Rahdo the thing that makes you such a great reviewer is that you have an emotional side to you. I'm sure that's why Jen loves you! Don't ever feel ashamed to cry on camera. You nearly made me tear up!
I love the stuff you do. So useful, and this play through was brilliant. And getting attached to the story of a meeple isn't a negative - you just come across as a nice, thoughtful guy. Thanks for taking the time to do these.
Just bought The Village second hand. Eager to play. Especially after this great review. I hope tissues are included in the box, because I 'm a weeper too.
Good final thoughts! Since I have 2 kids under 2, I usually play board games with my wife- so I appreciate reviews that are directed towards the two player perspective!
Please believe that I don't mean this in an unkind way at all, but my boyfriend and I laughed until we nearly cried at your "redemption of the meeple" story. So Cute!
***** Oh you really should! It changes the game almost completely and equals the point generation difference between journey and market actions (with the downside that the games point mechanisms are now centered around the market and journey scoring isn't a complete separate mechanism like it was before). But the best part are the silver and especially the gold life goals, which can really change the way you play (although they do not give players variable powers they have the power to change a players playing style and I really think of them as a victory point version of Eminent Domain's scenario cards or Tzolkin's starting income tiles). In my opinion the second expansion increases the replayability even more than the first one already did and I really hope you find the time once to play the game with it :-)...
I saw one of your most recent video where you feature all your collection of board games and i dont remember seeing village in them. You traded village away?
Richard Guidote yup, i talked a bout why i think both in the original village runthrough and also in this video. they dying meeples made jen said, so it's not a keeper, inspite of its brilliance!
oh yeah. :D Jen doesnt like those kind of stuff. I do understand her sentiments. Anyway, moving forward. hoping for more great reviews on the games you just acquired.
Kudos to the run-through and even more for saying that your emotional. Society wants men to be emotionless and I hate that, I wish I could show more emotion just ask my wife :). Nice going, I love all of your run-throughs. Its like I miss a friend when I miss a week and not watch one of your videos. All though it would be better on my wallet if I stop watching ;).
I just love Village, recently i bought the port and the first try was awful :P Are you planning on getting one for yourself? I would love to see you playing it or talking about it. Cheers from Perú
Getting attached to your family members in Village because you know they will have to die? Not ridiculous. See also: Not being able to feed your family during the harvest in Agricola. I seriously hope they never make a version of that game where your family members are represented by something other than a geometric shape. That game is stressful enough without more drama.
Don't dis ameritrash! That said, Tom was wrong on this one. Nothing boring about this euro. If only my wife would play it with me. She'd love the theme but I think it'd just be too heavy for her. Carcassonne is just about her limit.
cindy tang I always look up reviews from different people and even though I also really like ameritrash I do not always agree with Tom Vasel. I think what is missing from many euro-games is a strong theme and that is probably why I tend like ameritrash a little more. Luckily Village has theme in spades while still being a really solid engine building, cubepushing eurogame.

Richard is an example of a truly good soul.
Games that evoke an emotional response is rare.
Great summary and really evocative runthrough. Thanks!
Never be ashamed of empathy! Great review

Your more awesome than you were awesomely 5 minutes ago, just finished with Final thoughts!!
I loved that emotional part of this review. :)

That's pretty cool to have moments like that. :)
Great stuff Richard...Love you man!

Another great run through, I am torn between Village and Macao...........
Great runthrough. I'd like to have seen it till the end of the game, but i guess that would have been to long.
Have you played the other expansion village port yet? Wondered how it interacted...
Ryan Werry nope haven't tried it!

Just realized that 4 years have passed since you did this :') Hope you still like it
i loved it but it wasn't the game for jen (my wife) so away it went
Furtunately mine loves it :=)
Aww, y'all are cute. Peace to the meeple. :) (If someone makes fun of you about almost crying about a board game I'll punch them. That's unkind.)
Fan A 👍🏼

tom vasel say the core game is another boring euro game. wahahaha. it seems like he prefer another boring dice rolling ameritrash game.
