Her and Sutherland were the main reason why I hardly listened to light voiced sopranos in the these operas. There's this type of power in their voices that I can feel from their singing. Just amazing. Tried going back to the lighter voices, but alas, it was too late. 💐💐💐💐💐
As always, she's sublime ❤ On the matter of it being “just a rehearsal” this level of performance is supposed to be above and beyond every time you do it. It's incredible but that's how it was when I was in the school orchestra and when we were getting ready to perform operas. We had music teachers who had all been professional musicians and the standard was always high. By the time we were close to opening there weren't really any mistakes on the musical front, it was with costumes and sets, but not the music. I know. Big difference between Maria Callas and my high school in a Sydney beachside suburb too many decades ago. We just didn't go into a production unless cast, chorus and orchestra were all aok. But the music is why everyone is there, together, performing. And, Callas was a perfectionist, as we know

Purtroppo credo che anche questo sia stata una delle cause del suo troppo precoce declino vocale. La Callas sempre eccelsa.
