I've owned this air purifier for a month or so and it works great. I finally opened it up tonight to check the filters and the pre filter was super dusty. I just vacuumed it for now and I'll wash it this weekend. Thanks for the video. It's a great air purifier.
Thank you for this helpful video! After 14 months of continuous use, the air filter light is not coming on, but I just opened the cover and saw that the pre-filter was filthy! Super easy to vacuum off the dust, and I don't have to wait for anything to dry (but I might try rinsing later). I replaced the HEPA and carbon filters, and wanted to double-check that I replaced the HEPA filter facing the right way (air flow pointing inwards). I guess the pull-tabs make it obvious too.

I wasn't sure about washing the carbon filter, but your demonstration convinced me. I used your link to purchase. Thanks

I vacuum my two outer filters on the first and fifteenth of the month, they are always dusty. I just use my two Winix air purifiers to clean dust from the bedroom area we don't have odors or pets.
The carbon filter is what makes it. The HEPA part of that 2-part filter only lasts about 4 months because it gets so dirty so quickly. Right? WRONG!! The HEPA part of that 2-filter system does indeed last about a year, however upon a cursory inspection the filter looks dirty only after a few months making you think you've purchased a money pit. But upon very close inspection it seems as if it is merely dark from shadows and in reality it is very clean!!! So, the claim from the manufacturer is on the money. btw, this one particular air purifier is the very best ever made if for no other reason than for the real carbon pellets instead of just a "carbon" filter. Maybe a silly thing but a placed a carbon filter on my pre-filter, also there is not enough of a seal between the sides of the filter media and its housing, I use the same strips of carbon filter as a gasket to make the fit tighter.

@Thor2021 Ishere yeah no I was talking about the washable pre filter not the carbon one. I’m pretty sure the carbons cleaning power comes from it being porus and eventually that porus ness wears off.

Hi I have 5300-2 (A) and thinking of buying 5500-2 (B). The carbon filter in (A) is not washable but replaceable. Is the carbon filter in (B) really washable? If so, how many times you can wash it before throwing it away? Is there a spare (extra) one that comes with the 5500-2 unit in the box? Finally, is there a good reason to buy 5500 rather than 5300 (except for the remote)? Just subscribed.
Do Not "wash" your charcoal filter using a water hose... your carbon filter will only clean the water instead of "getting cleaned". You can "recondition" a charcoal filter using 9~10% hydrogen peroxide or distilled de-ionized water and baking it around 225 F for an hour or two. Heat causes the trapped particles to be released so baking in your home oven will only release what you have trapped back into your house, so unless you can vent it directly outside there are diminishing returns if you do not "recondition" properly.
Do you know anything about the light sensor? Or if it even has one. Cause at night my unit is stuck on auto/night mode and I can’t take night mode off. So now I think the smart sensor doesn’t work cause I blew smoke into it and it’s not working anymore.

It's supposed to also be better for smoke ( dam neighbor) lol
@@pamelavance648 Smokers are the WORST:(
@@pamelavance648 agreed. I have 2 of this same model and they have worked WONDERS in my home! Bought a 2nd unit after the apartment I had lived in had smoke and all kinds of odors coming from my neighbor's apt and it really helped! Between my service dog, my immune and lung problems (I'm terminal and on oxygen 24/7), and allergies, this is an awesome purifier for the price! And, the fact that you can wash 2 of the filters and replace the carbon and HEPA once a year makes it convenient AND affordable as opposed to the 5300 model.
Mine didn’t come with that carbon filter
Is yours for the 5500-2 model? I know the 5300-2 look very similar and have a different carbon filter.
How often u do this?
Every 14 days for the Pre-filter and every three months for the Carbon Filter. I let mine run 24/7 on Auto. The machine also have a filter reminder light to let you know if it detect the filter is dirty. See page 13 for manufacture suggested filter care.

The only thing winix is doing fundamentally wrong is filters order
@marilyn8700 I know that it is counterintuitive. Prefilter is for HEPA protection. Carbon is for gases only, contaminating with dust will drastically reduce its surface area
I couldn't stand that you had 666 likes! Bad voodoo. So...I just made it 667, I hope you feel better, I certainly do!! Nice video by the way!
throw some grass seed over those cigarette butts...lol
$40 for new filters god damn.
Just got this in the mail. Opened it up, won't even turn on. Junk!!!
Bro you house isn't even dusty
Talk to soft can't hear
Do these always come with a carbon filter? Mine seems to be mossing
Thanks very much!
Thank you!
