Nice find! I referenced this because I have a rover300 pump on my 1998 vw Tdi engine, in a mk1 rabbit. Funny thinking my injection pump used to live in one of your suv
The cone the boost pin rests against can be turned to adjust fuel during boost I adjusted the position to getting a loss of power with foot down then richen slightly & now my LWB County returns 33 to 34 mpg across country driving from Thame to Kington >> Its similar to adjusting a Carburetor for best fuel consumption on a petrol vehicle... Another fuel saver was achieved with fitting road type tyres the same circumference & softer rear dampers... Seems bouncing up and down isn't fuel efficient >> This has been observed on other vehicles after changing springs & dampers >
I have a 300tdi defender which has been stood for a number of years i have just got it going but the engine is racing at abou 2500rpm with mo throttle response could this be the issue with my engine a stuck boost pin
I'd exactly the same problem. No power until 2500rmp. And yes, it's the position of the boost pin and a dirty or correded governor pin. I have turned the star whell roundabout 45 degresse in and the nut on top of the dome at about 45 degresse, turned the dot for the boostpin directly to front of the car and shave the plastikwasher down for 1-3mm (or use a softer or a bit shorter spring around the pin).
Great information.
Well presented.
We never take notice of that little breather.
Cheers for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
