Dear Richard, Whenever you doubt yourself, come back to this video and remind yourself of why you got into the arts. This was an incredible performance. You brought a much-needed smile to my face.
Donald O'Connor did the original in separate scenes then edited together, while Lovegrove here has to do everything in one take. No wonder he gets winded! And I can understand how they can't have him run up the wall like O'Connor in the film live every night. Great job by Richard Lovegrove!
@@BeyondBaito yep, he spent 3 days in bed rest after shooting it, and when he came back he had to do the whole routine again due to an issue with the camera!
Actually he did do the entire scene in one take, but the footage got lost so he had to redo the scene after coming out of the hospital due to collapsing from exhaustion after he performed it the first time(he was a heavy smoker)
This is unbelievable, all in one take with that energy is impressive. My school is running a Singing In The Rain musical and I’m auditioning for cosmo! Wish me luck!
I'd say you succeeded. Not only did you make me laugh, you entertained me greatly. Fantastic job, Richard. Any chance of a repeat one night on QUIZarenaLIVE? 😉
I second this. Thank God for live chat replays. I've been hunting for this link manually. Richard, you are talented. Great stage presence. I'm now going to push for a musical episode of QUIZarenaLIVE just to hear you sing. And Rhiannon, don't think you're getting out of doing it either. Both of you doing a duet. Now that's entertainment.
It's in Gosford, New South Wales, Australia -- about 80 kilometres north of Sydney. The amateur musical society puts on 3 musicals a year and 2 junior shows.
You guys will go very far!! This was very impressive indeed! Thoroughly enjoyed it, Singin' In The Rain is my favourite musical and you did this number brilliantly. Gene Kelly would be so proud.
The truth is that this is a good job, considering how exhausting it must be to perform this act without stopping it is incredible. Although the dance and rhythm of the song is slower than in the original as it is a stage version, I think there are gestures and movements that are very typical of Donald O'Connor, and that makes it fun to watch.
This was so amazing! It would be my DREAM to play Cosmo (My school is doing singing in the rain next year) but I'm a girl so... =( You did fantastically though!!
@sabyr I agree!!! Oh gosh was his voice annoying! It sounded all through the nose and he didn't seem realistic. But I agree, the man playing Cosmo was splendid!
I hate to be that person but it's "ridi pagliacci" not "really" ridi pagliacci is Italian for laugh clown. It comes from the italian musical "Pagliacco" You're welcome for this brief Italian lesson :)
Who said the pit band stunk? Way better than anything we had at my high school. They seem pretty good not knowing the ful stage written music. About everything over all, the ending stunk and the jokes were cheesy, but didn't work, not even in old fashioned cheesy goodness. I think the director tried too hard or something.
Nope. Doesn't make any sense for Cosmo to acknowledge the real audience. It's breaking the fourth wall.. and there's no call for it in this show. I fear it's an ego making that happen...
Is this a high school production? They're *asking* for the laughs. Sorry, but I was as bored as the audience. The only funny part was when he said "Thank you" to the audience for finally chuckling, then they really laughed because they took it as a *genuine* thanks from the actor, dying up there. Sorry, but it was awful. And if that wasn't enough, the pit band sucked too. It's sad when the director relies on the film version. Oh, and that paper thing at the end, ugh. I'll stick with the movie.
As an actor I firmly disagree with you. However I won’t argue, I will just state my opinion. Cosmo is a very difficult role to play and this scene is the pinnacle. To do this scene you have to make the audience laugh with nothing but yourself, you can’t rely on anything or anyone else. You also must find the balance of you character, making sure you don’t seem like yourself when performing it. Also, you can’t look COMPLETELY terrible on stage, otherwise immediately the audience will turn away. This scene requires plenty of creative parts, the paper being an all original thing. The actor in this scenario was able to make the audience LAUGH, and he did an outstanding job in replicating Donald in the movie version for the beginning “short people have…” This was an outstanding piece and am taking many notes on it for my upcoming production. The energy was superb and it overall made me laugh, it’s very difficult but you pulled it off nicely. Also, “I’ll stick to the movie”. This actor was t trying to make it better than the movie, he wasn’t trying to be better than any of the pros. While scenes of Donald were actually SPED UP, this man was able to do it in real time in one take. Thankyou

I heard rumor Donald O Connor apparently had to be taken to the hospital after they finished filming because of how many times he actually got hurt.
@@BeyondBaito yep, he spent 3 days in bed rest after shooting it, and when he came back he had to do the whole routine again due to an issue with the camera!

Guarantee O’Connor could have probably done it in a one off if he didn’t smoke four packs of of cigarettes a day.
This is unbelievable, all in one take with that energy is impressive. My school is running a Singing In The Rain musical and I’m auditioning for cosmo! Wish me luck!
How did it go?
That REALLY made me LAUGH! Great job!

Wow! That poor guy must have been black and blue in the rehearsals!
Still an amazing performance :D Well done!
It makes me want to see the whole thing!
This is fantastic. I'm playing Cosmo in SITR this spring, and this is excellent inspiration for my acting :)
Excellent. O’Connor would be proud 👍🏾

Very nice 😆😆😆👏👏👏 Not bad!
Why is the guy playing Don Lockwood doing a Liberace impression?!
i think he’s trying to imitate gene kelly’s trans-atlantic accent
@fxfxsound That IS how Donald O'Connor pronounced it in the movie...
///////////////Great Number! You could do this Stephen!!

HAHAHA I liked that better than old Donnie's original in the movie! especially the audience interaction and the stretcher bit at the end. Excellent!!!
not fast enough. but awesome!!
Not only 1 chance, but about 20 performances, sometimes 2 a day.
"PAPER CUT!"
In my opinion, this number nearly rivals the original performance.Good show.
Who knows this from FG
This was so amazing! It would be my DREAM to play Cosmo (My school is doing singing in the rain next year) but I'm a girl so... =(
You did fantastically though!!
I’m a girl and I play Cosmo
lol the guy who plays don almost sounds like gene kelly :D

this was damn good, although i was kinda lookin forward to the wall runs, or i wish there wouldve at least been a better replacement for it
why are they doing the dialog from the movie, some of that stuff isn't in the musical
OMG!!! Thats soo funnny, Not as good as the movie one. But I LOL so hard!!
heyy i saw oliver i saw east
@sabyr I agree!!! Oh gosh was his voice annoying! It sounded all through the nose and he didn't seem realistic. But I agree, the man playing Cosmo was splendid!

Italian opera, "pagliacci"
you're welcome.
Can i marry This guy?
yeah they wouldnt let him, but the idea is not to compare as richard and Don are not the same person :)
good, but it doesnt top the original
Just want to clarify, I place the blame squarely on the uninspired director.

yeah what the hell is up with don? why does he talk like that
He's trying to Gene's accent
That Gene Kelly impersonation is 100% awful!
