  • On Saturday, October 4, 2014 SPACEMELT performed with Tiny Pyramids at Sideshow Studios (15 West 2nd Avenue, Vancouver, Canada). This event celebrated the 5th anniversary since SpaceMelt's formation at the Banff Centre in 2009.
On this occasion, the cutting edge inter-arts ensemble planned their most ambitious melt to date with a stellar cast of Vancouver’s best musicians, visual artists and photographers alike.
Founded by Sam Davidson (clarinet & EWI), Michael Markowsky (visual art), and Terri Hron (recorder), Spacemelt attempts to fuse diverse artistic communities, deconstruct the barrier between performer and audience member, and reimagine the conventions of performance with reckless creative abandon.
In addition the evening featured the Tiny Pyramids, a trio comprised of Colin Cowan (bass), Dan Gaucher (drums) and Tyson Naylor (piano). Dedicated to the music and spirit of Sun Ra, the trio brought their trance inducing mantras to orbit the Spacemelt universe.
Other guests for the evening were Tim Barnard (visual art), Janice Cheung (visual art), Emilio Rojas (visual art), Meredith Bates (violin), Camille Hesketh (vocals) and Elen Marple (trombone). Special thanks to Mariachi Los Dorados for their surprise, unannounced performance (www.losdorados.ca)!

Tech Notes: Filming was done on a Canon 60D with old SLR Pentax lenses (mostly a 50mm f1.4), using an adapter so they fit the Canon body.
