My understanding is that he was approached about becoming a part of the new government after Hitler was removed. He declined to be involved in any way, but didn't inform Hitler about the plan to remove him.
i read a book about him years ago and that's what the book said.
That's what I was taught as well. It actually sounds very realistic. Rommel was a military man and was going to follow orders and be a good soldier, even though he didn't agree with what (Hitler) leadership was doing. "IF" somehow, leadership was going to be removed, he wouldn't alert them but he would continue to be a good soldier and support the new leadership.
Which means that he became a traitor, Hitler was his boss and he owed Hitler the fact of being famous and achieving his military glory, without Hitler and without the war that Hitler unleashed he would have been a nobody, so, he having knowledge that a plan was being cooked to "remove" (KILL) Hitler, his boss, and he not reporting that made him a traitor to his Hitler, his boss, traitors do not deserve to live.
He was destroyed by the evil he served.
General Erwin Rommel was a Great Military Strategist. Was he involved in the plot to kill Hitler? I'm sure he was aware of the plot. However, I don't believe he was a part of it, because he didn't want Hitler killed, only replaced. He was a very Brave Man, having made the decision to save his family & commit suicide. Personally, I think that Rommel should have chosen Options 1 or 2 & forced Hitler to try him for his supposed crime. This would have infuriated the German People & possibly caused Hitler to back off or even resign. Goebbels must have been scared to death of a possible Rommel Trial. Club-Footed Little Troll! In closing, Germany lost a Great Man & a Great General!
I think Rommel chose the 3rd option
Out of love 4 his family!
He knew What The SS was like
He knew the fate that awaited them.
As 4 going 2 trial
He knew How the ppl
Followed and Believed Hitler
And All that he said
He knew #3 was the ONLY Choice
You contradict yourself, you said: "I'm sure he was aware of the plot. However, I don't believe he was a part of it, because he didn't want Hitler killed, only replaced"....To be aware that a plan was being cooked to "remove" (KILL) Hitler, his boss, and he saying nothing, he backing off and standing by the side waiting for that plan to happen made him PART of that plan, that attitude made him a fucking traitor to Hitler who was his boss. Then you keep saying: "because he didn't want Hitler killed, only replaced", are you fucking kidding me?, Erwin Rommel was a general field marshal of the German army appointed by Hitler, Hitler promoted him, he was smart he was not stupid, he was not naive he KNEW that the ONLY WAY to "remove/replace" Hitler was KILLING Hitler, make no mostake on that, he KNEW that the plotters were going to KILL Hitler and he said nothing he did nothing he was a TRAITOR to Hitler the man who gave him the chance to become what he became.
😢
Famous for losing North Africa and Normandy?
Perhaps. However, like Donald Trump, I believe Hitler would never have accepted any defeat, as he really didn’t in the end. He killed himself to avoid that admission and what would subsequently follow. I said it in 2016 and I’ve said it since then. DT is a dangerous man as people in this country are prone to defend anyone who they believe is being disabused as DT is constantly droning on about his victimhood. The fact is that his supporters are substantially similar to those people in Germany who acquiesced and never acknowledged what Hitler was doing or tried to stop him. Should these supporters succeed in their efforts to return him to the presidency they will bring down on themselves and ALL of us the terrible fate of Hitler’s victims of WWII. WAKE UP AMERICANS.
Not the Phantom Division, but, The Ghost Division. They were the 7th Panzer Division (light division). From other things I have read Field Marshall Rommel only agreed to become the head of state after Hitler was either arrested or forced to step down.
Phantom /Ghost is the same in spanish
@@asintonic Am not spanish and don't speak the spanish language.
The Allies would have welcomed Rommel as Head of State as they thought he was sensible and could do business with him. Also, the German people were told he had succumbed to wounds inflicted by a Spitfire that strafed his car.

@@philjames6206no, they wouldn't. He would have stood trial. He most likely would have been found not guilty, be he would have been tried.

You'd think AI would learn how to pronounce words properly.
It's TTS, don't know why he has not switched to AI yet
I think it's only the second sentence barely a few seconds in... Africa corps... narrator pronounces it "corpse". Scroll to another video...
"Afrika Korpse" -- a corpse found in Africa.

@@helmuthj.zotter7272 never got past the first few sentences. Might’ve been a great video, I don't know. I struggle with AI narration. My problem, not theirs I guess.
Rommel played with the Hitler Fire, and he got burned.
I love this video Rommel was one of the few whow dared to even think about those things and in the end he was proven right maybe you could do a video on what happened to the german generals that sentenced Rommel to death also what religious denomination was Rommel catholic or protestant?
It' all on record. Look it up
Don't forget this man was an enthusiastic supporter of the Nazi regime and a naive admirer of Hitler until it became obvious the war was lost. He might have been a successful general but chose to swear allegiance to a monster.
Rommel was a great commander, father and family man. He really didn't get involved in politics, he treated his men with respect as he did his enemies. I did two research papers on him and even wrote to his son, Manfred, who was the Mayor of Stuttgart at the time. Manfred wrote me a very touching, hand written letter in return. I still have that letter 45 years later. It was also ironic that I was a platoon tank commander and executive officer when I was in the Army. It's interesting how life works.
If it wasn't for family Rommel would most definitely would have stood his ground.
I flew Rommels Son Manfred in 1989 as a guest of the 1st Armored Division Commanding General during an aerial inspection of the Forests damaged by a high wind storm. Afterwards we were invited to a lunch in the famous Faber- Castell " Schloß" in Nurnberg. Because he saw that I spoke fluent German, h was very open and friendly towards my questions about his Father, and how his family was treated after the Assassination attempt on Hitlers life. We talked almost 2 hours. Interesting for sure.
Better to have stayed in tunisia
With his troops at the surrender would have had first
Class treatment as a pow!
My father fought in WWII,he was in the Royal Navy, his elder brother was in North Africa, they all respected Rommel', and remember this, he was Soldier and Gentleman...NEVER A NAZI...
"he was Soldier and Gentleman...NEVER A NAZI..." Well, that would be like saying he was a Democrat, or in the Confederate Army, makes no difference, he was in an Evil group, so he turned a blind eye to what the Nazis were doing, says a lot about his character, or lack of it.
Yes he was. He was perfectly happy with how things were going and what was being done until the war was being lost.
The myth of the 'good wehrmacht' was created to justify the alliance with with Germany in the Cold War.
Right you are, a Nazi supporter is the same as a Nazi. @@aaropajari7058

The colourisation is a shambles
The General treated his subordinates as he treated his own son. He leads by example and doesn’t demand anything which he won’t do by himself thats why soldiers under him doesn’t only respect him but loves him and so as his captured enemies which they often attest of him. Salute to a Great General an officer and a Gentleman a Hero to the German People k!

Thank you.
one always hears of the cowardly Italians and their mass surrenders but not much is mentioned of the brits and 30000 surrenders at tobruk and 85000 at singapore.the germans surrendered 90000 at stalingrad. the soviets capitulated 310000 at smolensk and 600000 at kiev.( from ian w. walker, Iron Hulls,Iron Hearts )
The Italian soldiers were considered good fighters by the Germans, their commanders were terrible. Much like Lt. Gen. Arthur Ernest Percival at Singapore. Hitler caused the surrender at Stalingrad because he would not let the 6th Army withdraw to better positions.

Have an actual HUMAN do the narration, as there are innumerable mispronounciations!
And humans don't do that? Problem with these videos is quality control. Catch and correct the errors. Not enough time supposedly to do so. Just keep churning out mediocre materials. Apparently no extra pay for quality so why try?

"African Corpse" instead of Corps XD XD
The guy's native language is Spanish and is probably shy about narrating in English.

I read somewhere that in Africa, his second in command chastised him by his inclinations to throw his Infantry into the battlefield where the British artillery concentrated their fire, inflicting heavy casualties.
After the failed bomb explosion which Hitler survived, the SS began their attempts to uncover the plot’s participants. At this time, his former second in command “dropped a dime” on him, implicating him.
Rommel was probably responsible for killing hundreds of thousands of people during his military career, but he and his fellow assassins were so incompetent that they didn't seem to know how much TNT it would take to turn Hitler into a vapor.
The Trail of The Fox by David Irwing - Excellent book. Correct. Rommel had nothing to do with the plot but some other high staff member did and to save his ass he pointed fingers at Rommel.

Thank you for your kind and informative reply.
I also read when Rommel was attacking the British, the Axis wanted to bomb Malta into submission.
Rommel told them to forget about it as conquering Alexandria would force the British to leave North Africa.
Malta was the key base for the Allies to bomb, torpedo and sink Axis shipping carrying needed reinforcements, tanks, munitions and gasoline to Rommel’s Afrika Army and is considered the key reason why he was defeated by Montgomery.
@@richpontone1but they bombed the hell out of Malta? The reason Rommel lost was it was just a sideshow for Hitler and Germany poured almost all of their resources into Russia.
With Guderian and Keitel deciding that it was mainly Rommel involved in the plot and not Speidel (Rommel's chief of Staff at the time of the plot), I'd say that Speidel managed to cover up his tracks and switch all the blame on Rommel. Regarding that Rommel wuite liked him and trusted him, I reckon that was a bad case of betrayal from Spiedel.
Speidel was more culpable... Stuelpnagel blurted out Rommel name
That's right. But it was Caesar von Hofacker did mention Rommel's name clearly when interrogated by the Gestapo. @@moshedayan2810

Rommel was part of British proper gander as they did not want a new General who knew what they were doing, but it made him popular with everyone, but worked in the long run. Erich von Manstein would have been a different matter.
A British what??
As with most 2nd world war stories, we will never be able to separate truth from fiction.
The Germans an Japanese lost. End of story
I think in that tin head of yours. You are completely missing the point.

Rommel thought Germany should sue for peace after Stalingrad (early 1943). His troops loved him and the British respected him. If I end up in Valhalla, Rommel will be at the top table and I shall get him a large Schnapps!
I visited his grave just outside Ulm a few times
some people think its because he lost north africa
AI SUX
Unfortunately , Rommel was batting for the wrong team.
He should have been fighting side by side with Montgomery , against his true enemy , Adolf .
I never understood why non-party members of the Nazi's , who were serving in the military , fought with them , even though they had no inner sense of loyalty to the Fuhrer himself 🤔
The way the UK is now , at 66 years young , were I younger , I'm buggered if I'd fight for this country , unless it literally was a choice between the better of two evils .
Were I in Israel though , that would be a different matter .
Gid bless Israel 🇮🇱♥️

He knew the war was wrong
Another wonderful historical coverage video about infamous ( Marshall Rommel🫡) the man remained faithfulness and fulfilled to Germany and Vermacht institutions by what he had of military skill until his forced suicide. He had practical and accurate evaluation when he told Manstein (another measurement as an option for rescued Germany ). But Manstein refused and ignored Marshall Rommel suggested .he saved his family honorary.

Model did more for the war effort... Manstein too.
Rommel was great yeah i just dont get why he gets so much merit.
Model was an self-centered overrated general who was terribly unimaginative on the offense, as seen by his efforts in Zitadelle and others. He was a decent defensive general. He was a favorite of Hitler because he was an avowed Nazi through-and-through.
It's part of the myth. Yes he revolutionized tactics in WW1 by contributing to storm trooper doctrine. WW2 he helped pioneer how blitzkrieg would be implemented with shock tactics he learned from WW1.

This is not true. It was Gudarian who translated British General Fullers tank tactics into German with his own money and used them to great affect. General Fuller was the only foreigner invited to Hitlers birthday parade in 1939 by the fuhrer personally. Hitler watched the hours long parade with Fuller and asked him:
'what he thought of his children' as hundreds of tanks roared past the window.
Rommel was actually an Infantry officer and wrote a book on infantry tactics, not armoured warfare.
Rommel, like Patton, knew how to use PR and play the press.
@@stischer47
Rommel was Hitlers golden boy and was the subject of much manufactured propoganda. Many of the familiar photographs of him looking out across the desert through his binoculars were actually painstakingly posed and taken by his official camera crew. Also Patton was lucky to have a very popular film made about him with an excellent performance by George C Scott. Many people seem to think it is a documentary.

Rommel was overated
Was he a hero though ? He took an oath, you don’t plot to kill the King.
He wasn't actively part of the conspiracy to kill Hitler. He simply wanted him removed from office. The worst that can be said about Rommel is that he was aware of (and possibly supported) a plot without knowing the details & said nothing.
You do if the King leads your country into ruin. Even the samurai, who swore absolute loyalty to their shogun, would choose suicide to carrying out orders that harmed their country...like Rommel did.
“RENDER UNTO CEASER THINGS THAT ARE DUE CEASER AND RENDER UNTO GOD THE THINGS THAT BELONG TO GOD!”. Rommel was not perfect, but in the end he tried to do what was right! As the Nurenberg trials proved beyond a doubt following horrendous immoral orders is NEVER justified, therefore by opposing Hitler--Rommel did what was proper!
He was a Die Hard Nazi
No matter what he was a traitor and got off easy.
I suppose he should have kept on leading the Nazis in killing Allied soldiers? Do you still have the swastika tattooed on your forehead?
