I know they are on the older side and coming from a culture which is more on the conservative side. Still. I kinda understand if it comes from a place of "I am worried about you" but when people express this sort of things it is usually from over possessiveness or "I own your body" mentality which is toxic. Like "don't wear this nice outfit outside cause guys will be attracted to you". Of course, it is also about TPO. Don't wear a bikini at church, people. But since this was an event where people dress up and so many people are around like that, you can just accompany your girlfriend and have fun together. Let's dress up together. So what if other people are interested in us? We are the one in a close relationship, not them. I believe in self expression the most (to a healthy extent of course) so this sort of thing really ticks me off. If my girlfriend wants to be half naked for a cosplay or wear a nice miniskirt, I will support her and tell her how good she looks in it.
