The Sandinista Revolution was needed, the American/Somoza dictatorship had to be destroyed & the people freed. Ortega is not a Sandinista any longer, he is a DICTATOR just like Somoza was! Now it's the American/Ortega Dictatorship.
Well "democracy" usually means selling out to franchises and fast food. In Nicaragua people can still farm their food. They may not be rich, but they are free from ultra open borders capitalism, for now.
Blah, blah, you guys repeat a bunch of lies, the Sandinistas never benefited the poor. They created poverty. Anything they did which it was little came with a large price tag attached to a humongous debt. They destroyed the country’s ability to produce. Built a army of 150,000 soldiers in a country of 3M (at that time). Take that in comparison to the 6,000 soldiers Somoza had. Also the so called revolution was an international war finance and supplied with conventional war weapons and communists “soldiers” from, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico and Cuba. The so call revolution was always a lie from the beginning, it didn’t start well and then got corrupted, it was corrupt from the get go. The communists in Nicaragua always ruled with an iron fist and they murdered hundreds of citizens, plus the government was involved in drugs trafficking from Colombia. The Sandinistas, took advantage of a political situation to come to power and take over a country. Somoza was at the end of his term. He was stepping down in 1981. He had support from half the country. If the international community had stayed out of it, Somoza would had stepped down in 81 and the country would had transition to the next government, without destroying all of the institutions of the country. It was a violent international war, not an organic movement, it didn’t pick up support until the end when the people just went with it just to have an end to it. But they were forced.
Somoza was great, Idk why he is so hated by many today, my grandmother lived through Somoza and the communist Sandinistas in the 80s. Somoza put the country into economic prosperity, sure the was a little bit of repression but nothing even remotely close to what there is today. America didn't really like Somoza, but he was better than the alternative. Sandino was a traitorous criminal who tried to split Nicaragua into two and steal the gold mines from the people. When villages heard that Sandino was coming they didn't think they were being liberated, they went to hide the women, children, and young men. And even then they would slaughter the elders and put their heads on spikes as a warning to others. The Sandinistas and Sandino were the absolute worst thing that could have happened to Nicaragua.
Why you guys don't tell the truth about who are responsible for all the misery that Nicaragua has suffered and not only in Nicaragua. Shame on you that only show partiality.

Hugo Chavez has ruined Venezeula's economy- hard to do considering all the oil they have. I do not like the crackdown on democracy-it is probably totally unnecessary for Ortega, and in fact, probably very counter productive.
