    Like that Makita, my Google Chrome regularly grinds down to a spinning globe so I swapped over to Firefox. For some reason, I haven't been seeing your videoes pop up recently Dean but there you were. Very reassuring to see a craftsman at work again

    Good machine for light work, like drilling fixings into walls outside where a trailing cable would be dangerous.
    I never had a problem with this well designed Makita tool.

    I needed to do this but the switch was dying because the armature was bad, i replaced the armature, switch, brushes and piston o rings. 2013 machine going strong, well worth it

    I must say that it seems more well built than newer models like DHR182.
    Rubber seal for trigger, anti vibration for battery.
    I have a suggestion if you could tell were the country of origin are on the machines. I’m just curious if the quality differs and how many models are from China and from other countries like in the case of Makita made in Japan.

    Thanks for the advice on what drill i should buy. You said get a makita ddf484z i looked at the option on metal gears so i opted for the makita ddf489z. Cheers again 👍 What sliding mitre saw would you recommend. I am looking at a makita LS1219L. Great vidz again Dean.

    Dean, what is the function of that black piece around the leads of the brushholder? Is that Some kind of suppression? I see that in a lot of powertools.

    The road less travelled is the discussion around the types of 18650 batteries used in power packs. Murata Sony VTC-D 18650 is rated at 35Amps continuous discharge. Sony VTC6 is rated at 15Amps continuous discharge. The old reliable Samsung 25R is rated at 20Amps. Battery packs are wired in series meaning only the volts increase not the amperage and this is why it is important to know the Amp rating. Lower amp batteries being pushed to 30Amps causes the batteries to overheat. That is bad on a number of levels. Next time you disantle a power pack, unwrap a cell. All the info is stamped on the battery.

      Good to know

    • @alouisschafer7212
      @alouisschafer7212 6 днів тому +1

      The Makita 18V pack is a parallel series configuration they have two cells in parallel to increase capacity and amperage.
      The tiny 1,5 and 2 ah packs are single cell though, everything bigger is double cell.
      Makita uses different cells but I know for a fact the most common BL1840B uses Sony Murata cells with 20 amp or 22 amp discharge current.
      So 40 amps discharge at 18V which a fully charge battery will be able to sustain at that load and we have 720W of power delivered to the tool. Thats why brushed tools burn out, these lithium batterys power through anything.
      Makitas strongest battery the BL4080 40V 8 ah delivers 2100W! They use Murata VTC6A 21700 size cells and again two in parallel 20 amps each and 10 of those in a series string for 40V.
      Strongest batteries are the Greenworks Ego+ 50V, the 6 ah has a peak of 4,5 kilowatts.

    • @Surfingaliens65
      @Surfingaliens65 4 дні тому

      @alouisschafer7212 That is good to know. Murata produces exceptional batteries. Battery information should be included on the pack. The cells are the most important component, and it is a shame that important information has been excluded.

    Genuine question: why would the owner send it for repair, if the repaircost is nearly the same price as buying a new one?
    I looked online and a new makita dhr202z 18v costs €150 (discounted from 200) and a dhr242z 18v sds-plus €217,50
    (I dont own any machine myself, so might not know the differences. I also commented at around 5mins in the video)

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  7 днів тому +1

      Because the repair is still cheaper. The repair cost 82 euro. A new body best price is 150. But noy everyone buys online where it's cheapest.
      Local shops are generally going to be more expensive probably around d 180-200. But like here, you can drop it back if you have any problems. Like this guy has.

    I don't know what type of plastic that they make those brush holders out of but you'd think that knowing about this problem they'd come up with a high heat version of plastic that would not melt because it's giving them a bad reputation every time a customer has a problem with something and it's not very old they're going to not want to buy that product anymore

    • @alouisschafer7212
      @alouisschafer7212 6 днів тому

      If the brush holder actually melts the motor is gone anyways these don't melt unless the motor is overheated.

    That unit is 8 years old from what I heard you say 2016 and now its 2024 that's $10.00 a year at $80 total which is not a bad investment at all

    Even a Makita has an awful chuck like this so that the drill bit wobbles like crazy :(

    • @MrAmorti
      @MrAmorti 9 днів тому +3

      Or the bit could be bent? It's not likely Dean would take his best one for testing hammer drills against a metal bench.

    • @absurdengineering
      @absurdengineering 9 днів тому +2

      It’s a chuck from 2016. When it was brand new it was fairly tight. That one saw some use and likely abuse.

    • @deandohertygreaser
      @deandohertygreaser  9 днів тому +4

      The bit itself is bent. I use it as a steel chisel also

  • @darylhudson777

    You would think the higher voltage units 36 volts and up would draw less amps than the 12/18-20 volt units

    • @alouisschafer7212
      @alouisschafer7212 6 днів тому

      They don't because the tools are more powerful and all brushless 😅. But yes at the same power output they draw half the current but the tools are more powerful being 40v and people want just that.
      Makitas 2x18V and 40V tools are actually surprisingly identical in power though I think some even use the same internals.
