The SSV Normandy SR-2 is indeed one of the most amazingly detailed and well thought out hero ships in Sci-Fi. While not the biggest or strongest, she has the capabilities where it counts. I, like many, hope to learn if ME4 will reveal the Normandy's whereabouts.

The Mass Effect Universe seems funny.
Here's this ship that is built to be very aerodynamic, but you can't really fly in on most planets.
So we designed this shuttle as a little dropship. It is shaped like a brick and yet somehow flies decently enough that the Alliance and Cerberus both use them frequently.

    • @marcusblackwell2372

I think the aerodynamics were just indented for space flight (after all, that's where most of the flying is)

I also have always had a problem with non Mass Relay FTL.
According to how its described, the Mass Effect field lowers the mass of anything its formed around.
However, even if you reduce the mass of an entire ship to that of a hydrogen atom (or less), it still takes Infinite Energy to push that mass to Light Speed, much less FTL (haven't seen anything to 'fix' this description, like the ME field makes an object 'negative mass', thus it can be pushed beyond light speed or anything).

My theory about how the collectors could detect the Normandy in stealth was thanks to the Reaper's understanding of mass effect fields. Being the architects of mass effect technology, it's not too far a leap to suggest that the Reapers could have a way of detecting and tracking dark energy. A ship powered by a mass effect field would have a higher dark energy signature that the background of space. This would be especially true for the Normandy, which might as well be setting off a flare. Though it's unclear why the Reapers couldn't detect the Normandy in ME3. It's possible that either not all Reaper ship's could track dark energy or more likely they could only detect the Normandy's dark energy if they were actively looking for it and could only track the ship if they were aware that it was hiding nearby. This would also explain why in ME3's planet scanning mini game, the Reapers would be completely unaware that you were in a system until you used the scanner too many times. Then they were suddenly aware of exactly where you were anywhere you were in the system, even though you would have had no reason to drop out of stealth.

In all accounts a hero ship, though how they portray the ship reminds me of the Millennium Falcon, and they did it with both ships in my opinion. Though the SR-2 was more advanced. So, for me in Star Wars terms was a freighter moving up to a corvette, at least that is how I think of the upgrade. Though the ship itself and the lore behind it made the ship have a personality to it, including EDI, which I thought was a nice touch, considering they are fighting against an AI system that keeps organics in check, while EDI was a V.I. program that Shepard found on Luna and developed into a fully sentient AI system. The lore is outstanding and really brings the ship to life, even just exploring the ship gives the feel that the ship itself is a character in Mass Effect. Thank you for the breakdown. Awesome Video.
