Airing very soon on @cbstv . The Producers decided to tell me I WON a Grammy while I was interviewing these two young ladies Lauren and Ava, that want to someday be president of the United States of America. I was flooded with a such a since of accomplishment and relief. I kinda didn’t know what to say. I just wanted to cry but I knew it would have confused the babies. So I decided to use that moment to teach and share my feelings. Thank you @recordingacademy for the honor. What a beautiful and powerful moment, to learn about her win with two little Black girls on stage with her.
@James Diaz She probably highlighted the point because it adds more weight and importance to her win, even with her album being good. It is also significant for her to point out when you consider no woman has won in the category since Whoopi won in '86. Often, it is not someone believing that what they have produced is not good. It is more about the struggle to get others to see that it is and be recognized for it.
@James Diaz I don't feel she limited herself or what she produced by mentioning being Black or Whoopi's win. Both are important to her and it makes sense for her to mention it because of the importance. It doesn't mean her album was not good. It actually demonstrates how significant her win is, along side Whoopi's 35 years ago.
@James Diaz I don't see that she made it more about her race. You do. Comedy has no color or race. Comedians do. A Black female comedian who did great work won. And seeing her joy, how she chose to express it, is hers. We get to appreciate her joy in as much as we get to appreciate her work.
