Beethoven's late string quartets are often rated as his best work, and I have a love of them. But then famous conductor Toscanini is reputed to have said "Written by a deaf man to be listened to by a deaf man".. Of course Toscanini knew better, but yes they are not so easy on the ear as the Moonlight.
I'll never forget crying to Beethoven's 5th piano concerto 2nd mvt in 2017. one of the only works of music that has made me cry like it did really. My mom had just gotten diagnosed with cancer (thankfully she's cancer free and alive and well now.) but, the 2nd movement to the 5th piano concerto along with the diagnosis really hit my emotions hard then. I'm glad that movement made the list of top 20.

Thank you! Beethoven is one of my all time favourite composers. I recently saw a live performance of Beethoven's 5th symphony transcribed for solo piano by Franz Liszt. It was so powerful. The way Liszt approached writing it, made me realize just how much respect he had for Beethoven. I think that the integrity of Beethoven was preserved and respected, and he didn't Lisztify it too much, if that is even a word 🤣.

Symphony 9, Appasionata, Tempest and Moonlight.
Mine oughta be the Ninth, or should I say Ode to Joy.
String quartet no. 14. It's his single darkest piece (in my opinion)
Symphony 9
Pathétique,Kreutzer and Waldstein, and I'm suprised that Symphony No.5 wasn't top1😲😆
