    I live here and that was the scariest thing I’ve ever been through. My daughter still gets freaked out when a loud truck rumbles by. I worked in a pharmacy and I heard what sounded like a train on the tracks. My boss and I looked at each other like what the heck? It felt like a train hit the side of the building with that first jolt. Then it went pitch black in the store. There were screams coming from different directions. It felt like it would never stop. Our backup lights didn’t come on for about 20 minutes. Then a big aftershock hit and scared us to death again. The sprinkler system went off and started flooding the building. I live approximately 5 miles from where I worked and it took me an hour to get home. The traffic was atrocious, I assume everyone was trying to get home. I couldn’t get in touch with my husband and it was about the time he would drop her off at school. I didn’t know if she was there or if they were ok. Fortunately they were on there way out when it happened. As terrifying as it was, we were extremely fortunate that no one was seriously injured nor did anyone die. Structurally we were ok too. Most damage was minimal. It was a 7.1 or 7.2 so it was big. Every time we have a small quake I tell my daughter it’s ok. The little ones are good and they let off the pressure.

      Not sure if you will see this. But I was also there in anchorage during the quake.
      I’m 22 now and still get almost like “ptsd” when I hear a loud car or house settle

      Oh my! I've never been in an earthquake and pray I never do. I'm glad all your family is safe. Take care of one another and may God richly bless you!

      @@cpmvmaker1 Same its kind of like ptsd, I recently moved to fairbanks, and we just had a 4.8. I still was scared cause there may have been more, like the one that came after the 7.1.

      That must've been a horrifying experience for all of you. I hope now that you can all say that your family has been brought closer together by the experience and that your daughter doesn't live in fear anymore

      An magnitude 8 earthquake hasn't hit california for over a century?

    • @ayaanyani5521
      @ayaanyani5521 Рік тому +1

      Magnitude isn't directly relevant to earthquake's damage potential, what is directly relevant is pga(peak ground acceleration) and shaking duration

      Dude I was in this earthquake and the Northridge Quake of 94. 6.7 magnitude and the 10, 14, 210 and 118 freeways had collapses, houses collapsed and exploded when the gas lines ruptured, parking structures at CSUN and the Northridge Mall collapsed, an Apartment Building collapsed and killed 15 people, a hospital on Balboa and Devonshire collapsed.

    • @WillMuny
      @WillMuny 8 місяців тому

      @@ayaanyani5521 True, this one had a peak acceleration of 0.474. By comparison the Northridge Quake had a peak acceleration of 1.82. Depth also has a lot to do with it, this earthquake hit at a depth of 28 miles, the Northridge one hit at 11 miles depth. So a 6.7 can be MUCH more Violent and destructive than a 7.1.

      Also, when was it that the “rating scale” of earthquakes was changed? It could be that the older earthquake you’re referring to was under the old scale.
