I went to Marshall University when Randy and Chad played.. We usually didn’t stay past half time as the score was very lop-sided.. But I was always amazed by Randy.. Once Marshall got in the red-zone, they always threw a fade route to the corner for Moss.. The other team knew it was coming, the fans knew it was coming, but nobody could stop it.. It was beautiful..

This video is 4 years old, so I doubt you'll see this, but the last TD shown for the Patriots... He did that against Darrelle Revis, the best cover man in the league, and if you see the complete replay, he puts his hand up, in the universal "I'm open" sign, seconds into the play, Technically, Revis wasn't beat yet, but Moss was so certain he has him beat already, the one handed catch was just gravy. If anyone else, put their hand up that early, I'd be tempted to call it disrespect, but from Randy it was confidence.
Randy is from Rand, West Virginia. Future NBA All Star< Jason "White Chocolate" Williams was on the basketball team with Randy. Randy was Mr. Basketball in the state of West Virginia. That team had a future NBA player on it, and he wasn't the best player on the team.

That was 3 receptions, 3 touchdowns 163 yards, which is absurd. Would have been 4 receptions for 4 touchdowns and a little over 200 yards, but they called pass interference on one of the plays on the defense. G.O.A.T. Thanks man, keep up the good work.

@@wittynclever Kinda hard to come up with concrete facts to prove anything this subjective. Stats are misleading because rules have changed, but having watched all three play, I'd say Moss for sheer talent, Megatron for measurables, but I'd want Rice over both of them because of the intangibles and everything else he brought to the table. Megatron is a freak, for sure, and it's definitely a valid argument, but for my money, it's Rice, Moss, Megatron in that order.

  • @shaun374
    @shaun374 5 років тому

Minnesotan here - watching him was incredible. The reason you always see two people around him is because teams ran a special defense against him. Every team in the league would put the safety (one of the two players on defense who are in the way back) over the top. His only job was to run deep to cover Moss going past everyone. The Vikings routinely ran one play - "Moss Go and Get It", which involved Moss running as fast as he could and the QB throwing it as far as he could.
Moss was famous for completely changing the way defenses lined up. He was part of 2 record breaking offenses, and there's a reason. That top safety was effectively removed from the game. That meant offenses were playing 11 vs 10 basically any time Moss was on the field. His talent was absolutely insane.
He also has the greatest fan interaction of all time. Some guys were asking him about a $10,000 fine he got for shaking his ass at fans. I'll paraphrase:
"Did you write them the checks yet?" - When you're rich, you don't write checks.
"How do you pay them then?" - Straight cash homey. (this became a meme)
"Are you bothered by the 10k fine?" - No because it aint shit. Aint nothing but 10 grand. What's 10 grand to me? Next time I'll shake my dick at them.
Moss is almost undoubtedly the #2 receiver of all time. Some people would say he's the best.

Randall Cunningham was the Quarterback for most of Mosses great Vikings games. It really was a combination of the two. Between the two of them they racked-up the most amount of points in a single season EVER (it still holds as far as I know).
Randall was a over the hill quarterback that was on his way out, and Moss was a rookie on his way in. They somehow complimented each other like Montana and Rice.
When you are watching the Vikings highlights don't forget to watch how those balls were just LACED in to his hands. Weird angles and very tight timings. I watched all the Vikings games games with these two live (well at least on TV back in the day). But yeah it was mind blowing to watch. A new level was created.

Randy Moss is my favorite athlete of all time, and my personal pick for greatest receiver of all time. Jerry Rice was undoubtedly the most SUCCESSFUL wide receiver of all time, and his hard work and technique are unmatched, but he also had Joe Montana and Steve Young throwing to him for his whole career. Randy Moss made journeyman QBs into Pro Bowlers and nobodies into starters. When he had Tom Brady throwing to him, he set records. To me, him or Rice are the only possible candidates for greatest of all time.
Honestly, there were times when it didn't seem fair that he was in the NFL - like he belonged in some hypothetical future football league from space or something. You could not cover him with just one guy, or even two. When Randy Moss was on your team, the defense had to focus and prepare for him above all else. Even if you had another Hall of Fame wideout on your team like Cris Carter or Wes Welker, that team knew they had to shift their coverage heavily toward Moss, because coverage that would be enough to stop most receivers couldn't stop him - he was open even when he was covered. That fear alone was enough to make him dangerous. He was the centerpiece of the two best offenses I've ever seen, the 2007 Patriots and the 1998 Vikings. Only the greatest play in Super Bowl history and the Vikings' cursed franchise history, respectively, kept him from a ring.
He's also a guy who came from nothing - hillbilly country in rural West Virginia - and took a bunch of shit throughout his career about his character, almost none of which was deserved. Dude smoked some weed and was a black man who knew how good he was, and the media never forgave him for either of those things. The Vikings have broken my heart a number of times, but they've only made me truly ANGRY once, and that was when they let our aggressively mediocre sportswriters run Moss out of town in 2005 and traded him for a can of baked beans and the 1st rounder they used to draft Troy Williamson, a wide receiver who could not catch.
I honestly don't think any football game I ever see for the rest of my life will be as fun for me as his Thanksgiving game against the Cowboys in 1998 was. To me, Randy Moss represents everything that's fun about sports.

Chris Carter taught Randy Moss to do the one hand catch drills. Chris played with Randy in Minnesota and mentored him as a rookie. Chris is a Hover too, with a bunch of ridiculous number of 1 handers.

People talk about his speed, his hands, his route running, and rightly so, but Moss had an ability to adjust his positioning at the last second to make the catch that is unparalleled.

Moss is the only guy in the last 30 years who was open on every play, even when he wasn't open, he was open. A true nightmare for the greatest DBs the NFL had to offer.

his journey before the nfl was crazy. grew up in a bad neighborhood, was heavily recruited out of hs but lost all of his offers because of legal trouble and even went to jail for a bit. was rediscovered by marshall university who was in the lower section of D1 football and absolutely tore it up there before being drafted by the vikings and the rest is history!

Actually, Marshall was still a Division II football program when Moss transferred there in 1996. That was the year the team went undefeated and won the D-II National Championship. 1997 was when Marshall moved up to Division I in all sports and joined the MAC conference. If Moss had went to another Division I school after being dismissed by Florida State in 1996 he would have lost another year of eligibility. He had already missed playing his 1995 season with the 'Noles because he was required to redshirt, the NCAA saw him as a transfer student from Notre Dame (he signed a letter of intent).

Playing football 🏈 in highschool we would always call someone moss if they had amazing catch ability, getting the title of moss was an amazing achievement that all wide receivers strived for

As far as I can remember the first guy to really make the One hander a staple of his game, was Moss’s teammate and mentor, Chris Carter. That man might have had the best hands of all time.

Its been said already but ill say it again, Chris Carter (best hands in the NFL IMO) had the 1 hander perfected, and taught it to his young teammate Randy Moss who showcased it well.

You mentioned single season receiving record being broken. Moss had 23 in 2007, hasn't been broken. You said "Tomlinson", assuming you meant LT who had 28 rushing TD in 2006, which is also a record.
    Love your videos.

Randy as a player made several defensive coaches have sleepless nights. He had great hands, world class speed, and great moves. His teammate Chris Carter was a darn good receiver too. Good enough that he is in the NFL Hall of Fame.. According to Google Randy had 156 touchdowns during his NFL career combined with 15,292 yards. Randy is/was an unstoppable athlete. A real STUD.
You may want to locate and watch Paul Warfield -- Top 100. He was amazingly good. NFL Hall of Fame good! Check him out.
