  • General episode - Friday November 21 2003
    Featuring Amanda, Jules and Suzanne
End credits are missing because the tape ran out while recording.
This is the very last episode of Wheel for 2003, and Rob Elliott’s last episode. The end of an era as we knew it, for on Christmas Eve 2003 the announcement was made that Rob Elliott’s contract would not be renewed for 2004. Thought by many to have been moved on by the Seven Network, other sources in recent times have said the opposite to be true.

Love to see that first episode of 2004 just to see whether Jules and Steve Oemcke get on like a house on fire.

Not a problem James. I had mp4 files downloaded as well of a 1994 ep, Tony Barber's debut ep and the 1998 live interactive ep before they were removed and I'm looking in the near future to putting my copies up. The quality won't be that flash. but as long as there's soemthing there anyway. I'm just watching the November 20 episode making sure that nothing went wrong during the upload. Once I'm satisfied with that, then that's all of the episodes I have from 2003 - all 31 of them.

This Was a great show to watch growing up well I'm 31 this year been watching it since Baby John in the late 1980's early 1990's didn't like Tony Barber much as host found him boring But when Rob Elliot took Over In 1997 started watching again untill it's axing in 2006 so sad but still can watch on you tube

Was this really Rob Elliott's final show? I assumed it went for another week before it finished up for the season. This seemed like a very abrupt and unceremonious curtain call for Rob, and there didn't seem to be much evidence or cadence to suggest it

I worked it out in the last couple of months from the cash jackpots. We know that Wheel for 2004 kicked off on February 9, and the February 26 episode (a Thursday show) on UA-cam had the jackpot at $7,000, meaning that the jackpot at the beginning of the week was $6,700. Wind back 2 weeks from the 23rd and the jackpot was $5,700 on the 9th. The jackpot in this episode was $5,600. I notice Rob mentioned something about being back the following week but that said, Tony Barber also said the show was going to continue over Christmas as well and never did, so I can only assume that the decision was made to wind up after the show had been taped.

@@7120Magnum those early Steve Oemcke shows were just 3 months after this episode, yet the show felt so different that it felt like years apart! I wonder if the bell ringing at the start of round 3 after just 20 spins of the wheel, and not much "filler" besides Amanda's mystery wedge flip and prize win was another indication of how things were gonna be in the new season since the bell always seemed to ring quite early during the Oemcke era - I haven't seen or can remember an episode during 2004 where the bell rang after round 3 or didn't ring at all, I know there were at least a few during Larry's run

@@JamesJimmaHarding I think that was more to do with the new host’s style of hosting the show. My money is on the fact that one wasn’t even decided upon yet considering it wasn’t announced until Christmas Eve that Rob wasn’t returning and Steve Oemcke’s appointment wasn’t announced until the new year. Given the late start to season, I’d say Steve’s first episodes were shot in 2004 given Mitsubishi was already onboard. Anything shot in 2003 would have still had the Renault.

@@7120Magnum So basically, it was similar to Burgo's sacking.

@@DomFalance Difference was Burgo didn’t know he was going, Rob Elliott did because he decided he was walking once his contract was up.

Certainly is now we know this was the last episode for 2003. Same with Tony Barber’s last episode - the round 1 puzzle was “To Go Back On Your Word” and that’s exactly what Channel 7 did to him after he went along with their “resignation” ploy. Wonder what the round 1 puzzle was for Burgo’s last episode and whether there was something in it.

In fairness, the new puzzle board wasn’t really touchscreen, as there were buttons on the corner of each screen that Sophie/Laura had to press to make the letter appear (they were moved to directly above or below when Kelly sorted out the letters for five weeks).

Also check out the episode were the puzzle was "N_T _ R _ _ C_NT" and the contestant guessed a "W". The answer was actually "NOT A RED CENT", though I'm sure it got a rather a few people's minds in the gutter lol
