I feel people like you were playtesting this game during the development so we got this CBT simulator. And it's still like 20% of the OG rayman difficulty, these PS era platformers were brutal. year later but congrats on PB and WR!
The "submarine jump" or "subjump" technique is awesome. If you spin before falling off a ledge, you have 10 frames after the spin finishes to get a midair jump.
Thank you! Sub 1h at the moment isn't really feasible. But in the future with enough optimizations and strats found it could maybe be viable. I definitely won't say never on that one. Still a little ways to go before implementing double jumps haha

The Japanese version moved a few colored gems around, and the one that specifically matters for a 100% run is that the red gem was moved from Slippery Climb to The Lost City. Lost city ) I am not familiar with the Japanese version, are there any special features about this? In other versions, you can't take a gem and you will suck biba if you die at least once. What is the benefit of a strategy like yours? Thanks)
Thank you! Dying resets the global timer that many of the games cycles run on (e.g. pushing walls, spike pistons). This is fine because the gem is only locked upon dying after a checkpoint has been broken Japanese version is faster because Road To Nowhere can be completed in one visit. This is because the red gem was moved to an earlier stage.

huge Crash Bandicoot fan here, first time approaching to speedrunning it. I have some questions: why in some levels you straight up die at the beginning? is that for resetting some in-level cycles, making it faster overall through the level? Also why didn't this prevent you to get the gem? I thought you have to beat it deathless to get the gem, maybe it doesn't count if no checkpoints have been taken before the death?
Hi Correct. Dying resets the game's global timer that many (not all) of the game's cycles run on. This allows for you to arrive when they're in better positions and can be exploited even earlier than the target level itself. You can actually die and still get the gem as long as you have not broken a checkpoint crate. This is a quality-of-life mechanic as it doesn't change much for the player to have to go back to the map in that case. Sadly, this isn't the case for Crash 2 and 3's skull route platforms. I'll also point out a piece of fun trivia: The Japanese version actually allows you to get gems even if you died after breaking a checkpoint. However, the boxes all respawn and it is never faster to go back and break them again if you die. So, it doesn't change much!
Hah yeah... and i can see their point of view "Let's move that top 3 lvl in terms of difficulty and put another top 3 lvl in its place, it changes everything"@@Tebt_W
100% runs of this game are faster on the Japanese version because the red gem was moved to an earlier level allowing us to cut a visit to Road to Nowhere.
You do the level without deaths and all the boxes,in reality, this is the ntsc j one, meaning a half of the high road was cut, slippery climb and sunset vista swap places in the map,and hog wild has the green gem,and the lost city the red gem, instead of slippery climb.
Why is it that sometimes when you collect a mask some text appears? Why does Sunset Vista run save so much time? What are the most difficult levels to speedrun? I assume Castle Machinery is one of them. Great run, I watched only gently rewinding at some points. Bravo!
- The mask text is a new hint thing added in the Japanese version - Sunset Vista had new strats, my previous PB messed them up - Cortex Power is one of the hardest to do fast Thanks!

How come you use the Japanese version?
The jap version switches the location of two levels that lets you get a colored gem early and makes it so you don’t have to revisit one of the levels
Some of the special gems have been rearranged in the Japanese version which allows for less / faster backtracking than the way they original were.

Only Cortex's bonus rounds are required as those award a key. Also, boxes don't count for anything in the bonuses.

This is how the music sounds in the Japanese version.
Congratulations, it would be good if you put the camera in control to learn that damn zip zagging.🤣🤣🤣
What was the reason why Slippery Climb was moved to the 2nd island in this version?
It was probably because Sunset Vista was too tough to be put that early
