Very Impressive! Millo is fantastic as usual, Pavarotti puts in a solid effort and Scandiuzzi shows how good he was before his vibrato completely let go. A pity because his big, cavernous voice was perfect for Verdi. Millo steals the show with her great central section and the three voices blend nicely. Bravi tutti and thanks for posting!!
Pavarotti didn’t even have a particularly huge repertoire but still couldn’t bother to learn this?! Sutherland’s description of him turning up for a recording session not having learnt the score is also Ernani.
Sutherland wrote in her autobiography that he failed to learn the role of Maurizio for their 1988 recording of Adriane Lecouvreur (Bergonzi sang it instead). Pavarotti did perform Ernani, including a Live From the Met broadcast from 1983, and recorded it with Sutherland in 1987. This concert, I believe, was in 1994; it’s possible he insisted on looking at score so he wouldn’t need to memorize it again (assuming he hadn’t sung it for so long, he’d forgotten it...yet Bonynge claimed Pavarotti never learned to read music!).
Pavarotti had the one essential requirement- a great voice. Being intelligent is helpful, but hardly essential. And he was lazy, a slow study, etc. Not making excuses for him. Im sure we was paid well, and should have learned it. But he was hired to be Pavarotti, so he fulfilled his obligation I guess. Had he had more brains and ambition, he could have been a greater artist, but would be less popular. He reaped maximum rewards with the smallest effort. Efficiency!
@verdiguy Millo is not so fantastic, here. Watch her vocal and facial expression when she sings "la morte che t'aspetta, o vecchio affrettero", there isn't any. Plus, she loses the high note, on first "pieta".
Terzetto pregiatissimo.
Luciano is glorious. I couldn't give a damn whether he's using a score or not!
Estrelas Cintilantes !!!!!!!!!!!!!
... Deslumbrante , Aprile Millo !!!!!!
My God how I miss that woman. NO ONE today come faintly close to this great talent. Millo, like Price, Sills, Callas, Verrett....once in a lifetime!
TRIPLE amen to that! That was the diamond-encrusted platinum age of singing and today we have the chipped glass and cracked pottery age.
Fantastic singing by all, but Aprile Millo is stupendous!!!
for sure!
Millo es fantastica. Su voz, presencia e interpretación. Brava!!!!
How wonderful is Aprile Millo in this great trio !!!
Madame MILLO ❤👑sublime
Bravissima la Millo. perfetta come di solito
perfetta ? ma per favore, minuto 7:08 é muta
Wonderful performance, three great singers!
My godness aprile millo ❤️👑

So funny that at the end the backstage camera catches Millo taking off her pumps. Something tells me she did not know she was being filmed:-).
Bravi!
Fantastic

MAGNIFICO TRIO DE VOCES ESPLENDIDAD
Molto bello
Grandiosos...
Aprile looks like Bette Midler :-)
close
R.S. looks right out of Downton Abbey....

And where is your contribution to the operistic scene?
junefun55 Who cares?

For someone who didnt read music, he sure depends on the score.
Pavarotti had the one essential requirement- a great voice. Being intelligent is helpful, but hardly essential. And he was lazy, a slow study, etc. Not making excuses for him.
Aprile - one in a million. True Verdi singing and dramatic conviction, innate sense of style.
@@fabriziogarzi9892forse voleva dire altro
Even with Pav's face in the score, Millo with a bizarre hair style, and some other guy, its STILL GREAT!
Millo was the real thing.
I think her hairdo might have been as a tribute to Tebaldi whom she adored. I seem to remember Tebaldi working a similar WOOSH!
Hair, a Score, “And some other guy”??? What is wrong with you?
A shame Millo’s wonderful early singing was not supported by a technique sufficient to sustain her. She imitated Tebaldi too well, alas.
Not moved by this performance. The Bass is quiet determine though

Millo is marvelous. Why does Pavarotti have to use a score? Very unprofessional!
