Solidus was a fantastic villain, but his mere existence was kind of a plot hole. Solid Snake had been trained by Big Boss when they were at FOXHOUND and Snake fought him at least twice, whereas Liquid had been trained by Big Boss for several years and hated him to an obsessive point. Why didn't either of them recognize Solidus as Big Boss' perfect clone during his tenure as President of the US? Didn't they even suspect it?
My guess would be that during his presidency, his appearance was altered *just* enough. The Patriots were about absolute manipulation and that wouldn't be a stretch for them.
According to the metal gear encyclopedia and the novelisation, he wore suits that were too big and wore heavy layers of make up and was kept underweight and frail, hence why he needed the exoskeleton suit that he wore in the big shell. It's kinda hard to tell what is canon and what isn't when it comes to that encyclopedia and the novels... Especially the graphic novels, they were an absolute mess
MGS2 and Death Stranding are my favourite Kojima projects because of said "flaws and oddities". I love the rest of his work as well but they don't hit as hard as those 2 for me

Personally, I’d consider the game’s themes and Raiden’s arc. Raiden’s arc, like Solid Snake in MGS1, is learning the truth and learning to fight for an idea bigger than yourself. President Johnson wanted to create a legacy, be a good President and be remembered, but the Patriots didn’t need that from him. You have to remember that for all of MGS2, all Raiden is, is a pawn. Even that final cutscene acknowledges the Patriots won today, and while Solid Snake offers his condolences, he gives Raiden the choice of fighting on for something he can believe in; destroying the Patriots, or he can go and lead a normal life of ignorance, but his time as a simple cog in the machine is over.
If you don't think this was a serious Nostradamus move on Kojima's part, listen to the codec calls later on in the game. One of the calls literally uses the same words as our overlords like to use today. "Don't be silly. What we plan to do is not to control content, but to create context." Zuckerberg? Dorsey? Metal Gear Solid 2 is a game that the world wasn’t ready for, we weren’t skeptical enough as a people. But now, after years 9/11 coverups, seemingly endless meaningless war in the Middle East and being raised with countless conspiracy theories (whether true or bs) we start to understand the message Kojima was sending all the way back at the start of the new millennium. We are now living in the predicted future that is so full of fake news/online overuse that people’s digital footprints have become so big that we often can’t tell real from fake. MGS1 will always be the most nostalgic for me, I think 2 has become the true masterpiece both in gameplay/presentation (which it always was) but now also in its narrative.
I must’ve watched Futurama too much because every time President Johnston says “This is the new Metal Gear” I expect a Nixon- like jowl movement (at “Metal Gear”).
When I first played this game and when I finally beat it for the first time long ago it was mind blowing for sure. Hideo Kojima is one brilliant story teller and it shows by the Great Metal Gear franchise and other great games he's also made. This scene explains that the patriots aka the bankers, corporatons, central bankers own the usa and so do the wealthy elite. Metal gear solid 2 taught me quite a lot about politics and a few other topics as well. This scene is powerful and one of the best scenes in the whole game.
The same reason nobody recognises Clark Kent as Superman in DC comics. Imagine living in the word of Metal Gear during the political career of George Sears, some cookie cutter charismatic white guy. You try to link him & Big Boss via photo comparisons. The same way people in our world have tried to link Justin Trudeau & Fidel Castro that way. Or Trump, Bush, Clinton, Obama & any number of people. Just like in our world, anyone in the America of Metal Gear would be laughed out of the room. It's not so far fetched.
Big boss wasnt known to the public that well. If he was he was probably brought up as a US special forces soldier turned 3rd world dictator. Not mention he was older by the time of Zanzibar and had an eye patch. Where as Solidus Snakes's presidential term took place during the time of MGS1 and one could argue he probably looked younger and didn't have an eye patch.

He is referring to the patriots(Submission) and Solidus(Rebellion) but what is the connection between them(the words)? Prez means that without free will all is pointless? Surely l missed something or missed between the lines. But this quote still rings true as every line in this game, in our era.
I think he means basically, that once free will is gone even rebellion to the governing body can be crafted into controlled opposition. What appears to be an organic movement masquerading as the new solution, is actually the same people as before, but with new clothes. Arguments are crafted for the populus and handed out like brochures to specific groups, like scripts to a play, resulting in picking sides, and further dividing us, subsequently making us much easier to control, and further pulling us away from any potential organic revolution by the people. Only " controlled" revolutions.

patriots was a group of human. some of them are the characters we encountered in mgs 3 like, Major Zero, Sigint (DARPA), and paramedic. they want to make a world unite as a whole by controlling the flow of information to the masses. now that most patriots are dead (Zero still alive but vegetables) their thought and goal are still regulated but few AI's, namely GW and JD. the AI destroyed here is the GW.

They tell the public it was a missile test. There's no need for a civilian to know the existance of shadow mosses. Or in mgs 2, the existance of arsenal gear is covered up such that even though they build it in the middle of manhattan, no one will notice. Later in mgs 4 the system become more absurd, its no longer creating context, the AI actually regulate human emotion from nanomachines...by then it was no longer the patriots, but the AI that the patriots created going on its own directive.
In MGS2 they were ethereal memes (memes as in the concept of culture that spreads, copies itself, and changes over time, much like genes, not memes as in internet jokes) that manifested both through AIs and political, military and economic influential americans, shaping the countries decisions as a cultural entity. After MGS4, they were retconned into 4 supercomputers built by Big Boss' CO, a British special forces guy, to control the US and take over the world, because he was sad Big Boss' mentor/lover/mother figure died like a badass.

Personally, I’d consider the game’s themes and Raiden’s arc.
Raiden’s arc, like Solid Snake in MGS1, is learning the truth and learning to fight for an idea bigger than yourself.
President Johnson wanted to create a legacy, be a good President and be remembered, but the Patriots didn’t need that from him.
You have to remember that for all of MGS2, all Raiden is, is a pawn. Even that final cutscene acknowledges the Patriots won today, and while Solid Snake offers his condolences, he gives Raiden the choice of fighting on for something he can believe in; destroying the Patriots, or he can go and lead a normal life of ignorance, but his time as a simple cog in the machine is over.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is a game that the world wasn’t ready for, we weren’t skeptical enough as a people. But now, after years 9/11 coverups, seemingly endless meaningless war in the Middle East and being raised with countless conspiracy theories (whether true or bs) we start to understand the message Kojima was sending all the way back at the start of the new millennium. We are now living in the predicted future that is so full of fake news/online overuse that people’s digital footprints have become so big that we often can’t tell real from fake. MGS1 will always be the most nostalgic for me, I think 2 has become the true masterpiece both in gameplay/presentation (which it always was) but now also in its narrative.

I must’ve watched Futurama too much because every time President Johnston says “This is the new Metal Gear” I expect a Nixon- like jowl movement (at “Metal Gear”).
When I first played this game and when I finally beat it for the first time long ago it was mind blowing for sure. Hideo Kojima is one brilliant story teller and it shows by the Great Metal Gear franchise and other great games he's also made. This scene explains that the patriots aka the bankers, corporatons, central bankers own the usa and so do the wealthy elite. Metal gear solid 2 taught me quite a lot about politics and a few other topics as well. This scene is powerful and one of the best scenes in the whole game.
Patriots are not "bankers" you dope. You'll understand someday (probably not dope).

I think he means basically, that once free will is gone even rebellion to the governing body can be crafted into controlled opposition. What appears to be an organic movement masquerading as the new solution, is actually the same people as before, but with new clothes. patriots was a group of human. some of them are the characters we encountered in mgs 3 like, Major Zero, Sigint (DARPA), and paramedic. they want to make a world unite as a whole by controlling the flow of information to the masses. now that most patriots are dead (Zero still alive but vegetables) their thought and goal are still regulated but few AI's, namely GW and JD. the AI destroyed here is the GW.

@@JukemDrawles87 the patriots believe that they should create context, it means that they will use the media to feed masses certain information to drive the humanity towards "advancement", for example at the end of mgs 1, shadow mosses was bombed so what do they do? They tell the public it was a missile test. There's no need for a civilian to know the existance of shadow mosses. Or in mgs 2, the existance of arsenal gear is covered up such that even though they build it in the middle of manhattan, no one will notice. Later in mgs 4 the system become more absurd, its no longer creating context, the AI actually regulate human emotion from nanomachines...by then it was no longer the patriots, but the AI that the patriots created going on its own directive.
In MGS2 they were ethereal memes (memes as in the concept of culture that spreads, copies itself, and changes over time, much like genes, not memes as in internet jokes) that manifested both through AIs and political, military and economic influential americans, shaping the countries decisions as a cultural entity.
After MGS4, they were retconned into 4 supercomputers built by Big Boss' CO, a British special forces guy, to control the US and take over the world, because he was sad Big Boss' mentor/lover/mother figure died like a badass.
