Thank you for this. I struggled opening my plain weave rows when I got my pebble rows on the heddles. I didn’t pull up on the heddles. I was trying to work around them 🤦🏻♀️
When weaving a pattern row, do you always bring up the dark (unheddled) threads first, place a stick, and then the light (heddled) threads? Does it not alternate as in plain weaving?....heddled, then unheddled and so on? I hope this question makes sense. Thank you Marion
Yes, with pattern rows you always start with the dark yarns (unheddled). The pebble rows always start with the light yarn (heddled). Because the pebble rows are in the string heddles, you don’t really see that you start with the light yarns.
When you are warping your loom, do you put your pattern threads in the heddles or the background threads ? I've found people saying the light is always heddled and the light is always heddled - but since my patterns will vary, it is most important to know if it's background or pattern that's heddled. :)
Linda Potts For warping, every other yarn gets a heddle. In the description of the video you can find a link to the pattern I used, including the warp scheme.
Hi, Marion. I'm on Ravelry as Cookie48. I like your videos on Pebble Weaving on an Inkle Loom. I love the way you use the popsicle sticks to separate the light and dark colors and how you created the heddles that separates the two color groups. What type of yarn you used in your demo? Are you using a Schacht Inkle Loom? The more I see this brand the more I want to get one although I have Inkle Looms.Thank you again for translating your printout on Pebble Weaving in English. Wished I knew German, but I don't.
Andrea Livingston-Shuman Thank you I use Schachenmayr Catania. Yes, I have a Schacht inkle loom. The downside of the Schacht is that the space you have to weave gets smaller when you have to adjust the tension.
The pebble rows are in the string heddles. For this pattern it is possible to make string heddles for the pattern rows. But usually the pattern rows are different every time. That’s why you will have to select every pattern row by hand.
Pebble weaving is possible with card weaving. I have not tried pebble weaving with cards yet. I am not sure if it is possible to make this design with cards, sorry.
Doing this particular pattern with pebble weaving seems a bit pointless. It would be massively easier with conventional tablet weaving. I don't if this is true for other pebble weave patterns, but for zig zag lines it will always be.
whoobitt Because the pattern rows are not always the same. In this pattern the pattern rows are sometimes the same. But with more difficult patterns, it is never the same.
So in this pattern, 4 would work. But in a more complicated pattern, with more rows that are different, you would need too many for it to be worthwhile?
whoobitt in this pattern it could work. But the extra heddles take a lot of space. So it will depend on your loom if it will work. With more difficult patterns, it won't work.

You made a very good video thank you Marion
Alison Faure Thanks
Dank je wel voor de uitleg, zie weer een uitdaging komen.
Amazing marion! This is os going to help me alot!

If I want a wider band, can I simply warp more threads according to the pattern?
AllyneMH yes that is possible.

Why not make 4 sticks if the 2 other lines are normal pebble row so all 4 are predone?
The pebble rows are in the string heddles. For this pattern it is possible to make string heddles for the pattern rows. But usually the pattern rows are different every time. That’s why you will have to select every pattern row by hand.
Could you do the same pattern with tablet or card weaving??
Pebble weaving is possible with card weaving. I have not tried pebble weaving with cards yet. I am not sure if it is possible to make this design with cards, sorry.

I made this small design to explain the technique.
Not everybody knows how to do card weaving, then it is nice to learn pebble weaving with heddles.
Why not just make 4 of the sticks with heddles on them instead of 2?
whoobitt Because the pattern rows are not always the same. In this pattern the pattern rows are sometimes the same. But with more difficult patterns, it is never the same.
