    The culmination of 1000 years of development. Wish I could afford such a thing. Great informative video. Thanks.

    I've always loved the sound of HG, but this is a stunning piece of craftsmanship as well!

    I just have to say that this design is absolutely stunning, I am saving to get a new HG, and I think I just found my goal. Beautiful work, and well explained.

      The prices George and Anwynn offer are freaking amazing compared to most makers! He's also got a passion for creativity and craftsmanship that shows in every instrument he makes. ,:D

    There's another one called F/Bb which is G/C but a step down so you can play w/ Great Highland Bagpipe players.

    You know what's weird? I'm left handed. But when I see someone playing an instrument with their left hand I wince. For some reason I play instruments right handed. And yeah, I know, redditbro stop pushing your glasses up your nose and take that 'ACKSHUALLY!' out of your mouth, I know this is right handed but you know exactly what I mean. Nerd. :P

    Really good to learn from you about the advanced design Hurdy Gurdy and I think that yours is the most interesting one that I have seen upto now. It is also a beautiful piece of craftsmanship and precision. Thanks for sharing....

    Every time I watch this video it makes me want to learn and play the HG even more. I have big plans for saving up to purchase the Full Monty. Look out for my order! (though it's gonna be a few years lol)

    +altarwind I've never played a hurdy gurdy before, but I'm looking to get into the craft. Would the Full Monty be good for a new player or would a simpler model (like your Aquataine) be wiser until I get experience?

    • @altarwind
      @altarwind  8 років тому +2

      +Joseph Harding Thanks for the note. It's a lot of instrument! If you're a complete beginner, I generally would recommend starting with something a little simpler (the 'Aquitaine's a great instrument). You can always trade it in for value against the Full Monty later on. If you're absolutely committed to taking the instrument as far as you can, the Full Monty is a sweet choice, but be prepared for a bigger learning curve. I hope this helps!

      I am about to pop for a Moncur. Is it all you expected? Anything you don't like? I have been searching and window shopping for months, and so far, I see nothing to compare with the brand. But I had to ask someone who owns one. :o)

    Can it be made to have a lower sound? I prefer the lower sounding instruments I see other popular players cranking. I would probably buy it if it had the more low Cello like sounds primarily rather than the higher pitched sounds. I apologize if my terminology is lacking.

    • @altarwind
      @altarwind  5 років тому

      Hi! There are different tuning configs that can be used, one is a lower octave version for the 'd' chanters which would give you a 'lower' sound.

      This is pretty much the same thing that she has. Only real difference that I can tell is that this gurdy is higher pitched.

    • @ArwenStarsongMusic
      @ArwenStarsongMusic 5 років тому

      Patty buys her gurdies from Walter simons. Also an amazing craftsman. But if you're looking for someone with good quality craftsmanship and dont wanna take a trip to germany to get yours made (because Simons cant ship to America due to airlines being jerks to musicians) George will definitely have you covered. Not to mention, he is also super helpful! Been playing my baby he made me for a year now and thanks to his book, I am learning a ton!
