How I learned CNC machinning
- 2 years ago we bought a CNC machine, a Syil X5, the main reason to learn how to make parts and have the ability to make prototypes and small series. The machine has covered their goal, I am looking for the next step, but super happy to put myself in the fire and learn this trade because I absolute love it now.

What do you think about learning by making?
Definitely my preferred method of learning new skills!
Learning by making is great... but since this set up can't be too inexpensive, I am inclined to want to find out more about how to get started with something like this first. This video definately helps.
If I can ask, what would you estimate it cost you to buy this machine, have it delivered, get basic tools to get started milling basic joints and any extra expenditures for computer stuff before you could start actually machining parts? It appears that this machine's governing computer component is attached, yes? Does it come with the machine or do you purchase it separately? Do you do the preparation programming set up on your lap top computer and transfer the data or some other method to program the CNC machine?
I don't see myself going into the armature or winder manufacturing business like you have, but I do like making things myself. I might like to invest in a set-up that would allow me to make small quantities of parts for myself. Perhaps some thing like dinosaur tails, octopus like tentacles or similarly armatured connstructions. As you know there are a lot of similar but varied sized joints in those type of armatures... from large to small.
That's the kind of craziness that drives the world forward haha! Thanks for daring!
I am not alone, jaja
Wow fantastic work 👌
Such a great video! I'm an armaturist, but I don't make the joints myself. This is a great video to educate peeps on how joints are made...I'll probably reference it for my students :)
It is kind a hiden art to make joints. Haven't seen much videos out there of people machining joints, so yes I hope students can benefit of them.
This was very fascinating and inspiring, thank you! You seem like such a wholesome soul, hope your business continues to flourish, you're a beast for learning new things and taking risks, wish you all well, always!
As always Ed, Thanks for sharing, we greatly appreciate it.
I admire your many talents Edu, and you keep adding to them.
I saw this CNC machine on Sexy Cyborg but she was just learning how to use it. I’m happy for you and wish you well. 🤩👍👍
I love your honesty and creativity.
May yo;u be prosperous.
Greetings and a really excellent 2022 to you and your family.
Thanks, wish you a great 2022
Any chance to share the price for X5 ? Ballpark / +- would be great ..
You can just go to syil website and get an exact price but it is around 10k
That was great! Great machining montage, and fun to hear about your experience. Thanks for posting. I've been considering some sort of CNC and was interested in the Syil X5. I see you are using a wine rack style tool holder. Do you have issues with coolant/chips sticking to the tapers on the other tools in the rack as you machine? I do a small amount of stop motion in my build videos and your channel has been very helpful in that. Thank you!
Hi, the tools there is not the best but it was what I could afford. I am not having much issues, some chips got there when I machine a lot of material but the air on the tool change blows them. I would be more concern with stainless, and then I am more careful about it.
@@edupuertasfruns Thanks for getting back to me! Totally makes sense. I hadn't thought about the air from the tool changer helping clean them off some. I think the Datron Neo uses some little shied that the active tool can tip down to protect the other tools and then tip back for the next change. Talk about unaffordable machines! Still if you were having trouble keeping the tapers clean one could probably hack up a shield like that. Thanks again for the response!
Have you decided on which machine you want next? Ben
Not the exact one, but next must be a cnc lathe
Merci
Awesome, can't wait to see what kind of things you make. Would love to see some cnc puppets.
WOW!!!!!!!!
Love it! I wish i can aford it too!!👍😀 Thanks for sharing!
Can you give some measurements of the actual precision of the spindle, the linear bearings and the accuracy of the positioning system? I'm really interested in getting one too, but it seems suspicious the company doesn't give any tolerance-measurements on their website.
@Nerdly has a video reviewing the machine with those details
Impressive. ✔
Hola 😀
Super cool investment - congrats! :-)
Congratulations! That's exciting! We got a small one last year. Your work is inspiring.
Wich one? Are you enjoying it?
I'm surprised how affordable these machines have become. If you can afford a used car, you can afford this CNC machine.
Yes it is amazing, and very convenient to learn, now I feel I can go with something bigger
can u make the armature out of wood
Hello! Thanks for all of your content. Love your channel. Have been wanting to place an order for a K1, K2 and K3 and they've been 'sold out' for over a year now. Are you strictly accepting orders only for custom armatures?
Wow you have really done well.👍💪
Peter, big part of what I've done is thanks to your videos🙌, still feeling like a beginner
@@edupuertasfruns Really, that makes all the work making videos worth it. Thanks!

How was it with all that snow?
Great video as always
