Professional road cycling pundit Lanterne Rouge presents highlights of stage 4 / résumé étape 4 / resumen etapa 4 of the Tour de France 2021. Mark Cavendish (Deceuninck - Quick Step) wins the stage followed by Nacer Bouhanni (Team Arkéa Samsic) and Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Fenix). Mathieu van der Poel (MVDP) Alpecin-Fenix keeps the yellow jersey followed by Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck - Quick Step) and Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers).
Cavendish’s last line is beautiful. “So many people didn’t believe in me but these guys do”. It encapsulates everything we love about teammates and teamwork.
Lantern Rouge: and this is what Cavendish had to say
Cavendish: I don’t know what to say.

What a legend…one of the best sporting comeback stories in years
Any UA-cam links to Cav's story? I've only really learned about him in the last year as I've got into the sport and feel like I don't properly appreciate the sentiment going around today.
@@knutbk Not sure about UA-cam videos but he completely dominated sprinting a few years back. He won 30 stages of the TDF between 2008-2016 as well as the points jersey in all 3 grand tours. He also won the rainbow world champions jersey in 2011 and was widely considered to be the greatest sprinter of all time. After suffering a series of injuries and illnesses, his career was thought to be over by 2018/19 and he wasn't selected for the TDF in 2019 or 2020. He had a series of good races in 2021 and was selected this year over sam bennett who wasnt fit for the tour. Not many people would have thought he could ever win another TDF stage a few years ago, but he has suprised everyone with his recent form and has now won again.
@@finlaycampbell3234 Thanks for such a succinct summary! He sounds like a living legend.
@@finlaycampbell3234 Thanks for explanation. I had a similar question, and now I understand his story and why the commentator yesterday was so overjoyed at Cavendish win.
@@knutbk this clip from just a few months ago shows how unlikely it was thought to be. ua-cam.com/video/43qr9oaTud8/v-deo.html
Manx missile is never to be underestimated, he’s been winning stages for months now , and as a late call up, it may well turn out to be in his favour, as other teams didn’t expect him to be there…..he’s older wiser and not as burnt out as many would belive , stage win, and green jersey tonight……still a force to be kept in check, bravo Cav 👍🇮🇲💪
Hearing Boardman on ITV saying he hasnt been getting the results lately did my head in. Obvs didnt watch the races this year at tour of turkey etc.
@@nickmullen2830 yes, totally agree, Cav has overcome his health issues and been fighting for stage wins since feb/ mar this year , Boardman obviously only watches the stuff he’s paid to commentate on….
No surprise, he picked up a 2nd stage win
@Leo D'Arcy Im agreeing with you hence why the etc. is there. Cav proved he was on form. Boardman saying hes not been performing was my point.
I was more stoked about Cav winning than I was about England beating Germany
Yes!
(Come on England, though….)
Me too
Peter Sagan had absolutely NO BUSINESS finishing 5th, after crashing yesterday, and being about 30th wheel at the 800m mark!
Crazy performance to finish where he did
Trust Peter Sagan fans to be impressed by a 5th place finish

1 Cav .. absolute legend! Rolls back the years with yet another stage win after so many said he was washed up.
2 Sagan .. absolute nutter! Anyone who wheelies their road bike over the line on a mountain top stage finish gets MY vote!!🤘🤘👍👍👊👊
Cheeky top 10 from greipel must have been going for the bonus seconds
A few things about todays stage. 1/ I cried a little, and I'm sure that I'm not the only one 2/ Andre Greipel was the patron of the peloton today, and is a total class act! 3/ Nacer Bouhanni is going really well 4/ Never ever underestimate the power of belief. 5/Lantern Rouge post race analysis is second to none, and just keeps getting better and better.
Can’t help but be happy for Cav seeing such an emotional interview.
Hope he retires now after this year. A great champion who deserves to leave on his own terms. Kudos to DQS for giving him that chance.
Why would he retire? He has just proven he is still one of the best sprinters in the world.
The Cavendish "FOOK" during the interview was hillarious xD
Didn’t hear it. At what time?

@@grahamejohnson593 nah it wasn't included in the LR video. Just heard it during live broadcast. I'll try to find the raw interview and post it here.

This protest was useless except for them talking about subscribing to Lanterne Rouge
Clearly not useless then :)
You new to France ? This is how you France lol
0:28 Greipel looks like he's taking his toddler stepchild Jalaphillipe out for a bike ride in this photo, the man is an absolute tank. I would not be mouthing off to him Julian, he looks like he could rip your arms off Chewbacca-style.
LR uploading before ITV get their highlights up lol 🐐🐐
ITS COMING HOME!!!!
That's what everyone said back in 2018😂😂
Coming home for the Manx Missile
I'm not crying, you're crying
me neither.
I want to like but it's at 69
Ahh….it’s just sublime…Mark Cavendish winning a stage..at his age..and with the history he has in the race….genuine tears
Lanterne must be pulling some strings, this Tour has been MADE for views so far 👍👍👍
Cav so confident he doesn't even shave his arms for the aero gains.
First Cav, then England, then Lanterne Rouge - what a great day.
just perfect .. and Federer through at Wimbledon
I am German but Cav made my day
@@ImranShaikh-gh2wd of course you love Federer.
Cavendish with a masterclass and didn't deviate his line once. Others should take note.
Love Bouhanni smacking his handlebars like he had a legitimate chance.
? Well I mean he does have a chance now in the sprints given how open it is
Bouhanni tried to push Laporte into the barriers out of habit.
yup... if it were another 30 meters - he would still lose.
excellent coverage as always. so happy for Cav , never thought he would get another run at the tour.
Wow. Strong teamwork by Deceuninck with Alaphilippe (who plausibly might have GC ambitions given the Tour so far?) giving a strong pull for the leadout.
This is why I love the tour de France.1st three stages have been filled with unexpected drama...then we get mark Cavendish winning a fantastic stage.when I think we had all written him off......yes I had tears in my eyes and I was screaming for cav......wow I love the tour de France.
I've always believed in you Cav and its awesome to see you back. Huge congrats!!!!!!
so happy to see Cav win!!! Great job, you have been amazing to watch over the years. keep it up!
I would like to make a one-time donation. How do I do that?
Your analysis with stop frames of the Cavendish sprint was just terrific. That's what pushed me to decide to donate. Bravo for deepening my appreciation of the sport.

So great to see the world champ in the green jersey help his teammate take the win and Jersey off his back. What an amazing gesture. Cav is back!!!!!
ok we have to admit it, this stage was great. Thx Tour for delivering this time!
Yup agree. First stage that didn’t hurt to watch
When it comes to Mark Cavendish I have always kinda stood on the fence , nether disliking him or like him ,
But hey after today ,, that was truly amazing , hats off to ya Mr Cavendish
Been wondering where this win puts Cav on the all-time list for stage winners in terms of longevity.
Alejandro Valverde has won grand tour stages 16 years apart, Mario Cipollini 14 years and Francesco Moser, like Cavendish now, 13 years. But if we just focus on the Tour de France his 13 year gap is the same as Gino Bartali and one less that Jean Alavoine (1909 and 1923).
Not sure if this is all - can any others rival them? Seems like a pretty select group anyhow.
Simply unique manx missile at his best, cav has more determination desire & belief in himself most sprinters now try & copy his style what a super human he really is the most humble & quickest man on our planet on a bike Legend & more sprint win to come .
So happy for Cav to get back on top of the podium at TDF…. Also its coming home
Your pronunciation of Flemish rider names & places is really top class. Lovely stuff, mate.
This is the best cycling commentary channel I have ever come across.
Screaming at my phone at work with disappointment then excitement. Is this what the swiss felt like?
that's exactly that man!
No control is that you? 😲
@@calebd4669 I've been found
got respect for cav always have but his attitude & riding style in the past have been why no invites to come back but he has been humbled and now understands the continental way which is good, let's just hope that with this new found wind his attitude stays in check as well as his riding style,
well done cav, great to have another win for the uk
was never a big fan of Cavendish but this was quite incredible
Not a big fan of the greatest sprinter in Tour history?
Why not? What does it take?
The greatest sprinter of all time
Best stage. Best recap. Alaphilippe leading out, Morkov, Cav finishing it... the emotions after. And getting to relive it as you recap- perfect. Many good things today help soothe the rough edges from the last three stages. And I hope all who crashed recover quickly.
Thank you , LR
Ive said it before. And i will say it again, top work fella.
Love to see the Decuninck team all helping out, only a few days ago Cav was pulling on the front for Alaphilippe
Disagree. Mørkov did a perfect drop off. He had to pull Cav back after he lost his wheel, and gave it all from 3 to 1.5-1.2 and placed him on the right wheel and then dropped back totally wasted. Even though he didnt run leadout. it was a absolute masterclass from the 2 best how to win a sprint with out a train, and bad possition 3k out.
I agree completely!! Also in the interview you could see the size of Cavendishs' pec muscles lol people forget how much of your chest muscles and shoulders you use in a heavy heavy sprint like that, his position during the sprint was a tiny bit lower/closer to the bars than most of the others from him pulling using his upper body chest and back. It was an absolute masterclass as you pointed out!!
All those other riders giving him congratulations...says it all...and yes I cried
Damn I bloody missed the end of the stage. I know there was a lot of talk that Cav might be up for it. Brilliant! He's back where he belongs, at the front. Well done Cav.👍😊
So happy for Cav!! 💪
So happy for Cavendish - and when a French says that about an English that's a big statement.
Lost for words what a sprinter, brilliant!
In the States NBC followed Cav after he won and ran it live with no commentary for like 3 minutes. Great emotion and it's easy to tell how much his team mates like him and vice versa. Admittedly I was glad they took the mic away from Liggett for those 3 minutes. He thought Philipsen had won until Bob Roll yelled "Cavendish" as Mark crossed the line.
Wow, so emotional Cav winning. He showed so much class talking about Ewan overnight and seems genuinely delighted to be at the Tour. He is a legend of the sport. Btw, just subscribed, brilliant report.
So happy for cav and the footy polished the day off
First year ive really payed attention to the Tour de France, what a awesome sport!
At 4:00 - "Ah, no Demare" surely haha..
This is the best analysis on the internets. Great commentary and analysis. The Tour should hire LR to present their online content because their coverage is shite in comparison.
First time I’ve seen this channel. Subscribed!!
4:25 Those camera shots are why I LOVE these kind of sprint stages. The lone breakaway almost at the finish! Seconds away from glory. And then this monster of a peloton comes around the bend ready to devour him. So fucking cool.
What an explosive finish. I am so flippant glad Cavendish won that sprint But not for him, for Me. I needed him to win because as he said very few people believed he could win a stage in TDF 2021. It doesn't matter to me if this is his only stage win. I am content But it will really make me happy if Cavendish wins another stage or 2. It will be difficult.
So pleased to see Cav winning again, especially after all that he’s been through, but absolutely gutted for Van Moer. His day will come I’m sure
New subscriber here - but I figured out quick, that you are indeed the Ben Cathro of road cycling :D EPIC content, keep it up!
Loved it! Just the start of Cavs bull run!
Say what you will about Alaphilippe, but he works his lungs out for his team.
Van Moer looks like a wolf in the making. TJV should have a long look too.
"Say what you will"?? What do people say about him?
Exactly the opposite of what I predicted. Cav earned it, so full credit to him.
My favorite part is he kept bouhanni from winning.
Thank god I was already subscribed so that cursed image wont haunt me
Mørkov is such a beast. Lots of credit to him
The Cavendish interview gave me tears.
Loved the energy in the podcast today! What a stage!
Epic vid and summary thanks so much!
Heck yeah Cav!!! Making me emotional over here.
one of the happiest day ever!
Excellent coverage. Really great detailed analysis with screenshots and balloons to identify the players while you talk strategy. The networks could LEARN from you, guy. :)
Absolutely delighted for Cav well done mate 🇮🇪
I fooking LOVE Cavendish! I knew there was something wrong when he lost his acceleration. At first I thought the Sky training thatd looked to endurance had affected him more due to age...til we finally found out truth (too manywasted seasons)
You can tell hes best sprinter we've ever seen after hes come back frim that illness and the lack of support from cycling's big names (management/team directors).
A fooking LEGEND!!
Thats why we love this sport!
Best cycling channel!
Your pronunciation of "Fougères" was the best part of the video hahah
Fantastic video and commentary
I wasn't ready for that photo of Rogla
Great work again LR! Loved it. Hope you start doing some merch. :)
very well done presentation! Concise...good photos! Keep your diction sharp and clear!
Great work by Quickstep. Good to see Sagan up there, shaking yesterday off.
Great analysis brother
LOVE Cav! SO happy!
man those first 10 seconds are gold!
HE'S BACK
Big congrats to the Manx Missile!
Great to see him back.
with 450m to go Cav was all the way on the left side on Morkov's wheel, he saw the race evolving and was perfectly behind the Alpacin train by 400m
brilliant vision and understanding how the sprint was developing.
Can't wait for the movie to come out. What a true legend.
No crashes today. Beautiful
Absolutely delighted for him.
Such a great race.
Greipel’s career after cycling is definitely going to be bouncer! This man looks impressive!
Massive. Legend.
This is a huge event in the TDF - a rider actually finished a stage without going ass-over-tits into the asphalt.
That was impressive for a last minute, stop-gap replacement. Cav still got the juice.
Great commentary.
Would you agree that a main reason some breakaways have made it to the finish, or been very hard to catch the last few years, is the new bikes are so very aerodynamic they need less draft, and create less of a draft to follow?
Sure - yet we must also see the super light bikes with 'new' brakes may be a reason for such disasterous crashes.
Always believed he could do it again given the chance, so thanks DQS for giving him that chance!
The win that revitalized his career. Congrats on passing Merckx, Cav.
Best TDF coverage no cap
There are only two in commentary: You, and Phil Liggett
He was in such disbelief he almost forgot to put that watch on 😂
