Verdi & Mussorgsky's opera choruses, by Coro Intermezzo

Operas with historical plots have often taken advantage of the possibilities the chorus provides for setting certain episodes. This occurs in some of Verdi’s works, including “Patria oppresa”, from Macbeth; the very well known “Va pensiero” from Nabucco and “Sì celebri alfine”, from I vespri siciliani (based on the bloody episode that led to the expulsion of the French from Sicily). In Boris Godunov, Mussorgsky does something similar to describe the events that occurred after the death of Ivan the Terrible, while Gounod revisits the story of Roméo et Juliette and includes fashionable choruses, such as the Capulets’ waltz.
