- The No. 2 UConn Huskies saw their undefeated season come to an end at the hands of the No. 22 Xavier Musketeers. Five Xavier players finished in double-digits. Jack Nunge, battling through flu-like symptoms, toughed out 15 points. Zach Freemantle and Colby Jones each added 16 points of their own. This is a crucial signature win for Sean Miller's crew on the last day of 2022.

As a Husky fan always enjoyed hating on Georgetown back in the Calhoun era, but maaaaann does the BEast ever miss the Hoyas as perennial powerhouse.
@@hd-xc2lz yeah I wished Pat Ewing was the next Thompson but unfortunately he is not. I think coach calapri needs a new change of scenery, I think Georgetown would be an amazing fit.

I won't say this loss has revealed that the emperor has no clothes, unlike some detractors, since UConn is still playing pretty well. However, I do think this should act as a wake up call to their most vocal (and frankly annoying) fans that they are not quite the untouchable powerhouse they've been built up to be. As with quite a few teams this year, I can easily see themselves receiving the blunt end of an upset come March.
True but that's the beauty of college basketball anyone can lose a game in March. Especially this yr I don't think there is really any definite favorite. And let's be real all the powerhouse fans are annoying UConn Duke, Kentucky, Kansas all of those fan bases are annoying.
Give me a break. I know scores of passionate Husky fans, and none that muse on an undefeated season.

@@hd-xc2lz Look, I've seen PLENTY of UConn fans pushing that rhetoric. A vocal minority? Probably. Once again I'm not calling them bad by any means, I'll even agree that there's a not bad chance that they win the whole thing. I'm just personally keeping a level of skepticism towards it happening in the long run.

The no-call on Kunkel's obvious frustration foul at 4:18 sums up this game. 5 or 6 missed/dead wrong calls in the last 5 minutes of this game, maybe the refs are trying to teach Danny a lesson.
If your referring to the foul on the Jackson steal, you are correct-but Jackson scored a layup anyway. Still, it’s nuts that a foul wasn’t called.

@@Ian-ux7bn Fans rarely see the refs as unbiased. Both sides almost always have legit complaints. I'd blame Hurley for throwing a wrench in a comeback. He all too often (year in and year out) hurts his team with his inability to control his emotions.
Look how many steps Sanogo takes at 5:07. He was doing that all game and they never called it. UConn got away with so much and they’re still whining.
UCONN was off to a great start and look to be back to being the beast of the East..especially with Jay Wright no longer on the NOVA sideline..but every team is due a loss at some point

UConn won’t make it past the Elite 8 for one very simple reason: Dan Hurley will get T’d up at the worst possible moment and hand the other team the win. Dude just can’t control himself
I think he learns from this one honestly. He's a great coach and I think this is a look in the mirror moment.
All he said was, “Unbelievable.” I don’t think he’s lying about it. It was the ref who lost his cool. You can call that T (after warnings) earlier in the game. But not in the last two minutes of a two-point game.

I'm ok with that. We need a wake up call prior to March madness...so we don't take anything for granted winning a 5th NCAA championship.
Hurley stated that the technical was called in response to his shouting, “Unbelievable!” I don’t think he’s lying. No matter how many times a coach has been warned, you don’t call a T at that stage of the game for that level of provocation. What are the chances that a T would have been called under those exact circumstances in a Final Four game? Absolutely none. The ref lost his cool-totally unprofessional. Still, while the disparity in fouls is troubling, I don’t think the T or the officiating determined the outcome.
If you were at the game you would know that the technical was a build up of Hurler’s actions. TV didn’t show this but Hurley with 4:21 left thought the Newton got fouled on the drive to the hoop by Nunge but then ended throwing the ball out of bounds to X possession. To get the refs attention Hurley stomped his feet repeatedly like a child throwing a tantrum. Nothing happened but you could tell the ref was not happy with Dan. So when Dan made the “unbelievable” remark the same ref had had enough. He has a reputation that he needs to keep his emotions dialed in so it doesn’t cost the team in a more meaningful game.

In my opinion, and in my experience of decades of watching college BB, you NEVER call a T at that stage of the game for that level of provocation-no matter how much of a build up there has been. I do recall in the 1990s, at a crucial stage of a game, a ref gave Donny Marshall a T for spinning away from the ref because he disagreed with the call. The ref used the same excuse-he was tired of Marshall’s “antics.” The ref was universally crucified as he should have been. If it’s crunch time in a close game, you call a T for storming out on the court, throwing things, the magic word. But not for “Unbelievable.”
