I have absolutely fallen in love with your painting style and technique. I intend to reference your videos often. Thank you.
That's great. Thank you Mary Ann.
i have just discovered you....you explain your technique so well. You are the first person I have come across to really share your knowledge. I have been struggling for more than a year with watercolor and for the first time I have actually understood what to do..and have been able to achieve something
That makes my time doing this so worthwhile Jacinta. Thank you very much.
Fantastic. Love that technique. Beautiful work.👍❤️
Thank you. I really was looking for such a tutorial on leaves 🌿
So inspirational you are such a good teacher
Excellent video - much appreciated!
Love your work. Thank you for sharing your talent and techniques with us.
I LOVE the way you created the central leaf vein - realistic and easy to execute. And dropping the yellow onto the green leaf adds depth and interest. Very valuable tutorial!!
I love watching your videos, thank you
I came to your pages to learn, but even more, I love just watching you paint. Sometime, i like to "predict " your next step, to see if I am able to think ahead as you do. You are remarkable!
Beautiful👍🏻
A very helpful technique for shadows... such a tricky part of botanical paintings for me. I know it’s crucial to add them, but I’m always afraid to ruin my previous hard work. Your method takes away the fear!
I absolutely adore your videos and find them soooooo helpful after the number of poor ones I have wasted my time on. Would it ever be possible for you to share your drawings so that we can print them and actually follow along with you? From one (former) teacher to another, your teaching methods are outstanding! I am now 80 and painting for just 3 years,, and you are the BEST - the very BEST!!!
I enjoy your professional teaching style. I learn so much. As soon as our leaves come out I will try these techniques.
Thank you very much Susan.
After watching you paint I realized that I need to do better drawings. I fail to do that every time. Thank you for your instructions. I am so excited to start painting again.
Happy to help! Thank you.
Simple yet beautiful 🤙🏼
Oh so beautiful
Thank you Dora 💜.
Never loved leaves so much Louise. Absolutely beautiful and explained so well. Thank you so much again
You're a sweetheart. Thank you!
This is very well explained. I feel encouraged to grab the watercolors again, after some bitter disappointments..... 🌹🍀🌼🤗 Thank you so much!
Thank you very much! I hope you do.
Beautiful. Thank you🌹🌹🌹😊
This is such a great help. I have struggled with painting leaves and this is the first time I have found a helpful video on how to do them. The underpainting wash with yellow makes all the difference in the leaves looking full of life. Thanks so much for all of your wonderful videos.
Excellent video and explanation of the methods you used. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Thanks very much Sharon.
I’m without words, gorgeous you are an amazing artist. I appreciate you!
Beautiful tutorial. Always waiting for your new uploads.
That's really good to know. Thank you Gitanjali.
Wow! So glad I found you...this tutorial was so helpful. Love your work and your teaching style. Thank you
Louise, I am just mesmerized watching you paint. And I love listening to you too - your voice is very soothing or something. :) I've been dabbling in watercolor for a few months but haven't achieved anything even close to this! I think I'm going to have to take one of your classes because you make it look so easy to do even though I know it isn't! Love, love, love your video tutorials! Thank you for sharing!
I find cast shadows intimidating. Loved how you penciled them in. Why not! Very helpful information and another great tutorial.
Fab tutorial so clearly explained, thank you 😊
Thank you Laine.
The cast shadows add so much interest to this painting, it is an inspiring way to focus on painting a single subject while making it look complete and 3 dimensional. Wonderful work :)
How delicate! Thank you for the class ;)
My pleasure. Thanks Paty.
Thank you Paty!
Really beautiful and you explained everything so clearly, including the ‘why’s ‘ of how you were painting. Thank you !
Thank you very much Miriam.
You’re a wonderful artist and a great teacher. Love your voice and helpful commentaries.
Again a lovely piece of work. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure and thank you very much Tina.
I’ve just discovered you, and I could watch you alllll day! As a beginner, it’s hard for me to imagine that I could paint one single flower 🌸, let alone do what you do...right now, I’m experimenting with color and different techniques. You give insightful information and I hope to be able to apply it to my future paintings. Thank you 🙏 for being so thorough. I love this !
Cool. Refreshing leaves, madam. Thanks for sharing your talent generously...
This was so fun to watch and learn, everything is so soft and gentle, the way you paint so calming...I will try to be more relaxed and less anxious as it makes such a difference I just love the calmness about you, it makes watching you so enjoyable...last night I couldn’t sleep so I came out here to watch another video of yours, you helped me to relax and I learned so much more ....I hope you will continue to paint for us and I can’t wait to see your studio...
I just started art with watercolor pencils which also made me want to try watercolors. I've been looking for the style that I like until I bumped into your channel. Def will stay and learn.
So lifelike, Thank you so much for such easy and wonderful instructions.
My pleasure. Thank you Chris.

Thank you Diane!
I am your fan, you are gorgeous! Love all your paintings,I seriously mean all of your paintings! May I ask if you have books of your painting?
Lovely Louise. Can I ask: The aluminium palette, is that your favorite palette? And what is your opinion on it? I just received mine, and am not sure about it. The sides Looks high a bit, and I don’t know how easy it will be to come and go with the brush?
Hi Louise,
My favourite palettes are the little ceramic ones I use with the large sloping wells. The only problem with them is that they are too small and you need ten of them to put all your paints on. Ideally I'd love a really big round ceramic palette with big sloping wells that has a lid. I could buy a lazy susan to sit it on and then I could rotate it....what bliss! I haven't been able to find one yet so let me know if you ever find one. I've found large round ceramic palettes with non-sloping wells but never one with the sloping wells. I make do with my metal palette because it has the sloping wells and I can close it when I'm not using it. The wells themselves could be larger. I rarely use flat brushes so it's been working ok for me but if I was painting on full sheets of paper with big flat brushes it wouldn't be suitable.
Hi Louise, thank you so much for this detailed answer. I too am searching for this big round porcelain palette, with slanted wells, and a nice sturdy cover. A porcelaine cover would be so nice too. Wish they would make a Louise de Masi one 😃! I would be twices happy to buy it.
I would even consider a big rectangular one , slanted wells, porcelaine cover ❤️, that would serve as a mixing try too 🥰🥰🥰. If ever I see one, I will certainly advise you 🤗
beautiful!
Thank you Gilles.
I really like your teaching style 😀. Do you plan to post your tutorials not just on Skillshare? I think they are drowning among all the rather low key stuff on there.
Thank you! I have a site on Teachable where I sell the classes individually. I'm also planning to start a Patreon page where patrons will have access to longer and more detailed tutorials than the ones I put on here.
@@LouiseDeMasi Fabulous. Waiting for your patreon chanel 😉
🌺👍👍👍
Lovely ... I need ti just stop life and paint 🤦♀️ thanks again 🤗. What color could I substitute for the w/n Perylene Green ? It has black in it so a very dark green ?
Thanks Kath! Any dark green would be ok. You could try deep sap green or you could mix a dark blue (like indigo) into a green that you have.
Louise De Masi wonderful.. I always panic when I think of colors... thanks 👏
Hi! Would appreciate some help. I would like to paint this, but I could not find it on my Patreon or on Skillshare. Where can I find the outline for this? I also could not find it on Etsy. I love this painting and your teaching style!
Hi Gale, Thank you! This was painted before I joined Patreon so there is no tutorial for it other than this one I'm sorry. If you are ever looking for a tutorial of a painting of mine they are all on the index I have made on my website. There are no more other than those that are listed there.
Thank you Louise I am enjoying your tutorials so much! One day soon I will give painting a try. I am not a good drawer. What type of pencil do you use to do your initial sketch?
Grazie 🙏
That was delightful as always Louise thank you! I looked at da Vinci brushes and there are so many, do you use natural or synthetic?
Thank you very much Melita. I use both although I tend to reach for the natural brushes more often.
Thanks Louise I might have to sell a kidney, I just priced them😳
I’m enjoying your videos. Thank you! I’m trying your techniques for birds. I recommend Mind of Watercolour videos if you’re interested in techniques for trees and landscapes :)
Do you draw the subject freehand directly onto the water colour paper or do you use tracing paper or ?
Is there a full length tutorial in pattern available?
What paper do you use...because on my journey i realise paper does matter
Hi Louise, what could be a good alternative for Perylene Green? I want to start straight away but want to have the right colours ready. Thank you so much!
Good question Elisa. Maybe try mixing a dark blue/grey like Paynes Grey into one of your greens and see what happens.
@@LouiseDeMasi thank you!
Do you have this on your Patreon? :)
No I"m sorry. It was painted before I started on Patreon and I'm not sure if I filmed it all.
Thank you for making time to reply,@@LouiseDeMasi! It's gorgeous and this is enough to go with. :)
Did you manage to get some more watercolour board Louise?
They didn't get back to me yet Karen. 🤷🏼♀️
@@LouiseDeMasi I would give them a couple of more days. You could also try giving them a call. When I was in there a few weeks ago there was only two of them working and they seemed a little overwhelmed.
@@karenfinneganart2480 They got back to me this afternoon. They have 640gsm weighted paper but not the watercolour board. Not to worry. I know Arches aren't making it anymore. I'll just have to keep stretching. 🥴
@@LouiseDeMasi oh really? Thats strange they showed me the board because I had never heard of it before. It must have been the last of it.
