komal see,if u write the order of energy of molecular orbitals,o2 has 16 electrons,so last 2 electrons occupy anti bonding pi orbitals right?means one electron in pi*2px and other in pi* 2py...now write p orbitals px_, pz_, py_ has L values 1,0,-1 respectively...now put your 2 electrons which are located in anti bonding 2px and 2py orbitals in px and py orbitals which are having L values 1 and -1 and your pz orbital which has L VALUE 0 remains empty(no electrons in pz orbital)...so now two single electrons are in px with l value 1 and py with l value -1....finally 1-1=0 is only possible. u can't take two L values with +1 here.....hope it will helpful to u.
