The setting of Gringo Ndiani was in the surburbs of Harare in the early 2000s commonly referred to as maDale Dale. The background to the scene on 4:34 depicts the infrastructure degradation that was starting to manifest in most parts of the country from the late 90s and early 2000s. With potholes evident in the background. It is interesting to see how people used to link up in the periods before the proliferation of social media and mobile phone technology. Gweshe Gweshe was a well off man, living in the affluent surburbs with a salary capable of employing a garden boy and a maid. A lifestyle which also impacted on his 'typical' spoiled daughter Anna. Gweshe gweshe and his wife represented a typical working class couple in Zimbabwe of the late 90s.The character Gringo was phenomenal to say the least. To say that the man was a risk taker is an understatement. He seemingly complicated his life with split second decisions but somehow managed to weave himself out of any situation through a combination of trickery and crookery, emerging unscathed at the other end.
