I was there! In my memories, still the best Terrapin Station (deadhead national anthem!) I've heard live. I'm sure the boys were musically on fire but it was the energy of the crowd. This was the third night at the space ship in Hampton first east coast comeback shows after Jerry's diabetic coma the year before. The place levitated then took off with the energy of everyone pogoing up and down, screaming and yelling so loud the band was just sort of background noise to the crackling electric energy of the crowd. Good times for sure. So good it got me to the Greek theater for summer solstice (first Watchtower!) but that's another story.
Because he’s not on smack and he has a glow of being alive and a real person. But also when he was sober he didn’t visibly get into it, it’s a beautiful thing
Similar to another comment, a non-deadhead might not see anything special about this clip. For those who loved the band before the height of Jerry's drug addiction ('84-'86) and who witnessed his decline and his diabetic coma in '86, seeing Jerry become relatively animated in 1987 meant we had hope for the Grateful Dead experience/community to live another day.
Great clip. Having only been able to see Jerry in ‘94 and ‘95 I am well aware that I missed out on the true power of the Grateful Dead. Though I still treasure the shows I did catch and still thought they were pretty darn good. Seeing Jerry this animated brings a wide smile to my face.
I was at this show and yes when Garcia moves and smiles you don’t really need the music to make you happy !! But the music will always provide you with entertainment. As I watch this five minutes I got Goosebumps just like when I was there . Peace ☮ from Hawaii 🤙🏝🐬🎸🌴🌋🐳🍄🌺🌸🐠🏄🏻♂🦑🐙🍺🌹
After the coma Jerry was in, 1987 was a special year. You could see it in the way Jerry played. He had a second chance. He was not going to waste it. 87 was a great year. Dead and Dylan in the summer. Touch of Grey came out. Then things all changed.
I wouldn’t say he’s imitating Bob. Jerry had his stroke in 85 and hadn’t been this animated and full of joy that much onstage since it happened. They know it and are cheering Captain Trips back so glad to see him his old self once again! He’s playing like this today in Heaven 🙌🏻🎸🌹🎸🔥💀🌹
It's impossible for people who aren't heads to understand the joy we felt when Jerry was animated and happy
It still affects me when I watch things like this.
@@D-Fens_1632 me too
This brought a tear to my eye.
Me too
Absolutely true. Don't even get me started on getting 'the look' up in front row.
nothing more powerful in the universe than a dancing jerry
hard agree
This is a fact
Howdy 🤠….I just currently learned what you mean ….look at him on the GDMovie
You've never pissed off my Baby Mama before bro
😂😂 that’s because we all danced that joy together! 🥳

Lucky man wish I was there that's the greatest
@@robertbell4341 What a long strange trip its been....nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile.
Man I love seeing him so energized. I dont know why it makes me so happy.
All that love is why!
because he is a blues man.
Because there's no one else that can do that there's only one Jerry Garcia
Because he’s not on smack and he has a glow of being alive and a real person. But also when he was sober he didn’t visibly get into it, it’s a beautiful thing
Of course you do! It’s why you were there!😁

Wow, THIS Jerry was my favorite Jerry. And this version is killer because of it!

the energy in this clip could solve the problems of the world.
it won't. but it COULD

That was adorable, haha.. Ah, Jerry I miss you, buddy 🥰
Crowd is out of control!
Really great! Having so much fun!
A good, crazy Dead year. Tearing up watching this. Jerry having a great time is like magic.
It's so funny, he had so little stagecraft or showbiz stuff that when he did anything unusual it was hilarious
Busy Gerry, volume knob, tone knob, 9 finger action, o and dancing and adjusting his spectacles. WOW. Miss him with sadness my love grows
Something in the air that night

I never knew the man but he was a good friend of mine
Yeah, and this crowd was up for it too…what great energy this show had!
My birthday shows! Awesome post! Thanks! ❄️🌍❄️👁️💓🎵💣🔥💥🍄❤️🎸🙏
So happy I saw this live.
God that gave me goosebumps 😳 Jerry’s overdrive tone in the late 80’s was cookin 🔥
The energy is just mesmerizing. Love this and just subbed!!
Thanks for posting this gem. I drank it in. Subbed.
Clean Jerry!!!
Gave me chills.
'87 was a nice year for the Dead

Jerry wasn’t a showboat guitarist… despite being one of the greatest. To see him joke around is a joy.
Fuckin awesome. Chills from head to toe....
Made my day ❤
God damn.. so freakin awesome
I laughed I cried....that was pretty special
Come on, Jerry! Don the short shorts and you’ll have it 100%!!!
Someone's havin' fun
Jerry is feeling it here, I never knew he messed w Bobby like this. It seems like they were both loving It 💀
Never trust a prankster 😊✌❤
They were best friends ❤️
Brothers
Goosebumps
WOW.....

watch the 76 Cameron Indoor show from Duke...Jerry was on fire.....makes me smile
'78,i think you mean
🔥
Doses were clearly clean this year
Greatest clip ever
That was definitely special I love that how could you not like the grateful Dead and especially Jerry no one even compares
sweeeet!
'87 was special
It sure was!
Happy Happy Happy
garcia comeback
Imitate Bobby???? What??? 🐢 🐢 🐢 🐢 never heard Bobby anyway, only Phil & Jerry guitars
That’s stupid
The fat man rocks
Never seen him so active on stage, the coke must have been really good that night. That's fine, Jerry can do whatever the hell he wants!
87-90 are Jerry’s clean years
You really believe that? He definitely cleaned up his act after the coma ,but c'mon those guys all partied every year.
The coma was Jerry’s wake up call. He was clean up until Brents death in 90. After that, Jerry started slowly dying.
One does not just quit Heroin. I love Jerry, but just being honest.
@@evertking1 sorry friend, but you have no idea what you are talking about. If you think you do, you’re only speaking from your own experience.
What a goof :)
I don't get it. Can someone explain
Watch from about 2:10...
It's as if any other rock star did a triple back flip.
Terrapin is the dead’s stairway to heaven , bohemian rhapsody, day in the life…a rock symphony
It’s their “Kashmir”
There is no DEAD without Jerry……it was his band from beginning to end……he would disagree with me though
