Not really, I'm a nurse and by no means rich. The key for us regular working folks is to go with a group; I'm going for the 4th of July next year (I just booked the house this week, and put down a deposit) with three other girlfriends, so once you split the cost between 4 or 5 people, it can before more affordable. The other key is to book 6 months to a year in advance; You're only required to put down a deposit (about half the total cost) when you book the property, and then you pay the balance the month before you arrive. So by booking months in advance, you have several months to save up for the rest of the deposit and spending money! DO IT!!

I lived on the Cape during the 70's, (Yarmouth, Dennis) and returned maybe 5 years ago. Boy are you right. I hardly recognized the place.
