The rocket stove affect can really burn that creosote out of the stove pipe. Like you say, just do it for a short time.
Mine has a large water tank behind it. That water makes a good heat sink. Or whatever it's called. The water stays hot long after the fire goes out.
I have a Kitchen Queen
It holds lots of wood. But I have never been able to bake in the oven. It doesn't get hot enough to bake, without getting the house too hot. No matter which way I turn the levers.
