  • Germany cuts development spending. What is at stake? Watch the new episode 99SecondsWith Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge.
The federal budget of Germany amounts to 445.7 billion euro in 2024. Of these, 11.5 billion euro will now be used for international cooperation and development, and this is done in a careful mix of solidarity based and self interest based considerations. We seek partnerships in order to support
societies in the dealing with crises in fighting poverty and social inequalities and stabilizing food systems, and fighting social polarization processes, that run the risk of destabilizing whole regions.
We invest into the transformation of our production systems, into the battle against challenges such as climate change and the biodiversity crisis. And we do this as an export nation within Europe that has always been depending on good collaborations, on partnerships across the globe; and as part of the search towards a multipolar world in which we continue to constructively collaborate with each other in the interest of a common, peaceful and sustainable future.
