Flying Fire Ant Queens Broke Into My Giant Rainforest Vivarium

  • A swarm of fire ants had a nuptial flight in my home. The Crimson Knights, my ravenous pet fire ant colony living on their open-concept, volcanic island ant farm, called Volcania, decided to spontaneously launch a nuptial flight, i.e. an annual ant breeding event. Usually captive ant colonies don't have nuptial flights indoors, but this fire ant colony unexpectedly did, and the escaped fire ant queens and males were everywhere. What was worse was that a pregnant queen ant may have gotten into my giant ecosystem vivarium, Pantdora, which if so, would be disasterous for my ecosystem project. But I had a wicked solution! Hope you enjoy this Season 2, Episode 12 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

To bad you didn't catch the Mantis building the egg sack. You need to get yourself a CCTV setup for constant recording. You can run up to 16 cameras running at the same time with one PC. Monitoring movement or time lapse. Or any other trigger to start recording. They are not that expensive to set up. Last years hardware works just fine. You should build this into your server rack for your NAS. If you don't have one yet.

Mantises have a VERY long gestation period, anywhere from 6-18 months. They aren't laying eggs perse, but goop that will start forming when the weather is right. It's their method for dodging winter. Years where its warm too early can mess them up.
The previous mantis he had that layed a sack that he thinks is a dud might not be a dud, it takes a while.

Never in my life did I think I would so hooked on a nature drama like this, Lmao! Frankly my biggest concern is that the weavers don’t actively hunt the fire ants. If an invasive colony gets too big too fast, then relying on the Weavers alone may be like throwing a bucket of water into a firestorm (no pun intended).

Hey dude! just an idea, but maybe, if it's possible, you could add some microphones inside the vivarium. The added sound-effect really put me out of the immersion, making the real spectacle of mother nature, sound and feel more like a cartoon. I understand that there needs to be added sound because otherwise the footage is silent, hence the idea of adding microphones inside, so we can also hear whats happening, not just see.
