinions and do your own due diligence. And you need to be sharp enough to see facts from fiction. The great benefit is that there's often live material to follow and react to market or company events in time. I can't just tune in to market news about US on my tv. Doesn't exist. Right now Powels actions and words drive the global market, like it or not. When you read about events in headlines its already too late. Depends of course how actively you invest
Itd be great if you would have included one of your own stock pick videos (the worst one among all) and also compared to the rest. You said the others also have good ones, so it’d havee been great to see your failures too. Your point would have been even stronger and would have shown you humble and more human too. Anyone can make a mistake. 😊
I used to watch Graham Stephens. But since I'm in Germany I wanted to search for a German finance UA-camr and damn I'm glad I did that. There are great German finance UA-camrs who are very transparent and explain very well why they invest in what they do. And basically all of them just recommend the MSCI world. So I just invest most of my money there and I read a lot about how to invest and that is basically the solid/best choice.
Whew! This was a spicy video but it needed to be said. I used to follow literally all of these guys as I too started getting more interested in growing my wealth without putting in more hours at my job and I don’t follow a single one anymore for the reasons you stated. Thankfully, I never jumped at anything. I like to take information and use it as a starting point for my own research (because I have trust issues 😂) and I can’t even imagine how much money I saved because of it. Great video! 🔥🔥🔥(for the flames in the CB videos 😂😂)
Excellent video. I hope it comes up in the algorithm for more people. I recently found Graham and binged a ton of his content, hence finding your video, and picked up on that very quickly. While I have learned a lot (it piggybacked off working a year at NFCU and wanting to grow my knowledge base further), I am wary of the influencer. At the end of the day, influencers are in the business of selling. I don’t jump on codes, trading advice or doomsday reporting. It’s all clickbait to me, and I’ll research further to paint a clear picture of the world. Thanks again! I made sure to like and smash that subscribe button haha
Excellent content! Stay honest and don’t allow greed to compromise your integrity like it has with other UA-camrs. Truth will prevail! Thank you for making this video.
1. Brian Kim is clean and one of the best finance channels on UA-cam 2. Don’t blindly value the investing of others (even your own CFP). YOU are responsible for YOUR money. If you lose, ask why, research, learn, and improve.
I have stayed away from finance content on UA-cam because I cannot take all the clickbait, predictions, news, and get-rich schemes, all while calling it personal finance. There is more to personal finance than investing. Thanks for your take this summed things up perfectly.
This is so true, I lost 60 thousand dollars because I was blindy following the influencers lead. Then when had burned trough my savings I sold my house i order to make a final good run at the stock market. Now I live in a rent apartment with almost no money left to invest. Be careful about taking on advice from others.
I just hope that big channels don't just use their audience to spike stocks. They can buy stock themselves, tell their audience to buy, and sell when the audience does (which drives up the price they can sell for). Maybe a good investment long term, but probably a good investment in the short term if you can convince everyone to buy. Looks good for them too to invest their own money as they suggested. They can just sell way before the rest of their audience.
Great video backed up with proof, exposing financial UA-camrs that are giving out bad advice, in order to get clicks and money. We need more videos like this exposing UA-camrs like this. Keep it up.
Anyone recommending specific stocks can be safely ignored. Finance YT is largely rubbish and this video is spot on, good work to the creator. A good exception is James Shack, in my opinion a high quality channel, who also by the way never tips any stocks ever.
Plain Bagle is one of the best UA-cam channels. The content is educational and no BS is involved. Not sponsored by the chancel, just like to support an honest fellow Canadian 🇨🇦
Yeah, he is great... You could tell a massive difference in how he communicates including his body language compared to all the grifters who try to hype-up everything they say. The grifters speak like politicians and salesman, typically.
This take is 100% fire! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 So good to see people acknowledging that channels that might have started off giving perfectly reasonable advice, just don't anymore!
I think this a great video with good points but the only problem I have is that all the stocks that you just mention are down as well as the rest of the market besides the good past few days we had. I said this video was probably better upload after all the craziness on the market was gone. But no matter what NEVER take the advice from a “finance” UA-camr as a final decision , even if is a good advice just listen to it and always make your own research😊
I intentioally avoid clicking click-baits. Also whenever title says something like "The one thing that "something" " instead of naming that one thing, I never open. Also whenever thumbnail has a face with an overly strong expression, fire in eyes or any other gimmick, I avoid opening them in purpose. I think they are meant to attract people who watch TV and especially reality TV.
Agreed. Always do your due diligence on every recommendation. However, there are influencers - Joseph Hogue and Bob Sharpe to name two - who have CFA backgrounds and make pretty solid recommendations on stocks, ETFs, etc. I dont take their word as gospel and invest in the millions like they do, but it puts you on the right path when it comes to where to invest first. Great video. Cheers.
Many of those fake financial guru's were once on my subscribe list and 5 yrs ago the moment I saw there scams I unsubscribe them all. Fast forward in 2024 I have none of them on my subscription list including Karson Gaule. BOOOOM 💥
As a victim of of stock Moe’s UA-cam recommendations .. I agree with you 100%.. I partly bailed out early on some of his stocks but also got hit badly on some of his other recommendations. Thank you for this video.
THANK YOU!!!!! You are correct. I have been looking to educate myself on finance as I enter my retirement years. I seriously don’t want to lose my money so someone else can get more clicks.
Just wait until 2028 or 2032 *their will be a market crash* then buy up great stocks at a cheap price and go live in Thailand or south/central America for a year or two while your making money in the markets ;) thats the simplest way to invest.
The last straw for me was the countdown to China’s economic collapse with the number of days left on the thumbnail. Several major financial youtubers were regurgitating clickbait of a prediction so I unsubscribed to everyone who posted it.
I completely agree with everything you say. I actually stopped watching many of the youtube finance channels for the very reason you stated. I was appalled at the FTX disaster, fortunately not impacted by it. Chastized Meet Kevin and suggeted he help his audience by using the revenue he generated by promoting FTX to help off set his fans losses.
TLDR: finance youtube is okay in their first 2-3 videos (ex: explaining compound interest, using debt, proper financing, psychology of man & income etc.) but after that, it's just courses, grindset and whatever being peddled
The Plain Bagel is still great, very informative and honest. He never overhypes stuff, he just gives you the pros and cons of different strategies or assets and makes it clear that you need to decide for yourself if it's right for your goals.
Thank you.. Thank you.. Thank you! I sadly followed these scammers for a period of time until my trading account shrank to almost nothing. When it comes to investing in the stock market: "No one knows nothing"!
I think it's also important to understand that everyone has a different financial situation. Taking financial advice from a course or a UA-camr when they have a drastically different financial situation from you is very risky. It's fine if you want to incorporate some of what they said, but without any self-reflection on your current situation, risk tolerance, and financial goals, it is a fast way to being burned.
I think the key is to learn to critical think for yourself and stay skeptical with any advice, especially from the wife. No one has your best interest at heart. The more you have to lose, the more caution you should take.
As a retired finance professional, I have to give a hat-tip to this video! What a wonderful introduction for the average person on how much to believe (very little!) and act on (almost never!) most of the popular UA-cam Finance "influencers!" Bravo!
But at some point he sacrificed quality for quantity.
its starting going downhill in 2019/20,but 2017 graham was cool.
Graham is still great. I've yet to hear him tell anyone to do something that wasn't in their best interest.

Being an actual financial adviser myself, I get livid when I see people disclaim their BS as 'not financial advice' on social media when, in fact, they are 100% providing financial advice.
Yes something needs to be done about this. These financial gurus are also earning money from UA-cam giving illegal advice too
So so true

If you invest based on the opinion of another with no research you deserve to lose your money.
they 100% throw that phrase around because for an ego boost. knew many of the finance wannabe bros at my uni. they would all recycle the same spiel about the s&p 500, roth iras, and interest rates as if they were giving groundbreaking news. as if their recycled "advice" was not located on the first page of google. but they would look so proud of themselves, so smart and legit whenever they'd hit you with their disclaimer line 🤬

I can’t watch him either anymore -- he’s got a music degree and has the balls to be giving financial advice (while saying he isn’t, but he IS) to other people. Like great so glad all these unqualified folks can just give advice Willy nilly~

I lost 5-10k by following Kevin's stock picks, and then not following his selling everything move. One of the hardest life lessons to learn.
he was very right when he said to sell everything in january and i didnt listen to him either
Did the same. Put a bunch into his picks and then watched them collapse. DTD and VTV has been very stable for me so those are my default picks for cash unless I have money I'm willing to risk.
This is always the best best lesson for you , and from this lesson you will make better choices and better investments. 👌 This is the Way
That's your fault. I watched some of his vids and said myself, this guy is a grifter. They're not real financial advisors.
Always reading these crazy headlines from news outlets that played into the same click-bait, just to end up giving the same old and vague advise "diversify" "have an emergency fund." I got really far away from financial youtube because of him
100% relate to this about the vidoes just being news headlines and clickbiat nonsense and repeated basic info
I listened to him a few times but quickly saw the information was generic and useless.
Slow learner? He condensed the information already available and provides it in an interesting format.
This is not his problem

DAVE RAMSEY BABY STEPS…LIFE CHANGER!!! oddly enough I discovered him after George Kamel was on Grahams podcast, the irony

Well that’s depressing
This is the most perfect comment I’ve seen.
I completely agree, especially the statement that society values individuals based on the amount of wealth they obtained and completely ignores their methods of achieving it. The reality is those respective methods are usually highly unethical/immoral.
the grift is getting absolutely out of control and making the internet a horrible place to be nowadays. there was never a better time to go and touch some grass.
Only the naive believe it when UA-camrs claim they spend hours and days creating a video because they just "love financial education". They're doing it to make themselves rich!
How are they grifting? Yeah they aren’t perfect but still provide lots of valuable information.
Good that you're holding these UA-camrs accountable. Somebody needs to do the same for Wall Street analysts.
She's corny... You Guys are too impatient. Had you just continued to buy high quality ETFs you would've been just fine. What did you do instead?

In Australia we've seen our investments commission crack down on UA-camrs providing financial advice as non-financial advisors. It did unfortunately kill off a couple of good channels that simply analysed and discussed their own portfolios and buying choices, but they each admitted it was the price of doing business that something like this might be introduced and weren't willing to run the gauntlet against the new legislation.
I appreciate you shinning a light on the fear mongering aspect of these UA-cam channels. I've been subscribed for a while to a few but haven't watched any of their videos simply because of that. It's exhausting.

I realized that the following steps are the bare minimum of investment:
1. Diverse investment (10+ stocks), have investment outside stock market
If you buy on hype you are late/the rug pull
Isn't it more useful to consider the PE ratio in relation to the average pe ratio within said stock instead of using it as some absolute measure? But yeah some stocks are truly overvalued.
@@Laubotje there is a truth in that, some stocks are overvalued at 30 PE, some of them are undervalued at 30. However I don't like to buy generally over 25. Only if there is a strong hint why will that stock worth a lot more later.
Yeah you can do all that, and you are still going to lose to index funds in the long run.
Home of The Plain Bagel (great financial youtub show)
I'm so glad to see others are finally catching onto this, I found these guys when I was first trying to learn about the finance/investing space, and low and behold, their videos were the ones that showed up first, so naturally I click & start binge watching as I don't know any better, really hindered my growth for a good while.
And be even more careful with licensed fiduciaries.
Well I have a 250% p&l% that says you can beat it 👌
I also created my OWN index fund based on selecting stocks i felt had the best potential to grow out of the 506 stocks in the s&p500.
U subscribes to a bum
MSCI World and Vanguard S&P 500
I LOVE how you call yourself out and pull the curtain back and I really appreciate your honesty. Top tier content 👌
Excellent content! Stay honest and don’t allow greed to compromise your integrity like it has with other UA-camrs. Truth will prevail! Thank you for making this video.
As a financial channel it is frustrating for me have to compete with all the click bait and not get the views and watch time. I totally get it.
1. Brian Kim is clean and one of the best finance channels on UA-cam
2. Don’t blindly value the investing of others (even your own CFP). YOU are responsible for YOUR money. If you lose, ask why, research, learn, and improve.
Brian kim is from clearvalue tax?
I have stayed away from finance content on UA-cam because I cannot take all the clickbait, predictions, news, and get-rich schemes, all while calling it personal finance. There is more to personal finance than investing. Thanks for your take this summed things up perfectly.
This is so true, I lost 60 thousand dollars because I was blindy following the influencers lead. Then when had burned trough my savings I sold my house i order to make a final good run at the stock market. Now I live in a rent apartment with almost no money left to invest. Be careful about taking on advice from others.
Cryptozoo?
That is kind of your own fault not going to lie.
I am hoping you are a troll, if not stick to index funds and a buy and hold strategy
No matter what
You watch, never substitute someone else’s thoughts for your own- in other words always do you homework!!
I’m sure all those influencers did their own homework. Homework doesn’t mean you won’t lose.
A good exception is James Shack, in my opinion a high quality channel, who also by the way never tips any stocks ever.
biggest regret of my life... having faith in these clowns... lost so much money...
So good to see people acknowledging that channels that might have started off giving perfectly reasonable advice, just don't anymore!
Thank You, for the sober common sense reminders. It's good to see there are normal people UA-camrs out there🙏☺👍👍
I think this a great video with good points but the only problem I have is that all the stocks that you just mention are down as well as the rest of the market besides the good past few days we had. I said this video was probably better upload after all the craziness on the market was gone. But no matter what NEVER take the advice from a “finance” UA-camr as a final decision , even if is a good advice just listen to it and always make your own research😊
I rarely comment on videos, I just wanted to pop in and say this was REALLY well done and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Refreshing seeing someone being very honest!
Cheers.
excellent video, i miss those days when youtube influencers gave us good advice. Now it's all entertainment and money for them.
Many of those fake financial guru's were once on my subscribe list and 5 yrs ago the moment I saw there scams I unsubscribe them all. Fast forward in 2024 I have none of them on my subscription list including Karson Gaule. BOOOOM 💥
Thank you for breaking this down. Very clearly told.
As a victim of of stock Moe’s UA-cam recommendations .. I agree with you 100%.. I partly bailed out early on some of his stocks but also got hit badly on some of his other recommendations. Thank you for this video.
Moe pumped for profit
This has to be one of the most genuine videos in this industry ! THANK YOU!!
Thank you.. Thank you..
You picked her. 😂
Lovely presentation, strong work 👍
Thank you!
As a retired finance professional, I have to give a hat-tip to this video! What a wonderful introduction for the average person on how much to believe (very little!) and act on (almost never!) most of the popular UA-cam Finance "influencers!" Bravo!
