I'm actually starting a 1 month course in criminology on Monday. So it just gives a bit of an overview for those who are interested. I like that kind of study option, so you can get a taste for it and see if it's something you'd want to further pursue. Great option for me as i have many interests and don't know which way to go. I've also studied sociology and psychology this way too. 🤗

I also love neuroscience and found this book sooo engaging. Big fan of yours as well, your talent is incredible & love how down to earth you are!
The Psychopath Inside is really interesting too :) it's autobiographical from a neuroscientist who was/is studying psychopathy in the brain and other conditions like Alzheimers :)

So cool to hear you talk about neuroscience! Both of my parents are neuroscientists and I'm currently in school getting my bachelor's for it! The complexity of our brains is amazing to me, especially how sensitive we are to hormones. Both of my parents have actually worked with James Fallon before and my mom said that she saw a lot of his behavior first hand, and said that he left out some bits that showed how sleazy he could be. It's a really interesting to me to hear stories about her personal experiences with him!

One story she told me is that Fallon started having meetings at the yearly Society for Neuroscience conferences under a group called Garcia y Vega (a take off on the Ramon y Cajal award that is given out). But, the only people that could attend this meeting were female undergrads and new female grad students in neuroscience, as well as older, established men who basically funded the meeting bought all the women alcohol. It was invitation only, and I believe my mom was in her 2nd or 3rd year of grad school, so she snuck in with someone else who had gotten an invite. She told me that she remembers the men being very pleased with themselves, because they "had the first pick" of all of the young women neuroscientists. And even Fallon notice her and asked her how she got in (she was a grad student at UC San Diego when he was a post-doc, and they worked under the same advisor so he knew her). This was probably 40 years ago, at least, so I doubt that any thing like that exists anymore. But man, it's crazy to think that something like that could fly under the radar, and apparently there are pleeeenty of stories that I don't know about. I really want my parents to write a book once they retire with all of these stories, but that might hurt me if I end up going into academia and want to collaborate with anyone they talk about lol.

Love you so much Chloe 💕 been following you for ages. Im actually majoring in Biology so I totally respect your scientific/logical thinking. For me, however, seeing the perfection of our universe and delving into the complicated depths of science, formulas and algorithms, it has forced me to believe there must be a higher power. Everything is too orderly. A universe could not, in my mind, have created itself and also all of the consistent rules that go with it. Just my opinion :) thought I would share a different mindset!
Things appear to have order, because we apply order to them. If we did not the state of the universe would appear entirely entropic. However, the universe does not abide by any one set of rules. If anything, the more we learn about how the universe functions, the more arbitrary and disorderly it all appears. We have barely begun to refine our understanding of multiple dimensions, antimatter, quantum physics, etc. We attempt to because we are human and we try to make sense of things. It's what we do, and it's worked out pretty well for us sure. But to discard the power of human curiosity, and to leave it to some sort of higher power coordinating everything seems silly to me and people like Chloe. The fact that we are matter that has evolved into a state of self awareness is a far more compelling argument towards the application of the divine on to the unknown.

I just seem to be more partial to the notion that science explains life and that a higher power, to me, explains science. Physical sciences don't exist without rules. Rules of matter, motion, thermodynamics. Just the idea that us, as humans, can come up with constants for values such as gravity, Avogadro's number, etc. that govern the world we live in to some degree had been able to convince many scientists that we must live in an orderly 'world'. The simple fact that we can plug values into a physics formula riddled with constants and output an accurate distance, time, or other numerical value is astonishing and also indicative of an orderly universe. This is the type of 'order' I am talking about - the fact that there are numerical patterns behind the way the world functions! But I really enjoy learning about how other people feel on this subject and, once more, respect your opinion completely 😊
Sure. What you are describing is akin to that of the Fine-tuned Universe theory. Math and science are absolutely the pinnacles of human civilization because they help us understand and quantify certain processes of the universe we inhabit. Our ability to quantify something is, again, to me a testament to the grandiosity of human curiosity and not so much a testament to the divine. Chloe, good luck with starting a family! My Bub is now three and a half months old and I never thought I could be so happy! It's amazing how much more love having your own family brings into your life. Best thing ever. Hard, very hard (at least it was for me) but sooooo worth it! And if you have any trouble conceiving pop to your doc early. We tried for a year and a half without any luck until I started getting blood tests and turned out I wasn't ovulating. Went on clomid and got pregnant the very next cycle. Could have saved myself months of heartache if I'd just gone to the doc after six months of trying instead!
Religion as described in the west is not the only definition of it. For example there is a 5000 year old Hindu book that questions the existence of higher power... goes something like this - maybe 'god' created humans or humans created 'god' we never know. Buddha and Buddhism subtly rejected 'god' as there is no proof. Only Abrahamic religions (Judaism Christianity Islam) are the only religions with definite concepts and conclusions of the unknown. And coincidentally they are the only two proselytizing religions of the world which means they are the only two religions that go around the world use money, power, manipulation, holy wars/crusades, divide n conquer and other techniques to convert every single person on earth to their respective religions. During the Islamic invasions of India between 9th and 16th centuries 80-100 million Hindus and Buddhists were massacred just because they are not Muslim (Kafirs/unbelievers). The generic term 'religion' has to be looked at in a much more complex way than 'there is no scientific proof so I am not going to follow it'. There is much more to it especially when it comes to differences between 3 Abrahamic religions and the rest of the ancient beliefs.

Love you so much Chloe 💕 been following you for ages. Im actually majoring in Biology so I totally respect your scientific/logical thinking. For me, however, seeing the perfection of our universe and delving into the complicated depths of science, formulas and algorithms, it has forced me to believe there must be a higher power. Everything is too orderly. A universe could not, in my mind, have created itself and also all of the consistent rules that go with it. Just my opinion :) thought I would share a different mindset!

Things appear to have order, because we apply order to them. If we did not the state of the universe would appear entirely entropic. However, the universe does not abide by any one set of rules. If anything, the more we learn about how the universe functions, the more arbitrary and disorderly it all appears. We have barely begun to refine our understanding of multiple dimensions, antimatter, quantum physics, etc. We attempt to because we are human and we try to make sense of things. It's what we do, and it's worked out pretty well for us sure. But to discard the power of human curiosity, and to leave it to some sort of higher power coordinating everything seems silly to me and people like Chloe. The fact that we are matter that has evolved into a state of self awareness is a far more compelling argument towards the application of the divine on to the unknown.

I just seem to be more partial to the notion that science explains life and that a higher power, to me, explains science. Physical sciences don't exist without rules. Rules of matter, motion, thermodynamics. Just the idea that us, as humans, can come up with constants for values such as gravity, Avogadro's number, etc. that govern the world we live in to some degree had been able to convince many scientists that we must live in an orderly 'world'. The simple fact that we can plug values into a physics formula riddled with constants and output an accurate distance, time, or other numerical value is astonishing and also indicative of an orderly universe. This is the type of 'order' I am talking about - the fact that there are numerical patterns behind the way the world functions! But I really enjoy learning about how other people feel on this subject and, once more, respect your opinion completely 😊

Sure. What you are describing is akin to that of the Fine-tuned Universe theory. Math and science are absolutely the pinnacles of human civilization because they help us understand and quantify certain processes of the universe we inhabit. Our ability to quantify something is, again, to me a testament to the grandiosity of human curiosity and not so much a testament to the divine. Chloe, good luck with starting a family! My Bub is now three and a half months old and I never thought I could be so happy! It's amazing how much more love having your own family brings into your life. Best thing ever. Hard, very hard (at least it was for me) but sooooo worth it! And if you have any trouble conceiving pop to your doc early. We tried for a year and a half without any luck until I started getting blood tests and turned out I wasn't ovulating. Went on clomid and got pregnant the very next cycle. Could have saved myself months of heartache if I'd just gone to the doc after six months of trying instead!
Religion as described in the west is not the only definition of it. For example there is a 5000 year old Hindu book that questions the existence of higher power... goes something like this - maybe 'god' created humans or humans created 'god' we never know. Buddha and Buddhism subtly rejected 'god' as there is no proof. Only Abrahamic religions (Judaism Christianity Islam) are the only religions with definite concepts and conclusions of the unknown. And coincidentally they are the only two proselytizing religions of the world which means they are the only two religions that go around the world use money, power, manipulation, holy wars/crusades, divide n conquer and other techniques to convert every single person on earth to their respective religions. During the Islamic invasions of India between 9th and 16th centuries 80-100 million Hindus and Buddhists were massacred just because they are not Muslim (Kafirs/unbelievers). The generic term 'religion' has to be looked at in a much more complex way than 'there is no scientific proof so I am not going to follow it'. There is much more to it especially when it comes to differences between 3 Abrahamic religions and the rest of the ancient beliefs.
