I read a book of collected Vets recollections. It was simply called “Nam”. I guess some of these men may have contributed to it. Good book, well worth a read, and most illuminating. My favourite tale was one lad, newly home, standing in an airport in his uniform, was accosted by a long haired girl, who asked him how many women and children he’d killed, and he calmly replied “nine..where’s your mother at?”

Glad to see these great Old boys telling their stories, it should be preserved as a message n Lesson for all who seek war, this is good for the Soul, and very Inspiring to think deeper, Sadly all for nothing was the War over what an airstrip?... the USA made an arrogant mistake, n got whipped pretty bad, sad to say.. Great documentary. Thank you. These guys are my age. I was NOT drafted. I just drew a lucky number in Nixon's draft lottery, end of '69. I guess 'the luck of the draw,' as they say. I admire these guys, though, as I do many of my friends who were drafted, did go to Vietnam, etc. May they all enjoy their elder years!
Vietnam Vets deserves/deserved better from “us” United States! It wasn’t their fault, they went and did what they were told! They were/are soldiers, but men/women first! For me I’m in my early 50’s and say “Thank you for your service, and apologize for the way you were treated when you returned!” God Bless, YWilson (military son)
Imagine growing up under the “greatest generation” that came home as heroes with parades, support, etc. Their children grew up in their footsteps only to return home to the opposite. Can’t believe how awful these veterans must have felt to have “done the right thing” that they were raised to value: military service. That is why I go out of my way to welcome them home decades later. I hate war, but these men were witness to great traumas that were never addressed stateside.
It boggles my mind that someone would spit on a young man who might've seen his friends get killed, and might have had to kill someone himself for that matter, and treat him worse than garbage. And even though i'm not American i can't help but feel thankful towards these men and their service.
you didn't lose your soul sir, you lost your innocence. you never get that back unless somehow the awful memories of what you had to survive goes away. ty for your service to America. if I had my way you'd be guaranteed a home and never pay income tax again.
Pat Fuller was one of my best friends in high school, ended up in the Rangers, never came home to his mom and dad, sister and the rest of us. I am truly glad he cannot see videos of veterans buying ice cream cones from a street vendor in Ho Chi Minh City. Yeah, thanks for saving us from communism.
To not support these man once they came home should be punishable, I am so sad to hear this..The sacrifice and horror they went through for us, they should be given the world. Thank you so much guys for what you did for your country. it’s not your fault it was bullshit.
So the Vietnam vets were treated like dirt ...basically for following orders and doing as they were told by their superiors...BUT the politicians that started the war and made money off the war were treated with respect and routinely reelected...the same career politicians we reelect today....the results speek for themselves...my heart goes out to all veterans who served this country....WE THANK U..
I joined the Army in 1969. I was 17 years old. I was retired on a medical physical disability rating in 1971, I was 19 years old. One day, while on Ft. Sam Houston, just before I retired. I happened to find a soldier standing on the sidewalk. He looked like shit. He looked like he had just come out of the jungle. I immediately stepped up and asked him what the fuck was going on. He looked at me, and said he had just been flown in directly from Vietnam. That he had come in from a patrol and told he was going home, driven to the air base, and put on a plane. Next thing he knew, he was being taken to our unit, the medical holding detachment. I told him to follow me, I took him to our company 1st sargent and we explained the situation. We got him a bed in the Barracks and a shower and new clothes. Then I drove him to our mess hall where he ate and fell asleep at the table. I could not bring myself to wake him up. I explained to the mess hall sargent, and I sat there for 2 hours as he slept. We got his situation corrected and he was soon flying to his real home. I will never forget him standing. Lots of men cycled through Beach Pavillion every day, new wounded coming in, old guys being retired on disability ratings. It never stopped. The wounded never stopped being flown in. Then, 1975. The "war" was "over". We lost. All that was left were thousands & thousands of messed up vets. It was such a waste land of broken bodies & wounded souls. God bless the men & women who served time in Vietnam.
It's such a shame that those returning from combat were spit on etc. Imagine that, you come from the jungle, watching your friends die, and they just spit on you because of their ideology. Take it out on the decision makers, not the warriors.
I respect all victims of the American War in Vietnam. The first victims were the naive kids just graduating highschool who believed the lies of our leaders. The second victims were of course the millions of Vietnamese who lost there lives fighting for Independence going all the way back to 1877.
I truely appreciate everything you men have done... I could not imagine coming home from Afghanistan and being treated the way you were. I pray those people know what they did was wrong and have repented and realized they're pieces of shit. (hopefully a few ODs).
WW2 veterans slowly starting to die off. Next will be the guys that went to Korea, and then the Vietnam veterans. I think it is really interesting and educative to hear their stories
keep your mouth shut let your hair grows That's good ones Thank you But all of us kept fighting when you left Few of us lucky were lucky got out the there , very few
After My buddy and I left the plane in California we were getting into a taxi, a guy spit at my foot. I'm positive the guy had to have stiches above his right eye.
The guy who wants those who insulted the returning men to apologise should know that there is at least one video here on YT where an anti-war woman does apologise for her behaviour, many years later.

15:25 This one struck accord, as did all of their stories. I've never served, though I know that freedoms we take for granted are defended and fought for by service men and women like you. Thank you, and sorry for what was done.
Imagine fighting for your life in a hellish place far from home, losing friends in grisly ways, maybe losing a limb or two, then to come home and have a bunch of ignorant rubes spit at you. What a horrific concept
You didnt see me in jail so you know i didnt get spit on.
What a mad lad 👍👍
I encourage all of these young people today that talk bad about our soldiers, to watch this series. You may find something in it.
I have respect for ALL Veterans...I always have.
This series was very well made.
Deep respect for all veterans 🙌🏻
So sad what they came home too ...you can see on all of them how much that hurt them..I hope they have been hounered since..the way they should have been when they came home from what must have been living hell...they where just so young and doing what was expected from them..trying to stay alive..
i love and respect all veterans, but especially the vietnam vets, i appreciate their sacrifice and i am ashamed of the us that treated these heros the way they did when they returned to the states. these vets deserve to be taken care of the rest of their lives!
Bless all who fell +
God bless these men
I had similar issues when I got back from Afghanistan. Nowhere near as bad as the Vam guys, but it was still shocking.
Welcome home. I hope you are healthy and happy.
Thank you for your service.
That's shameful the way the our soldiers were treated when they returned home.
I just meditate and practice slow Tai Chi and other martial arts slow. I have a difficult time doing the real violent stuff.. I have been into martial arts for 33 years. Mike
It's their fault because they carried out the orders but it's also not their fault because they were forced to.
I guess it’s not the Nazi SS soldiers’s fault either
“We paved the way home for other Veterans”
Imagine growing up under the “greatest generation” that came home as heroes with parades, support, etc.
Their children grew up in their footsteps only to return home to the opposite. Can’t believe how awful these veterans must have felt to have “done the right thing” that they were raised to value: military service.
That is why I go out of my way to welcome them home decades later. I hate war, but these men were witness to great traumas that were never addressed stateside.
Thanks to all of you. CWO4 USN RET 73-95.
Saved by a can of peaches. Incredible
It boggles my mind that someone would spit on a young man who might've seen his friends get killed, and might have had to kill someone himself for that matter, and treat him worse than garbage. And even though i'm not American i can't help but feel thankful towards these men and their service.
While the treatment returning soldiers got for the most part was appalling, actually being spat on is an urban myth.
I am a 68 yo Navy Veteran Who salutes every Vietnam Veteran I see
you didn't lose your soul sir, you lost your innocence. you never get that back unless somehow the awful memories of what you had to survive goes away. ty for your service to America. if I had my way you'd be guaranteed a home and never pay income tax again.
Yeah, there's no proof of a soul to exist.
But you probably think they do.
RIP PFC Charles Homer Ball, D Co 1/1; KIA 21Dec66, Operation Shasta II
God Bless all of our Vietnam Veterans!
11:30 very true and wise words
Pat Fuller was one of my best friends in high school, ended up in the Rangers, never came home to his mom and dad, sister and the rest of us. I am truly glad he cannot see videos of veterans buying ice cream cones from a street vendor in Ho Chi Minh City. Yeah, thanks for saving us from communism.
To not support these man once they came home should be punishable, I am so sad to hear this..The sacrifice and horror they went through for us, they should be given the world. Thank you so much guys for what you did for your country. it’s not your fault it was bullshit.
you tell everyone of them men when you meet them WELCOME HOME and SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG
So the Vietnam vets were treated like dirt ...basically for following orders and doing as they were told by their superiors...BUT the politicians that started the war and made money off the war were treated with respect and routinely reelected...the same career politicians we reelect today....the results speek for themselves...my heart goes out to all veterans who served this country....WE THANK U..
You can see it in their eyes, it's real.
Respect
NEVER FORGET !!
Respect.
These poor vets. Fuck they deserve so much better from their country.
Those 122's were deadly
Welcome Home !!!!!
keep your mouth shut
let your hair grows
That's good ones
Thank you
But all of us kept fighting when you left
Few of us lucky were lucky got out the there , very few
After My buddy and I left the plane in California we were getting into a taxi, a guy spit at my foot. I'm positive the guy had to have stiches above his right eye.
heros
9:36 "Get that freaking uniform off". That is the worst thing ever, these guys should have been able to show off. Like the absolute heroes they were
The guy who wants those who insulted the returning men to apologise should know that there is at least one video here on YT where an anti-war woman does apologise for her behaviour, many years later.
