He was a man who made you feel like you knew him personally. He was my favorite part of Rudolph. The intro with him singing and that electric razor gave me goosebumps. Just such a crucial part of my childhood. I’m so glad you showed this. Thank you! I’m 8 again!!❤
This video popped up and I watched carefully for the graves of my Great Grandparents. My grandma went to school with Burl Ives and was the same age. My grandma told me that his family was very poor and would not accept charity. Instead my grandma's family would visit the Ives after church and bring food and play music. My great grandpa was a very good fiddle player according to her and they played and sang together. My great grandparents are buried in the same cemetery as Burl in Hunt City. I used to visit that cemetery with my mom and grandma every Memorial Day weekend. Their names are Ludlow and Minnie Shacklee. My grandma died the year before he did and is buried in nearby Olmey and I have not been back there to see his grave.
Holly Jolly Christmas was my favorite of his song. I liked some of his folk songs also. And when he did Rudolph the red nose reindeer. I didn't know he played on that show I forgot.
I’ve been there twice I like Burl Ives. I don’t live very far from there. Holly Jolly Christmas is my favorite song. Love Rudolph where he played Sam the snowman. Thanks for the great video! 👍👍
That was interesting ! I only knew Burl Ives from Rudolph. He had a very long and illustrious career. I always think of Burl Ives as the snowman riding the norelco razor thru the snow. Thank you for sharing !
Love Burl Ives. Everytime I hear him sing it brings me back to when I was a little kid. So many memories when he sang Christmas 🎁 songs and being a part of Rudolph the Red-Nosed reindeer. Thank you Burl. God bless ❤
I absolutely love Burl Ives. He was a huge character in the good old Christmas movies. Loved when he sang Silver and Gold. Thank you my friend. Much appreciated.😊 🕊️🙏❤️ What a beautiful headstone.
I’m new to your videos and burl Ives is from my home in jasper county Illinois I try to make it out to his grave at least once a year I can’t believe that I just started watching your videos and three days ago you were in my home county thank you for your videos
Loved this. ❤ I'll be 63 in January and for me, Burl Ives will always be 'Mr. Classic Christmas', remembering him as the voice of all of those Christmas shows that I grew up with and still watch to this day. He's a legend. ❤
One More Time Billy Brown!! You'll Find This Song On You Tube. Silver & Gold, Holly Jolly Christmas!! I still Love him, & his music!! On the flip side of One More Time Billy Brown Is Tied Down Here at Home!! Another Classic!! Carol Riley, Pittsburgh, Pa.❤❤❤❤
I was just thinking of him today!! Thanks for taking us along to visit his grave and pay respects to him. He is a part of all our childhoods! Where is Mrs. Backroads? I hope she will still be on some of the videos. She always has good info to add! Hope ya'll had a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks for the great video. I love his music but didn’t know that much about his life. Love anything he did related to Christmas. He sang the Ugly Bug Ball in Summer Magic as well.
He was great in everything . McMasters was a great film , some great tunes along with pearly shells an little bitty tear is mary ann regrets , the long black veil an one of my fav comedy like songs 'goober peas ' .
My memories of him of course include watching Rudolph! I like all the songs but my favorite from Rudolph is Silver and Gold! I'm also a Little House on the Prairie fan but I don't recall seeing that episode right now. I'll have to go back and watch it! Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
What a great thing you are doing. Yes I am a big Burl Ives fan. I even keep Rudolph the red nosed Reindeer in recording. I usually keep it that way all year. My favorite song of his was the one about the big snow man. I don't remember the name of it. But thank you for what you do.
Awesome! I appreciate you sharing his story! I truly loved him as Sam the Snowman ☃️ singing "A Holly Jolly Christmas" & I continue to keeping the tradition of watching the holiday animated classic - Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer. 🦌 Fun Fact --> Most probably don't know this, but he also appeared in the movie "Summer Magic" by Walt Disney. 😊
This looks like the kind of humble, country cemetery Burl Ives would be buried in, next to a humble country church on an old prairie field---just like the one my grandpa was buried in Oklahoma
I saw your piece on Burl Ives and I was disappointed to say these. In Newton, Illinois there is a life size statue of Burl Ives at the corner of Route 130 and Route 33. The library has a museum of hundreds of things of his life copies of his sheet music. That is what you should add to his story of his full wonderful life.
Hope you and your wife had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I didn’t get around too good. I broke my pinky toe so I’ve been in a medical boot and now Wednesday morning. I go in the hospital for surgery for something else.
When I was younger I broke my pinkie toe on my left foot. It was painful and that’s the toe that keeps you upright. Best of luck and hoping for a quick recovery.
I read somewhere that if it wasn't for Owen Bradley and the Decca label, his singing career was all but dead. I also read that he certainly did not like kids which shocked the hell out of me but it is what it is I guess??
Backroads always says we. I be wondering if Ms Backroads is filming quietly while Mr. Backroads himself is talking? 🤔 Or is Mr. Backroads is talking about him and us as the audience?
One of my all time favorite singers. Rip. 🪦
Silver and Gold!!! 55 Years old here! Grew up loving his music. Silver and Gold is my all time favorite!

I will be saying some prayers for you.
Ouch! As much as I stomped my toe it is a wonder I didn’t break my toes plenty of times with these size 12 feet.
I hope you heel up good and well 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
When I was younger I broke my pinkie toe on my left foot. It was painful and that’s the toe that keeps you upright. Best of luck and hoping for a quick recovery.
@ they got me in a walking boot and then tomorrow morning Wednesday I go into surgery for something else

It’s a lot of all the above. We all wear many hats in this UA-cam world. She is the mortar that hold everything together.
@ ok
Why are there no flowers in this cemetery?
Silver and gold.
