I watched your video and it was amazing, I really want to try snowboarding haven't done it before and i had a question should i go during the new year..Starting Jan and any recommendations or tour packages that you know of, it would be super helpful!!
Glad you're interested to give this a shot. Jan is a great time to go! In terms of tour packages, I would recommend some of the tours to the yuzawa area which can include hotel and transportation. www.jre-travel.com/seasonal/ski/ (link is in japanese)
The Myoko area is about to be reborn by a Singaporean investment company. It will become an international ski resort like Niseko and Hakuba in the next few years.
It’s only quiet because you are there early 2023. Not many foreigners were organised to get there early 2023 as most people were unsure of if it was going to open up late 2022 and never pre booked anything. We were possibly there that day if it was January/february 2023 as I remember waiting in that top line and that part of the mountain hadn’t been open for a day or two. Come Jan to March 2024 the foreign invasion hits. I know so many people going and the place is very booked up. No accomodation up near akakura
Most of the main roads are fine, but some of the small roads in the villages may be tricky. I would definitely recommend getting a car with 4 wheel drive.
Hi! I'll be heading to Myoko in Jan 2024 . Do you have any advice for finding discounted for the Combined Akakura Onsen & Kanko lift ticket? Did your accommodation offered discounts on tickets for this season? If they did what's the pricing like if you are able to share? Thanks!
@@didibryan Thank you for the response! Good to know. I hope the accommodation discounts continue this season. Just heard from my pension host that the area revamped the discount system for 2024 and was recommended to purchase online via other websites before comming.
Thank you, pretty cool vid
Glad you liked it!
going in January to akakura onsen.. great vid, thanks!!
Enjoy!

Super helpful info, thank you! We are heading to Myoko in late Jan, staying very close to Ikenotaira. It will be our first time to Japan :)
That's awesome! We hope you have a wonderful time!!
Going in late December early jan, do you think they’ll be good snow like this?

Thank you for sharing! We weren't aware of that, but looking forward to visiting again after it's reborn.
Yup and will get destroyed and loose its charm

Hi guys, have you done Nozawa Onsen as well? And if so, which did you prefer out of the two?
Yup! We actually prefer Nozawa Onsen. Feel free to see our videos of top ski resorts in Japan for more info about Nozawa
@@didibryan oh yes I did watch that haha. Thanks guys. Heading there in Feb!
Beautiful video. How did you hold the camera, or did you have someone else hold it for you?
We used the insta360 which makes the stick invisible!
@@didibryan I don't know how that works, but the videography was very nice. Image stabilization was excellent, even in high motion.
Hows the rental drive from Nagano to Myoko and around Myoko? Havent tried driving in winter before - are the roads mostly cleared and easy to drive?
Most of the main roads are fine, but some of the small roads in the villages may be tricky. I would definitely recommend getting a car with 4 wheel drive.
@@didibryan Thanks for the heads up!
Are there any backcountry or side country options in this area?
Yes there are plenty. We didn't do any, but some of the other travelers in our accomodation spent their entire time riding in the backcountry.
@@didibryan thanks. I’ll have to add the area to my list of places to travel too. Japan is awesome!!

We unfortunately didn't have any discounts for Akakura, but our accomodation did give us a slight discount for Ikenotaira.

If I'm staying at Lotte Arai, do you recommend doing Akakura Kanko as a day trip for my beginner-ish snowboarder wife, or stick to Lotte Arai for her?
Will you have a car? If she's fine with the same few runs then you can stay but might be nice to check out some different slopes at some point
@@didibryan , we don't have a car unfortunately. I had planned to take the Myoko shuttle bus early in the morning to get to Akakura.
@@chrischan4936 Sounds good and enjoy! Might be good to also get the local taxi company number in case the bus timings don't work out.
Do you have to pre book ski pass tickets or book when you arrive?
You can just get the lift tickets when you get there!
Hah in the begining I thought this is the snow cover in november.
This was from last snow season, but didn't get a chance to post this until now 🙏
