When Rod Steward sings a standard, he does it right. Perfect tempo and a rendition that calls to mind all the great times you have heard it before. He doesn't try to add annoying new wrinkles. It's a standard because we like it the way we remember it.
Actually Not. He is going through it too fast, he is not laid back, he lacks Swing, He does not master the piece. Jazz ballads are Not that easy to master, He should have practised more. I still Love him and his Joke and Performance are still great.
I also love the way he sings and the lovely arrangements , he is a singer that makes a great connection with the listener. It would be great to say hello as we used to go out together. Ann

Perfect whisper. He didn't prettify it, or touch it up. He sang it with raw emotion and perfect timing. He sounds like he's about to burst into tears and that makes it so lovely.
