When you compare this to Sam/Scanlan casting a 9th level Counterspell in a battle when he intended to use Wish to break Vax’s fate with The Matron, effectively sealing Vax’s fate… …this was Scanlan “righting a wrong” he’d been carrying in his heart. No one else faulted Scanlan or Sam for not being able to save Vax, but you could tell he never let himself move on. But with this one final Wish, he finally forgave himself.
I’m honestly brokenhearted that you didn’t show probably the most devastating line. Which was what Vax said to Scanlan when he first appears “Scanlan Shortlold, you are toying with the designs of the gods still I see; old friend. […] she will allow it, and I thank you” After years, this is still the quote that has been burned into my brain
It was SO GOOD too. That being the very first thing that he says when he comes out is just amazingly melancholic. I like to think of that moment as if despite the sands of time no longer flowing for Vax, and that he could have passed little over a day or a millennia of years, he still remembers his family.
@@ducksinthewild He's definitely no longer the Vax we once knew. Being champion of the Matron and stepping fully into her domain changed him. But there's still those glimmers. Eg. He still sends a raven every day to Keyleth, even tho this would make it harder for her to move on, because thats still his keyleth and he misses her.
That Wish spell hit me right in the gut. What a beautiful way to give Vax one final goodbye and congratulations to his sister, and his new brother, on the best day of their lives.
I read a fanfic where Vex/Vaxs half sister gets married years down the road and since the wish was worded the way it was it opened the door for Vax to see them all again as parents and older. I totally cried.😭
Hi Jay, I don't know if you realise, but Liam's character is Dalen's Closet is Derrig, who is the father of Orym from C3. Yet another connection between the 2 campaigns, which I know some people have had a lot of issues with and is a reason why some have not enjoyed C3 so much. But personally, I find the inter-connections between campaigns fascinating, even though I am sad that it does look as if we are coming to the end of three-part story and there will be a new beginning after that, whatever the new beginning might look like...
@@rantdmc It's cool. Orym calls him dad all the time, because Orym never knew his father, and Derrig basically raised him alongside his 4 kids. (The triplets he mentions in this one shot, and Will, Orym's husband, who was born after this one-shot in the CR timeline)
That connection wasn’t one that ever bothered me, until the party started entertaining thoughts of tapping Keyleth as a resource. But now that the ship has sailed honestly the involvement of old PC’s is the least of my problems with C3
That one-shot absolutely marked a place in my heart, Vax being really special to me, getting to see this closure not only with everyone, but especially Keyleth. That scene where Vex tells him to “turn around and talk to her idiot!”, the exchange they both have will always give me chills and make me cry. I just love them all so much!
I know these characters show up in C3, but this really feels like the end of Vox Machina. They're still friends and they still exist in the world, but this is the end of their story. Its something thats very sad in that way that very happy way. This is the last time we get to see them being in the spotlight, being the leads. Even when we get to see them again, we know its not the same. They get a happy ending within their own story, but its still the end of a story.
Watching that one shot live was a truly magical experience, because as portant as it was for the characters to get a proper chance to say goodbye to each other, it was just as important for us fans to get the chance to tell them goodbye as well.
Small Mechanics Note: In the fight with Sylas, Vex activated her Blessing from the Dawnfather, the one she got for being his champion, not a magic item. It makes her into a source of daylight, just like her deity (along with some other stuff like dealing Radiant Damage). Addition: Pike using her Spiritual Weapon to make Vex a bow makes a lot of sense with mechanics when you remember that Pike is a War Domain cleric. That's why her channel divinity abilities are things like giving +10 to an ally's attack roll. Her domain is all about physical combat. And honestly, I don't think the Everlight minds this use in the slightest.
Vox Machina's appearances in campaign 3 are very much as NPCs. They've become the powerful in this world and they are treated as such. It doesn't feel (at least to me) like a continuation of their story? Their lives have continued but Their Story has come to an end. It’s Keyleth’s ten year anniversary of becoming Voice of the Tempest? Time for another shotgun wedding/divorce. While I know this could kind of soften the tragedy of Vax’s death, I think there’s something almost more tragic about none of them (especially Keyleth) ever truly being able to get over Vax. @@PlayYourRoleAt least I’m getting more creative with these spoiler criticisms.
@@LocalMaple that really was as a dc fan
I don't particularly care about actors (ofc, i have favs, but thats a different thing), heck, i care even less about vpice actors, i don't really know any US one (i'm from hungary, listened everything as a child with hungarian voiceovers)
But when i hear a character talking the first time and i realize its Laura or Matt or any one of THEM, i'm full of joy! I'd add first that Tiny Tina is one of my FAV Borderlands character, but NOT becouse Tina is so well written and not becouse she is cool, i love Tina, becouse her voiceactor, Aslhy made some wonderful stories with this bunch of amazing guys
I love TotK Ganondorf, BECOUSE he is voiceacted by Matt Mercer
And i LOVE these bunch of weirdoes, becouse they were some of the first person to ever say to *me*, that "Don't forget to love each other, we love you!", becouse they made me feel loved and be part of the amazing experience that they have!
