The hardest thing about getting older isn't reckoning with your own mortality. It's saying goodbye to everyone who goes before you. My heartfelt condolences to the Foley and Late Show families.
:(
Well said.
Whoever put this together, well done.
Really fantastic to see these people who really made the show. I miss this show so much. What a great guy.
R.I.P. Jerry Foley. This is perhaps the most beautiful video you all have posted. Love to the entire Letterman family.
RIP Jerry... He's up there with Big Red now looking back & laughing about 'Alan Kalter's Celebrity Interviews'.
I got to sit in the control room and watch him direct an episode. It was so cool to see how the show was made. One thing I never forgot was that the control room people were actually laughing at the monologue jokes. All those years, and they still remembered to smell the roses.
Thanks for all you've contributed Jerry. RIP
What a legend. I was fortunate enough to work as an intern on the show in Spring 2005. I sat in the control room when Travolta came on to promote Be Cool. Let’s just say it was an interesting night to be a fly on the wall. 😂 That memory of Jerry will stay with me forever. Would love to see that interview again if it ever makes it to the top of your clip pile.
Just absolutely love this channel. Dave was always really good & really humorous about showing the nuts & bolts of the show. But the Barbara Gaines show takes it to another level that really just makes you realize how important the people behind the camera were to the show's success. And how they were one big late night TV family that we all now get to feel like we're a part of. RIP Jerry Foley
RIP. He lived his dream life, gave his best and succeeded greatly. Wonderful
RIP Mr. Foley
Beautiful tribute.
That was a terrific piece. The contribution of Jerry and Hal before him in shaping what Dave and company were doing is immeasurable, whether it is cutting to a funny shot of an audience member or how the music performances appeared to the TV audience. A huge loss. RIP.
What a magnificent piece. He must have been so special to know as a human being. Safe journey, Jerry!!
Very well said.
Beautiful. Thanks to whoever put that together (Walter?), and RIP Jerry. A life well lived.
It’s indeed Walter. He has an unmatched sensitivity that matches his unhealthy talent putting stuff like this together.
Brilliant Tribute to an amazingly talented man whom I've known for over 55 year's, as the younger brother of my high school pal, he had an uncanny sense of humor accompanied by quick wit and delivery. He will be greatly missed. Goodbye My Friend. Rest In Eternal Peace
What a lovely, warm, articulate, graceful and gracious man. What a joy he must have been to work with and to know. My heart goes out to his loved ones. May his memory be a blessing.
What a wonderful recollection from a person who added to my life as part of the Letterman show. Thanks man…
You just never know when someone's gonna leave you. As I get older you realize the not only is time precious, but how you spend it with others is what's most important. Jerry died from a ski accident at 68. Condolences to his family and those folks that knew him from the show.
RIP Jerry. It was a pleasure knowing and working with you.
RIP, another great that helped Letterman become one of the best ever
This was unbelievably moving, ANY day. Thank you.
The greatest to ever do it. What a pleasure it was to get to work with Jerry Foley. May his memory be a blessing.
My warmest and sincerest condolences on the loss of Jerry Foley, to his family, friends and all his extended friends in the Letterman family.
Simply beautiful. My sincere condolences. ❤
RIP Jerry. You had a great gift to do something you loved, and you clearly loved what you did. My condolences to his family and his friends on Late Night. I didn't know the guy but I feel like I did just a bit after watching this.
A brilliant director and an even greater person. Rest in peace Jerry Foley. ❤
Very moving. I'm sorry for your loss, Late Night Family.
Rest in heavenly peace. Such a beautiful life lived.
Loved the appreciation and loyalty displayed in this segment.
What a great tribute. He made great shows and his talent will be missed. He's moved across the hall.
RIP Mr Foley. You were an integral part of comedic legend!
This was so well done. 👍🏽 😢
A lovely tribute. Jerry Foley obviously knew what he wanted to do at a young age, realized the dream, and directed thousands of hours of entertainment in the process.
Beautiful piece.
Deep Peace to Jerry's family, his Late Show family, his friends and to all who knew him. 💜 Thank you for putting this amazing and wonderful video up for us all to enjoy and appreciate.
RIP Mr. Foley. The work ethic is to be admired.
All good wishes to his family.
Thank you sir for being the machine that made 'Late Show' possible for a long time. Godspeed!
What he said was so beautiful. The homage was gorgeous. What a creative mind. He lived his dream.
I'm very sorry to see this. Rest in peace.
wow, what a gripping farewell. Jerrys story and how he felt about the show really hit home with me. It really was the very best of times and he got to work on it. And I got to watch it all happen.
what a delightful remembrance.
thank you all kindly
It would have been nice to have met Mr. Foley. Seems like a great guy with a heart very much in the right place. Thank You very much Mr. Letterman for honoring him this way. I know you do your weekly UA-cam video for fun and laughs. Is there a possibility that this week you could do a few minutes of funny Jerry Foley stories? RIP Jerry...
Wonderful tribute to Jerry. Sad - passed too young. ❤
Such a great tribute to a wonderful person! It was a pleasure being near him. RIP
I cannot process his passing means to the world. Thank you, Jerry.
Jerry does a great job here of summing up the thought processes of a creative technical person who loved working with a great team. Godspeed, Jerry.
Oh no. So glad I got to watch his work.
So sorry for your loss. Rest well, Mr. Foley.
So many don't realize folks like Jerry are the ones who helped Dave be able to do his show being as at ease as Dave could be. All of them greats who don't get the spotlight much, but thanks to Dave for pulling back that curtain on the show.
Wow! Jerry was an amazing person. He will be deeply missed.
Best show from those great people like him ....
What a lovely video. I was so sorry to hear of his passing.
RIP, Jerry
Wonderful and inspiring. This channel is really special for giving us all of this amazing talent.
A wonderful man, what a legacy. Such a well put together piece. Life is short.
Thank you Jerry. Rest In Peace
I'm sorry to hear your friend passed away. Clearly a great and talented human.
We should all be so lucky as to find a job we love and do it well.
A wonderful piece but so sad to hear this news. Mr. Foley lived his dream and it was wonderful to hear more about him and his background. Thank you Mr. Foley for all your contributions to all the shows you were involved with during your career. Condolences to his family, friends and coworkers.
I am so sorry for your loss. Praying for Jerry's family and friends.
Yes. More of this please.
One of my favorite moments in my time on camera at the Letterman Show was a remote I shot from the chicken place on the corner with Foley in my ear feeding me bits😊
Beautiful.
So sorry to hear of his passing. God's peace to his family and friends.
RIP, my friend. You loved making comedy so much, and I'll never forget our time together talking about the craft we loved.
You were old school in all the best ways. I can't believe you're gone, far too soon. Thank you for everything.
Legend.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Very Sorry to hear. RIP Jerry.
Quite possibly the show's own biggest fan, Jerry gave his all. R.I.P.
BEAUTIFUL Jerry. 😅
Good for you!!!!
Exactly why I watched the show. If only it would start up again
Lovely articulate man
RIP and condolences to you all
Love you Jerry! ❤️
Just beautiful
The best gig in the World!!
Jerry was and always will be a part of my family. I am sorry there wasn't time for me to get to know him better.
I feel lucky to have met him but am heartbroken as I look back on our last conversation - at the time I felt so certain there would be many more, in which I could spend a bit more time with someone who, looking back, had already become a role model. As a person and in the future a father, I will strive to be more like Jerry. The song at the end of this video really hit me. "I'll be seeing you" - I really do hope so.
Thank you for what you've done for both our families. I promise you I will be there for Quinn and Antea. You are leaving a huge gap and are irreplaceable, but I will do my best to fill it with support as much as I can.
Thank you Jerry. I'll be seeing you.
Val
I could comment this on nearly every staff video you post - this show made a ton of memories for me, I am thankful to everyone involved. My sister and I would stay up after my mom went to bed eating bananas with peanut butter and watching Letterman.
Lovely man. Lovely homage. RIP Jerry.
Interesting memories ❤❤❤❤❤ thank youuuuuu ❤❤❤❤
RIP what a wonderful life well done
RIP

@@S1L3NTG4M3R Thanks for sharing the information. Seems like a great guy.
:(
Passed away at 68, so unfair.
In my experience the technical director tends to carry a rookie production director in TV broadcasting. But yeah, it is difficult to jump from an operational role to a production role. Often you have to step back as a production assistant or assistant director before getting the director's position.
Great video y’all👍
❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Is it just me or did others expect a picture of Jerry with Dave in that montage? Dave paid a beautiful tribute on social media so they were clearly friends instead of just colleagues and the video is about the the late show with David Letterman...
I was gonna say the same thing. Of all the photos of Jerry with the crew, there were none with Dave.
RIP Jerry :(
"We're gonna close the segment with Jerry walking on the streets doing his business looking nonchalant but with a bit of a wistful look on his face."
"Sure thing, Jerry but two things: You are not the director here and it's a bad habit to refer to yourself in the second person."
Well *there's* your problem!
My God what a terrible way to die. Like Sonny Bono
a skiing accident in Vermont 🙏🏻
Is there a good way?
@@fluxcapacitor1621 yeah about 100 nice and peacefully in your sleep
A sking accident.
Guy never "worked" a day in his life... that's the goal. Find something that gives you joy and passion to do it. Don't know the man. But he lived the dream. My condolences to his family and his friends. RIP my good man.
My favorite bit of his was him contributing to Dave wanting to hear Eagles music. Absolutely legendary. A huge loss.
'I say we should play the music and see what happens."
RIP
