  • In today's video myself and Paul will be looking at Launch Monitors. Paul uses for his own practice the PRGR Portable Launch Monitor and gets great results. I use Foresights GC Quad in my studio at Churston Golf Club which works great for my business.

    I got one of these for Xmas. It’s fantastic for dialling in the wedges. 40-100. Within 1 yard of Quad.

    Great video. I have a GC2 and the PRGR and use both in my garage. The GC2 doesn't display clubhead speed but the ball speeds numbers are always within 1MPH of each other. The PRGR is a great device to take to the range or even the course as it's super portable.

    Great piece of kit for the money. I got one last year too over the Garmin one as it was less than half the price. You know it was always going to be out a bit but not by much.
    Compared it with both trackman and quad and was pleasantly surprised.
    Ideal for the back garden net as Paul said. I don’t think the ball conversion from range to premium at trackman ranges I can be trusted.

    I got my PRGR as part of the Stack system. I find it is within a few MPH of Trackman and very consistent. It's hard to beat for the price.

    I got one of these over a year ago for speed trading as it was the only one I could find that measures swing speed without a ball. When it first came out it was terrible at measuring wedges, but now it is really good.

    Awesome, Dan & Paul. The quality v price was astounding. I'd be interested to see what you might find doing similar with a Toptracer Range v Trackman range. Never quite sure what to make of those.

      I see some wild results at top tracer and the yardages are miles off I find even though they claim it’s equal to a premium ball.
      I’ve had a ball go left and right in mid air.

    I think it would be good in the net before a round to see if you/ the weather is causing you to hit longer or shorter than normal. Quite often you get a cold day when you’re feeling a club less.

    Used a PRGR for the last couple of years. Amazing bit of kit! To get within a tiny percentage accuracy of kit that costs 100x the price, is staggering. Imagine buying a driver that cost 1% of the price and gets you 99% of the performance of a competitor product. Great video chaps. Can't recommend a PRGR highly enough.

    Looks very impressive and a great demonstration by you (and Paul). Great comparison and for someone like me that doesn't want to spend a huge amount on something like this, but still would like to use it to see any possible improvements over time, it's ideal. I'd like to see a few more of these "cheaper" devices being compared to the GC Quad or Trackman devices and see which one comes out best value for money.

    I have had a prgr for few years now. I use prgr primarily for speed sticks. I love the prgr! Its nice for speed sticks because you can look at swing speed with out use of golf clubs. Most inexpensive devices under 2k for golf require you to use a golf club. The prgr works with sticks, bats, clubs etc. Plus i know if i am swining at 100mph i know 300 yards is not possible. This forces me to improve my swing instead empting multiple buckets of balls with driver wondering why my ball is not carrying 250 or 300. The prgr offers you a reality check on your potential swing speed.

    Great video dan and Paul and have to agree that for the money it’s a great gadget,and yes there’s always going to been a difference between those 2 machines.
    And as Paul has used his for a year he would definitely get a good idea of numbers,also it’s a lot more portable as you can just slide it in your pocket or bag.
    I also think you’re both right with your assessments.

    I'm pretty sure the reason for the club input, is for the spin. It can't accurately measure spin. Even trackman is rubbish at reading spin without dots on the balls. Great video. Best launch monitor for that price that I have seen

    Dan we have just had top tracer installed at the club. It is brilliant for gapping etc. I have for the first time ever got swings for yardages under 100 yds eg 60 yds is 9 o'clock with my 52°. Would be brilliant if you could do a quad/top tracer comparison as TT has limited numbers IE no club speed only ball. I think it would help give an idea of what ball speeds mean in relation to distance. There is no smash factor with tt so sometimes ball and distance numbers don't add up! Just a thought.

    It's interesting, i have recently played on a SIM that uses a GCQuad and on a SIM that uses a much cheaper SKYTrak+. There really wasn't much in it on yardages etc vs what i would expect but on shot shape the Quad seemed to far better match from the strike of the ball with driver and with irons. I miss left if i am going to and SkyTrak had me right most of the time. So i think it depends what you are using them for.

    Bought one of these during COVID lockdowns, worked great in the garden for training swing speed. Once I started using at the top tracer range I found it to be closer toy actual numbers than the top tracer was, I've had lesson and they used trackman and I found that showed numbers closers to the prgr which gave me the belief it was really quite accurate

  • @samprince1653
    @samprince1653 8 місяців тому

    As stated in the video, you can calibrate it based on on-course observation. You will then know at least if swing/club results compare upwards or downwards. The absence of spin data does however make it 'limited' if you then wish to compare performance with that of different clubs.

    Dan I imagine this works off radar, I hit balls at an indoor range that used trackman, they didn’t have RCT balls, the ones with radar reflective coatings that I’ve heard you need to use with radar devices indoors, the numbers were sketchy that I got. What’s your thought on radar devices indoors without RCT balls?

  • @starks1974
    @starks1974 8 місяців тому

    When I hit my 8 iron it will show a club head speed of low 90's..but then it shows the distance does not reflect that. I use the top tracer at my range and the yardage is about equal, yet that swing speed is very off. And it only occurs with those shorter irons.

    Your average handicap golfer's dispersion is such that a 1% inaccuracy is meaningless so I wouldn't hesitate to get one for use with my net at home particularly to judge swing speed & efficiency to measure how I improve my swing, especially in the winter months.

  • @danraine
    @danraine 8 місяців тому

    Question for your Dan, if the PRGR is 'wrong' by 2% would it change your lesson, or would you recommend a student did something different? I would imagine not. I m very surprised by how useful this is. Is there anything similar that helps with angle of attack, club path?

    • @DanHendriksenGolf
      @DanHendriksenGolf  8 місяців тому +1

      Measuring path and face is always difficult to find at cheap prices, think you need to invest a lot more. As for would I change in the lesson, hard to say do you mean in with spin numbers?

    • @danraine
      @danraine 8 місяців тому

      My thought was that this is 'good enough' in terms of accuracy, with data I am always interested in the "so-what", i.e. what difference would it make if this number were more or less accurate, what would it change. I have a practice net I made in the garden during lock-down, was thinking of getting one of these, and maybe those mats that brush showing how hit the ball, mainly as a feedback exercise for the kids. @@DanHendriksenGolf

    I have one - the smash, ball speed, carry all get very random when strike deteriorates. Paul is a machine. I am not.
    I very much trust driver club head speed though. Perfect for speed training. I then only look at the carry, etc., if I’m happy with strike, and then only for fun really. Oooooo, that was a quick swing and a strike… what would that be on course.

    Prgr will only measure BS and estimate the other 2 key parameters (launch and spin) based on club. If Paul’s actual launch and spin are very close to standard it will hence give v accurate numbers. If he was hitting driver with spin of 3500 and 8 launch it would be way off
