- So I decided to pull it apart and give it a clean. It proved very awkward with the valve gear and impossible to film that bit. Needless to say it was difficult!
It does run smoother now it's clean. As always, 99% of your running problems are going to be dirt.

Slow running and crawling was much improved. I suspect when it became jerky due to dirt the previous owner drowned it in oil. Very good at collecting more dirt!
Patience of a saint Simon, well done. Ron
And off camera with my struggles of sorting out the valve gear - the mouth of a Dutch Bargee!
Always great to see a loco serviced and running beautifully again.
I wasn't very brave in pulling it apart. Probably for the best, hunting for brushes in the carpet is not fun.
Hi Simon, I bet that was a relief once you got it back together, some sage advice too. It looks like it runs really well now. Well done. All the best!!
It took a good half hour David. Not a job I'm eager to do again. Rund much better at slow speeds now. Cheers.
Good job🚂👍👍👍.
Greetings Gert
Cheers. Always nice to get them running better at slow speeds.
You struggle with Thai, and yet talk about "worm drives", "brushes" and "commutators"!!!!??? 😂😂😂 What I know is that it's running rather better than it did last week, before its service!!! Well done! Nice to see it running pulling a load of freight behind it, and not baulking at the points before and in the Main station. Good stuff!
The slow running is much better. Just getting off all that oil was a help. I wasn't keen to take more parts off it to investigate further. I obviously got the rods all back together but with more swear words than a Dutch Bargee! Hopefully it wont need a clean for a couple of years!
Just watched it on my personal account. Great video. I, too, have an older Farish Prarie. I bought it broken on eBay and was able to fix it up a little. It's not a smooth runner at all, I need to revisit it and see what all can be done to improve its performance.
Dirt is the killer. Getting the valve gear back together was fun. And lengthy with lots of 4 letter words.
@ngaugeonashelf4417 That is what's kept me from revisiting it. Unfortunately, I'm almost positive the valve gear is my problem. It was bent on both sides when I received it. I did my best to straighten out, but you can still tell it's been tampered with.
@@NGaugeUSA The metal rods coming out of the plastic piston casing were bent on mine. I had to get them very straight and spaced correctly. It still looks not quite right but I guess that's the cheapness of the older models. Just ordered a GWR Grange 68xx from Osborns. I think I'm going to get a Manor, Hall and Castle to go with it over time. Farish made a King class some years back but it doesn't have traction tyres or is very detailed. Not sure I will get one of those.
Can you you leave the cylinder bit on my loco needs a good clean
Sorry, it was difficult to film. In fact mine has just jammed solid. I will repair it and sell it.
