But then within the next few hours or days they won't let in any foreigners or only let in certain kinds of foreigners.
Yes, unfortunately people with darker skin tones are discriminated against the most in South Korea, heard many stories. For example, I wanted to attend the last BTS concert so badly taking place in Korea, but if you didn't win the lottery concert ticket, they made it impossible for foreigners to get a chance to obtain a ticket. What we found out is when it was time for the public sale (for Korean interpark and Global interpark) they blocked the foreign IPs and log you out to make sure you can't make it but definitely, the Korean website version didn't have all those issues and is designed in a way you lose less time for a booking. So in this case like any clever person, I thought I would use the Korean website version with a translator...no no no they made it in a way that this is also impossible for foreigners to use it as they ask for residence verification, social security etc. I also tried to rent a car, I could see that the websites for international people and speak English were renting cars for £114 when if you translate a rental car company with a Korean website it was actually £23...no comment I also had a got on these shitty apps saying they are in English version but you can't look it up in English or with difficulties as it's either doesn't come up or coming up in Korean like naver, KaKao map/taxi etc. I thought it was just quite sad as it seems they want to open up to the world but when you go there it's as if we are not wanted there
Koreans love traveling to other countries as tourist and possibly living in those countries, and are well accepted. But the Koreans may not like foreigners like ex-pats and tourist living in and or visiting their country........
Frankly from what I can tell all the cultures of Korea, China, and Japan have the same problem of racism and discrimination towards foreigners. In a rather blunt way. I was sometimes very much taken aback when in China by their attitudes, but at that time assumed it was due to the Chinese being so cut off from most of the world. There was no question it was racist. Since then I have heard too many similar stories from Korea and Japan not to think that this is part of some of the larger and generally shared culture that they have. The same way that while European countries may have very varied individual cultures, they also have a general shared culture that they are part of in the region. What I have found, is while there may be a difference in how it is expressed and to what degree, in all 3 countries there is some sense of this racial and cultural superiority. The irony is that at the same time they are extremely sensitive to any perceived slight or "non-acceptance" when abroad due to them being from wherever they are, or they credit the welcome with how impressed the world is by their nationality and race. As if the reason X got treated the way they did was either because of discrimination or because we admire the Chinese/Koreans/Japanese so much for their innate and superior ability. The fact that they can't see their own discrimination and the utter hypocrisy of it is something I always find shocking. I also think that the reason that many people don't want to call out S. Korea and Japan in the same way as China, has to do with the type of people who go there. Most go to these countries full of positive expectations of experiencing a new culture they admire, and don't want to see the negatives. Even if they do see and admit they exist, they will often rationalize and excuse them. Or just not comment at all. Most of this type of foreigners are afraid of seeming culturally insensitive in calling it out.
Well said. If only I stayed there longer I would probably try to go to all these clubs around Seoul but this time put a microphone on my body and ask my friend to video record the whole thing at the entrances, how they deny and how they make up various excuses to deny entry. I’m sure it would be one of those videos that could explode on UA-cam, or at least accumulate enough views to raise awareness. There are more than 2 million foreigners staying in South Korea, I hope someone does this.

Lol, the Chinese are far from racist. They are some bad eggs but nothing like Korea. Most Chinese are friendly and curious about foreigners. Japanese are bit cold to foreigners but they value courtesy, respect. In Korea you will get none of this unless you are white. Even then there are exceptions like this video.
@@sara.cbc92 I have been to China. While subjective, that was not my experience. Nor the experience of many other people I spoke to. It was so blatant and accepted that ANY non-Chinese person was somehow a lesser different species of human at times that it could be shocking. Sure they could be very curious at the same time, but in the same way and attitude that an uppity city person might be about the weird habits of country folk. Of course not every person I met was like that, but more than enough to make it a common daily experience. To be fair, Chinese at least have an excuse for the ignorance that is the root cause for this, they are a large country that is mostly inward looking and has been cut off for most of the population in living memory from real knowledge of the rest of the world. S. Korea and Japan can't claim the same.
MY ADVICES AGAINST RACIST PLACES: When a country or a province or a state of a particular country is racist, just BOYCOTT THEM! - DO NOT invest there! - do not study there (so that you won’t give them your money) - Do not buy products from that country (so that you will not boost their economy) - Do not tell your friends to vacation there either (so they will lose clients) NOW… - build a blog or a blog or an article that describes HOW BAD that place is (it can be a city, a night club, a country or even a province of a country) so that more people will know and won’t come!!!! - Rate them in google by giving them the star they deserve and leave comments so that customers would see how bad it is! - And make this blog FLY!!!!!!

Korea used to be a country where drugs could neither be manufactured nor purchased. However, I heard that these days, there are rigorous crackdowns on foreigners because some unscrupulous individuals have been bringing in various drugs and selling them in entertainment districts with many clubs and bars.
I will have to go to Korea next year for 2 weeks of research. Been to many Asian & European countries without facing racism but if Korea is this racist, I think I need to reconsider the plan 🤔
Yes, many clubs deny entry only to foreign men. I guess it’s because most of these places are controlled by men: owners, managers, security staff, bouncers etc are all korean men, so when they see foreign men they most likely just feel bad about the possibility of local girls liking foreigners over local guys. I guess it’s a mix of racism + male jealousy, mostly jealousy in this case. Don’t see other reasons why they would deny foreign men only.
They sexually assault foreign women, even spiking their drinks with rohypnol and other date rape drugs. That's why they let foreign women in with no males to protect them. Read about the Burning Sun scandal. K-pop megastars were even drugging women and letting Korean and Chinese VIPs rape unconscious girls at the club.
Bc foreign women don’t cause as much trouble as foreign men do (especially US military). Another reason is bc foreign girls are popular which will attract more men and make them spend money on drinks/tables
Your video is a good warning for foreigners. The long and short of it all is, it's their country, clubs are privately owned establishments, and they have the right to deny entry to who they want. There are other clubs that take foreigners, go there. You can't expect all countries to have the same freedoms most western countries enjoy. I vacationed in South Korea last year. I stayed away from places that are known to discriminate and I only went to the many other awesome places in SK. As a foreigner, I had the time of my life. But yeah, the clubbing scene, not all places welcome foreigners.
Foreigners will not be able to enter MOST of the clubs in Gangnam and Itaewon. Of course you will be able to find some clubs here and there which will allow you to enter, but those are usually small and not good quality ones. The best ones such as Octagon, Aura, Mass, Made, etc, the ones your Korean friends will tell you about, those will not let you in unless you are Korean.
@@brucemartin---27m61 Thank you for the answer. It wasn't this strict before COVID. I think this has something to do with many COVID regulations that made clubs to change their policies. Maybe there will be a few changes in near future.
Aura in Hongdae will let you in. Made in Hongdae stopped letting foreigners in like 5 months back. In Itaewon Fountain/Atelier is a really nice place to go and they allow foreigners. Waikiki and the Spanish club are also foreigner friendly. Oh this is really bad if true. Here in the States, I've noticed that Korean Americans have been the loudest group in voicing their concerns with racism! I kinda assumed they'd be the least racist ethnic group of all...then again I haven't had much contact with Koreans here in the Deep South to know for sure. Interesting video. Gotta investigate more into this!
It is sad that foreigners are discriminated against, but iv heard that they are doing this because, sadly, they have had so many incidents where foreigners have caused disturbances, this has made them reluctant to accept foreigners.
Nice try. You do know there is no excuse for racism, right? Because now all one place has to say is “well, we’ve had trouble with them” whether it’s true or not, and people like you will eat it up. If they’ve had issues with foreigners, then don’t play our music inside either. But they won’t do that.
Eh! Did I make reference to a particular group of people? Did I say something racist?. You need to read my post again. To infer, i dont understand what racism is, is rude and uncalled for. I merely pointed out that "l had heard." " I heard." The main problems were caused by the American soldiers, which is why they nightclubs can be reluctant to allow foreigners in. By not allowing foreigners in is not racist, it is caution, and duty of care for the rest of the people you are catering for.
But she right so... like she said nice try. Love our culture, hate our people. This is also true for other foreigners but we'll let them speak for themselves. Well, should Canadians be able to ban Asians? I mean some Vietnamese have been in gangs and shootings in Vancouver. Using your logic, yes. The clubs also ban black women. Black women haven't done anything in bars. And banning all foreigners because of some incidents is ridiculous. You've also had restaurants refuse foreigners, even though nothing happens at restaurants. You're excusing racism.
Listen. This is quite normal in South Korea. It's all about profit, not racism. There are even some clubs that do not allow you in if you look older than 30, whether you are a local or a foreigner. Clubs wants to maintain their image, and the type of clientels they cater to. Unfortunately, despite your good looks,, you are not it. On the flip side, there are clubs frequented by foreigners, but local MEN are not allowed entry.
Koreans are also often denied entry. However, Koreans follow the rules so they don't have a problem, but foreigners think it's racism. There were cases of refusal of entry to certain countries, but it was because men from certain countries sexually assaulted Korean women in the club. I hope you don't misunderstand.

This is why when I hear people say that Koreans don’t know when they are being racist i immediately respond in disagreement. They know exactly what they are doing because their intentions are deliberate.
Club owners want to avoid the risk of trouble between foreigners and Koreans. Koreans can be punished according to domestic law, but foreigners can be a diplomatic problem, so it is complicated. In fact, a few years ago, many Chinese and U.S. soldiers caused trouble at clubs in Gangnam, where police were dispatched and sales decreased. Foreigners were drunk and rioted with the Korean police and ignored local laws. Many countries in East Asia are not yet open like the West. I hope that this perception will improve over time. It is a matter of lack of trust. there may be misunderstandings about these issues.
And the best clubs in Gangnam are the pinnacle of capitalism. They actively utilize discriminatory marketing. Even Koreans cannot enter the club depending on their appearance and financial resources. Most such top-of-the-line clubs start with a combination of domperignon and other champagne at least $80000. You have to be famous or Vip to enter a place like this.

I have been to all those clubs many times too, since 2014 until the last time in 2018, every time I visited Seoul I had no issues entering. It was only now that they started with these discrimination policies. I guess it’s because of some new regulations they might have made during the pandemic. With that being said, I always heard about this discrimination towards foreigners here and there, especially toward people of darker skin tones.
Figured your $$ would be worth more to them, I guess it shows salaries rising in Asia in general. I heard about Japan where if you sit on the underground as a foreigner no one wants to sit next to you and will actually get up and move

I talk to Korean club managers and bars about this issue, they all said the reason for this happening is that many Korean girls feel intimated by foreign men in the bar and also in the club. Also, foreigners don't spend much money in the clubs.
Just in a Busan club. The manager said that it was becoz the Indians and Pakistanis fight with each other becoz of the history their share. The club later removed the banner from the club and said that they were fined. Now they have a banner that says foreigners not allowed.

I wanna see you try to enter a hot spot club in any metropolitan regions like NYC or LA, with: 1- no girls 2- no money 3- likely not dressed 4- no table 5- no connects Unless you're a supermodel or BTS you're not getting in these big clubs for free or even with a fee. Next time, why don't you try to bring 1 or 2 girls and watch how the bouncers will let you instantly. Clubs have to maintain a right ratio of men and women in order to draw the big fish spenders who are the only reason the club operates without a loss in the first place. 2 foreigners who are likely not going to spend (if you were going to spend you would've paid for a table), brings 0 value to the club. Even 2 Korean men that have no money and look mid to put bluntly isn't going to get in by waiting in line. And the fact that you're trying to pin this on racism shows the true nature of this issue. Clearly, you've never been clubbing in the US if you say other countries don't deny entry to people like this.

- do not study there (so that you won’t give them your money)
- Do not buy products from that country (so that you will not boost their economy)
- Do not tell your friends to vacation there either (so they will lose clients)
NOW…
- build a blog or a blog or an article that describes HOW BAD that place is (it can be a city, a night club, a country or even a province of a country) so that more people will know and won’t come!!!!
- Rate them in google by giving them the star they deserve and leave comments so that customers would see how bad it is!
- And make this blog FLY!!!!!!

@@brucemartin---27m61 It's from bad experience with US soldiers.
They don't let Black Women in. Nope! It's not just a male thing
Daegu is no different. The clubs and bars weren’t friendly to foreigners.

So foreigners can't go to any club in seoul? Even in Itaewon and Hongdae?
I don't think that's the case.
@@derikmendez333 We went to fountain, fountain is like at least 70% foreigners, clearly catered to foreigners. We also went to Prost, a nice place, entered with no issues, it’s close to Waikiki.
I merely pointed out that "l had heard."
" I heard." The main problems were caused by the American soldiers, which is why they nightclubs can be reluctant to allow foreigners in. By not allowing foreigners in is not racist, it is caution, and duty of care for the rest of the people you are catering for.
So just ban all foreigners ? For the mistake of American soldiers that sounds about right yeah....@@lindasmith3135
Poor guy. May the Lord bless him!
Stop this shit...stop justifying this nonsense...
Koreans are also often denied entry. However, Koreans follow the rules so they don't have a problem, but foreigners think it's racism.
There were cases of refusal of entry to certain countries, but it was because men from certain countries sexually assaulted Korean women in the club.
I hope you don't misunderstand.

Yes

With that being said, I always heard about this discrimination towards foreigners here and there, especially toward people of darker skin tones.

I wanna see you try to enter a hot spot club in any metropolitan regions like NYC or LA, with:
1- no girls
2- no money
3- likely not dressed
4- no table
5- no connects
Unless you're a supermodel or BTS you're not getting in these big clubs for free or even with a fee.

The racism Racism is a sensitive subject especially in our time, but exactly what's the meaning of racism . the racism is the belief that another person is less than human -- because of skin color, language, customs, place of birth, religion or any factor that supposedly reveals the basic nature of that person. In the religion of Islam there is no racism because all people are equal . The messenger of Allah, Muhammad said: لا فرق بين عربي و لا أعجمي و لا أبيض ولا أسود إلا بالتقوى" حديث شريف" it means that there is no difference between Arabic and not Arabic People and between white or black person, but except in piety.( believing in god and doing good deeds and to move away from evil deeds , Obedience to Allah ....) It is shortly the view of el Islam about racism ,so what do you think about racism?

People have this habit of taking their expectations, from wherever they live, and applying it to where they travel and get upset when they are not met. American’s have this really bad but this young man is from China. Other countries don’t owe you anything. They have their own Culture and laws. Do your research before you go and if you do not enjoy yourself do not go back. Any amount of research wld have brought up red flags and he and his friends wld had gone visiting somewhere else and cld have had a good time. Instead they just showed up, got what they got and now complaining on UA-cam about Racism.
