My family is hurting. Be kind, we love the nature and we understand the danger and will always respect and love the sea. Thank you for being kind. He was a sweet soul and kind to all.
So sorry for your loss 😥

I used to be totally ignorant in my younger years about swimming in the Pacific ocean. After all, I'm originally from the great lakes. So swimming out to sea was something I did all the time. Until one day in chest high water I felt something bump into my leg. Still not knowing what it was, I stayed in the water and boom, another bump into my leg and looked down and a shark was clearly visible but not biting me. I was told by the native Californians that the shark was bumping me to see if I was food. I never got in water past my knee depths ever again.
Living in fear. Sad

I have a feeling that Sharks take a lot more people than is officially recognized.
They do, they don’t include “provoked attacks” in statistics. This always in includes cast aways , people that are stranded after boat or plane crashes. Also, “provoked attack” means you accidentally bumping a shark, not maliciously antagonizing it by hurting it. It also can’t include the people that are eaten that are never reported
We eat more sharks than they eat humans. Maybe they're fighting back for all the animals poached and killed to satisfy human desire for shark fin soup.
This is tragic. That poor man.
God bless the lady who put her life at risk to try and save him.
My condolences to his family and friends 🥺❤ I'm sorry for your loss.

I surf here in SoCal and sometimes see sharks but they never bother us. Scary to know there is always a chance of becoming shark food. My sympathies to the family.
If it's a bull shark, tiger sharkor great white humans are always on the menu. That doesn't mean they will attack every human they see, it just means if they are hungry and see you nearby they will try to eat you.

So sad but no surprise. When we go in the ocean we are always taking a risk.
WE SHOULD CLOSE BEACHES, ONE LIFE TAKEN IS TOO MUCH. ALWAYS REMEMBER TO LIFE-JACKET UP, EVEN WHEN NOT IN WATER PEOPLE
@@lemattbox We should close the Earth. One death is too many
Exactly. I never get the "be careful" tidbits of advice. There are two choices: stay out of the water or go in and accept the risk. Not gonna tell anybody which is right or wrong; that's a personal choice. But if you go in, you are now in the food chain.
@Tyrone
Most shark attacks happen in under 3 feet of water
@Tyrone
I misinformed you, anyway. My fault. Apparently, 6 feet of water is where most attacks happen . 0-5 is second. I personally don’t get in past my knees. I was once at an aquarium and saw a shark try to attack my brother through the glass lol they can have the water
It’s crazy I just went on google earth to see morro bay and the first beach view picture I see a bloody seal that’s how you know those sharks are lurking 🦈
There's ALWAYS the risk of getting bitten when we go in the ocean/gulf. We're going into their house. Sorry for the victim's family
Yeah, I think a lot of TV shows and documentaries continue to mislead people. The ones where the people say "it was a case a mistaken identity" or the shark only attacked because it thought it was attacking a seal/turtle or whatever.
Fact is humans are on the menu for bull sharks, great whites, tiger sharks and many others. It doesn't mean they will attack and kill any human they see, it means if they are hungry and there is no better food nearby they will try to eat you.
@@Bitchslapper316 Finally someone says it. Sharks don’t normally eat people because people aren’t normally in the water where they hunt. If you’re in the water with a shark you’re a potential food source.
You are at the mercy of the sea and it's inhabitants when in or on the water. Horrible way to go
My condolences to his family and loved ones, Very sad.
everyone always acts surprised when people venture into the wild and there's animals that are hungry
Sharks don't eat people, dolt. They use their mouth to investigate things... and their razor sharp teeth just cut on contact.
@@johannderjager4146 true. But they are still hungry.
@@johannderjager4146 sharks most certainly do eat people. Do some research.
@@johannderjager4146 sharks eat people. Human remains have been found in shark digestive tracts before. We’re not aquatic so we’re not a main food source, but don’t think for a second a random shark won’t eat you given the opportunity. Sharks will also eats pigs, cows, horses, etc. when they fall in the water. The whole“sharks spitting humans out after a test bite” is false. Sharks wait for things to bleed to death before consuming, just like many other predators will.

I remember back in 2003, that a lady was killed in Morro Bay by a Great White Shark, because she went swimming with a group of Sea-Lions and was mistaken for one of them by the Shark.
Pretty sure the shark didn’t “mistake” her. Lmao. It’s trying to eat the slowest of the bunch. And that would be her!
@@newagain9964 Whether it mistook her or not, it’s just plain simple thinking, that you do not go swimming in a beach (especially in California or Florida waters) with a group of one of the oceans Apex predator’s prey.
Avila not Morro
Dunno why people always say, it was a mistake, when a human is attacked by a predator. Is there some kind of animal-bible, which doesnt allow them to go after humans? They rip you apart and eat you, if they are hungry, and would not regret it later and say, omg, what a mistake, it was a human.

I quit going in the ocean after watching Jaws when it first came out in 1975. That's about 46 years. I'm still shark-bite-free to this very day.
I watched all the Jaws movies. Still go into the water. Still shark bite free
Being from NJ Jaws scared me for a while too,but i love the ocean too much to let it affect me.Chances are slim you get bit and just beware of your surroundings.Never swim where the seals are.
Jaws scared me out of the water too. I've lived a couple miles from the beach for 35 years.
Jaws terrorized me. Don't go into the ocean to this day. Only pools.. 😷
Very sad for the family and friends.
Unfortunately when you go into the ocean you become part of the aquatic community and food chain. Boogie boarders are especially attractive to sharks because of the slashing of kicking and it comes off as injured prey.
Especially a location where everyone is dressed for Alaska.
Sincere condolences 🙏🏽
Used to surf all along this coast. One time I went out not really to Maverick's but more outskirts of Pillar Point Harbor (HMB) I was just relaxing and enjoying sitting out there. I got THAT (sharky) feeling and about the time I thought I was just creeping myself out... because I was alone. It looked like a 5 foot wide x 15 foot kelp bed went under me. I thought well that's weird... then I noticed this kelp beds tail swish sideways and it moved the large "kelp bed" sharply in another direction. I (as calmly as possible) paddled back in. Once on shore it hit, the massive ringing in the ears, the pounding heartbeat in the neck. I had a tension headache for days from that adrenaline rush.
Y’all keep thinking it’s a game.
@@newagain9964 I "used" to... after that incident, I realized that surfers dress up in seal costumes and wonder why they get bit.

This is so sad. Sorry for your loss. My brother has been surfing there for 35 years and has been bumped many times. He says there are a lot of nursing sharks near the rock, but a great white? I gotta give these boogie boarders and surfers a TON of credit. It takes real guts to go in the water when you know white sharks are around. Even though we know they don't "prefer" humans and are looking for seals, every once in a while, they make an "honest" mistake and YOU become lunch. The odds are long that it will be you on the menu, but it has to be on your mind that one day you could be 🤔

Shocked? You do know that sharks live in the ocean right?
while this was incredibly tragic, it's absolutely crucial that we keep in mind that sharks eat whatever they want because that's their job in the ocean. there's a lot of alarmist vocabulary in the news report so remember: sharks are not scary, they're doing their job and they can't get you if you're not in their home.

The protection started in 1992, a 5-footer would be 17 ft now. There are just too many of big adults among thousands of big juveniles, they all are capable to kill a person in ONE sampling bite. I suggest open fishing for 10 ft and bigger GW, from shore, pier and beaches within 500 yards, no boats. Proper protection means good management and control.
