I find it interesting that Spanish Caribbean food is fairly low-key when it comes to spices and chili peppers whereas English Caribbean food (like Jamaica, Trinidadian, etc) you often find an abundance of spices and chili peppers. Great food all around though.
Yeah, that's what I thought. I'll need to visit Florida or even fly down to the Caribbean one of these days to try the food from DR, PR, or Cuba. Where I'm from (Canada), these types of cuisines are not widely available. In major cities though like in Toronto, English Caribbean food (e.g. Jamaican, Trinidadian, Guyanese) is fairly easy to find.
whenever I walk into an authentic Latino restaurant, I feel very self conscious because I know I don't look Latino at all despite my heritage ans I always order my food in Spanish. I'm a proud American of Mexican/Cuban/Anglo decent :)
***** "Haiti is the first independent Latin American country. Haitians speak a French dialect. French is a Latin based language just as Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, and Romanian are. Spanish speaking Latinos are no more Latino than Latin Americans that speak French or Portuguese..." google seems to think so as well as Stanford University professors...and anyone with an elementary school level education, but you are entitled to your opinions, cheers.
***** That's what you think, not what you know. You should learn the difference; it's not that hard to learn and read how or why Haitians are Latinos. Romanians are also Latinos, but they have no cultural ties to anyone in Latin America, so your cultural "point" is not found. Whether Spanish and Portuguese speakers consider Haitians Latinos is of little importance, be mindful, Latinos are not just descendants from the Iberian peninsula. You guys are Hispanics and Latinos, the two are different; Hispanics come from Spain, Latinos come from any Latin nation.
***** I am aware of Latin America's diversity (I have always been intrigued by it, both ancient and modern), but regardless of race or skin tone, the people are considered Latinos because of the language you all speak. Natives to the land are Asian descendants, but would be considered Latino if they spoke a Latin language and practice the more modern customs. For example (anecdotal) my parents-in-law are native Guatemalans with little to no Spanish blood. They speak Spanish and consider themselves Latinos because of that, and they make it ever so clear that they are native and their Mayan dialects were taught to them before Spanish.
***** If you saw me, you'd say yes. If you saw my family tree, you'd say I'm mixed: African (most likely Igbo) Irish, French, Cherokee, Seminole, and Black Foot. I am how ever you wish to see me; my only desire is to be seen as a human man whom deserves respect and shall give it in return until I or another have done something to not deserve it.
+belmary ramirez they have thousands of kilometers of Caribbean coasts and culture too. They eat tostones and black beans too. And yes, they have important Southamerican territories and population too.
I LOVE Caribbean food. It's so colorful and flavorful. Such a nice difference than normal everyday ameeican food....my stomach is growling now watching this video!!! Haha I want to go to miami SO bad for my 21st b day!!!
Perhaps the report had to focus on major Caribbean island foods because they missed minor island foods such as Trinitarian's and continental Caribbean foods such as southern Mexican and northern Colombian and Venezuelan foods. Anyway, very nice report of some Caribbean foods. But please, check r pronunciation, carreta (engineless vehicle) isn't the same as careta (mask).
colombia and venezuela are in South America they might have some similarities but they are not caribbean countries they just have coast that border the caribe.they try to be caribe so bad lol
The best Caribbean food in Miami is made in the homes of the residents! jejeje I'm Cuban and never eat in the Cuban restaurants here. What the heck was up with all that cheese on that empanizado? And the best things at La Carreta are the croquetas and the coffee everything else is just meh. If you want legit Cuban/Caribbean food, make friends and go to eat at their mom's house. :)
who should be the voice for our next video about Caribbean Food? oh ya how bout the dude who cant properly pronounce any of the dishes? Great Idea!!!!!
We've had all types of fritters in Haiti, conch, chicken, beef or fish, etc. Don't forget that Haiti has been established as a Black Republic way before all the other islands.
You make no sense. Most of these Latin countries have a black population. They're almost the same thing. Everything you can find in Latin American countries with strong African influence you can find the same thing or something similar, countries like Dominica, Bahamas especially Haïti. Panama, Colombia, Brazil, Cuba just to name a few have strong afro influence then countries like Mexico, Guatemala, where you can see more if their Indigenous culture.
it does say that indeed. the thing is that for latin (which is where spanish derived from), U and V were considered the same letter. so technically its not a typo. and even though its written as "SAN JVAN BAVTISTA" it reads as ''SAN JUAN BAUTISTA"
so you know the answer in the little say caribbean cousine, if you arent caribbean why you ask about it, your country doesnt have enough spotlight for the media and do you want even more?
This vieo would have been so much better if Joanna would have narrated it. The guy couldn't even pronounce simple Spanish words right. Like "Carreta" not "Careta" there is a huge difference son!
One of the top reasons I love living in Miami. All the different kinds of food we have!
Dale!
Someone needs to learn how to roll their r's.
A chicken sandwich made with tostones as the bread...........genius and beautiful
ghost245353 My mom is very old fashioned PR. She doesn't like the new style of sandwich. Lol
Jamaica Puerto Rico Haiti and Cuba always get the most attention
I find it interesting that Spanish Caribbean food is fairly low-key when it comes to spices and chili peppers whereas English Caribbean food (like Jamaica, Trinidadian, etc) you often find an abundance of spices and chili peppers. Great food all around though.
gk891 Very true! I'm Dominican and I can confirm that Dominican food, Puerto Rican food and Cuban food is not spicy.

I understand. we come in all shades but people still don't realize that even in our own cultures. it's a shame, really.
Que Viva el Caribe

🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴🇩🇴viva la Republica Dominicana and the rest of the Caribbean❤❤
I'm surprised Haitian cuisine was mentioned in a FLAMA video (most Latinos I meet don't consider my people Latinos).
because they arent. im sorry but i dont consider haitians as part of latin america

This is the best Caribbean food in Long Island
Caribbean latino food looks more exotic than black Caribbean food
You can be racially Black AND Latin American from the Caribbean. Example: Celia Cruz.
You're comment makes NO sense.

It looks like SAN JVAN BAVTISTA.
it does say that indeed. the thing is that for latin (which is where spanish derived from), U and V were considered the same letter. so technically its not a typo. and even though its written as "SAN JVAN BAVTISTA" it reads as ''SAN JUAN BAUTISTA"

This vieo would have been so much better if Joanna would have narrated it. The guy couldn't even pronounce simple Spanish words right. Like "Carreta" not "Careta" there is a huge difference son!
venezualea and colombia are not part of carribean
One could maybe argue that the coastal parts of Colombia and Venezuela share a lot in common with the Caribbean in terms of history and culture.
This is true they just have coast but they are not caribe like cuba,pr,dr.
haitian food will take over good bye Jamaicans also Dominican food take over
Venezuela? Colombia? No? No? Okay 😐
