Vintage vobes. Thank you so much for this little gem of a video. This was the style and subject matter that drew me to subscribe to channel initially. A simple little walk thoughtfully and beautifully filmed with apt musical accompaniment and even the bleating and antics of sheep given a supporting role.
Yes, I stumbled on Richard Vobes completely by accident around 1 year ago and it was a video exactly like this that pulled me in, had I 'stumbled' 1 day earlier or one day later I may not be here today. Fate is what it's all about......
Hi Richard. We met you as you completed your filming for this video. It was lovely meeting and talking with you. This is a landscape we know well, and your framing and photography capture it beautifully. Seeing you eating that apple at the end - you must come and visit our Steyning Community Orchard in the autumn when we press the apples for juice. We specialise in rare Sussex apples such as Knobby Russet, Dr Hogg, Sussex Forge and many more.
Beautiful views. You are so fortunate to live in such a lovely place. Great to see the Sunshine 🌞 which makes such a difference. Weather forecast looks much better from Wednesday onwards. I think we've all had enough rain. 🌧️
There's so much of Sussex I don't know and watching you on your walks helps me see what beautiful countryside we still have. I must start getting me out of Burgess Hill and explore, thanks for sharing
Great video Richard, however instead of on apple at the end of your walk you should have had a well deserved cold beer like they did in the film "Ice Cold in Alex"!
Coombes, St Botolphs and the bowl are my favourite cycling areas, big fun to be had on the bike coming down that steep path to the stables Richard. Nearby on the South downs way is the pig farm with delightful piglets to be seen occasionally and that takes you back to Coombes.
Fantastic, just right length, great music, beautiful scenery, relaxing, informative but not boring, Bald Explorer at his best! Reckon you were reminded of Ice Cold in Alex because you have to go up hills twice, once to set up camera, then to film yourself going uphill. Thank you for doing it and well deserved apple!!
When I was at Steyning Grammar School in the 1950s, our regular cross-country running track was from the school, up one side of Steyning Bowl, along the top, and back down the other side, quite a big effort but it kept us fit. I'm willing to bet it's not part of the routine at the school today. We had an annual race around the course, and one year coming back I lost one of my running shoes in knee-deep mud where the track passed through a farm. I couldn't find it, and ran the rest of the way with one shoe.
In my time at SGS (1959-66), the annual cross country (as opposed to a PE lesson with Shocker running round the Horseshoe), included running along the moat at Bramber Castle. Whereas the PE runs were compulsory, the Annual Cross Country was voluntary. Although a non runner, I chose to take part because one could dawdle around with fellow skivers and have an extra bit of fun covering the markers (non participant boys who stood indicating the way for the runners to go) with splashes and dollops of mud. We would also try to remove their caps as we passed and see them subjected to the grime underfoot. Happy days!
@@brianboyd5132 Mud is certainly my biggest memory of the annual races. I'd forgotten they were voluntary, which makes me wonder why I participated! We never did the moat run in my time - I left in 1957.
Thank-you for the lovely video Richard. I sat and watched your video with interest, as my wife and I have stayed (for short breaks) in Bramber a number of times in the past. I had my OS map with me, at the time, but didn't realise there was such a beautiful walk close to hand - silly me! I had my OS map with me, for this virtual walk, and it helped greatly to understand your comments about the landmarks. Some lovely shots of the wild flowers - many thanks. With regards to the opportunity to interview a planning officer about trees - you should keep a few business cards in your wallet! Perhaps it would have been mutually beneficial for you to chat to a planning officer as it may help educate Joe Public on such matters ?!
Like others , i much enjoy the classic BE vids . Came across them 18 months ago , when exploring Shropshire . Loved those ones . But i end up watching others, like this in other parts of the country , including your native Sussex...even though we tend to not do Southern England often .
Great walk, loved the views and countryside and Woodlands, Bramber Castle and styening bowl look lovely places, would love to explore them one day, lovely old houses too. Like the bit at the end casually walking of while munching on an apple, you looked like a TV presenter, you would be Great on theese nature programs, Great video Richard :)
Love these walks. I feel like I’m there almost. Thank you for sharing your area. Love all the nature and green scenery. I wish this was smellavision! I love the sounds and smells of the country (except pig styles) such as animals.
Thank you for reminding me , that movie was a favorite of my mum , what an effort reversing that ambulance up that sand dune , even acting . a well deserved apple ,,
At the other end of Steyning is Mouse Lane which leads into the old shooting range area and old Victorian chalk pits area which I recently discovered May take the dog along this walk as I'm always looking for new places !
I was worried that you didn't have any water on your hike, even for a short one I always carry water and then you started talking about Ice Cold In Alex and I knew you must be hot and thirsty! The end sequence was used in an ad for some dreadful lager. I watched an interview with John Mills and he talked about the end and having to film drinking that beer over and over! Just found your videos! Lots to catch up with! Thanks Jane.
I enjoyed that very much eating my toast and marmalade with a cup of tea. Thank you. I like the shorter video format myself but I I realize it must put a lot pressure on you, putting one out each day. It would be nice if you were able to combine the two formats but somehow cut down on your workload. Not sure if that’s possible!
Disaster struck at Shoreham when a Hunter looped the loop.. Too low by far its base line flight too steep his earthbound swoop.. The carriageway his landing strip the right of way all theirs.. Nothing about it could they do nothing in life prepares. JB21

'Shoreham' airport is actually in Lancing, the boundary runs down the river.

Love the music in this, the staccato violin music just before you stop for a chat 13:00, can you tell us what it is?
It is a track from Artlist production Music
@@RichardVobes so I can't get a copy then? Shame.

Charles I rather than II, I fancy. Charles II was welcomed back from France as part of the Restoration
It was Charles 2nd that escaped to France via the Monarchs Way - sorry to correct you.
Alex was Alexandria. Was it Egypt? Thanks for the verdant video.
Richard where do you get your music for your videos? It is simply amazing and would be nice to listen to in the background all the time.
I used Artlist production music
