Since the 1st season Dean always said he would not live to be a old man and he would die on a hunt. He wanted Sam to get married and have kids. I also like to think when Cas touched Kelly's stomach and Jack showed him paradise, that was actually the new heaven. He did that for Sam and Dean, he knew they wouldn't be happy in a room and not too many good memories to relive. He knew they needed Baby and the open road

I quite literally SOBBED when Dean died. Like full on body racking, sniffling, couldn't catch my breath sobs 😂 I had to pause for a good half an hour and cuss out the show.
I'm still torn about the ending but it was also quite beautiful and this show has just been such an amazing ride that it will forever stay in my heart ❤

Yeah, Deans dead here its random, rushed, dumb even, but i think that's the point, Chuck is no longer writing "there is no writer writing the story"... So there is no Grand Finale, no huge final reveal, no poetic ending or poetic justice, its just a regular hunt where something went wrong, no plot armor, no big sacrifice, no dead of all dead, no hidden meaning, no literary device for the end, cause there isn't supposed to be any literature behind it... it kind of sucks but i absolutely love idea

Thank you for the time and effort you put to these reactions and for choosing to react to this show despite its longevity.
    My thoughts for the finale:
Dean’s death was stupid but I think that was the point. It is proof that their lives and their deaths are no longer controlled by Chuck they no longer have a plot armor and they can have normal (not supernatural, e.g. sickness, accident) even stupid deaths. They gained their freedom but they lost their plot armor. I like the idea that free will comes with a cost, it make sense. If God is intervening to make everything right then there is no free will. If there is free will then there is good and evil and both good and bad things can happen. The same idea was presented in season 5 finale. When Sam died, Dean was angry and Cas told him “you got what you asked for, no paradise no hell, just more of the same, what would you rather have peace or freedom?”
I personally liked the finale, I was not particularly thrilled but I liked it. I would like it better if Eileen was Sam’s wife but they left it open to interpretation, so I choose to believe that it was Eileen, it make sense since they built their romance in the final season. Also it would be cool (and I think more people would enjoy the finale) if we could have the initial script that was planned before covid in which Dean’s heaven would be full of favorite characters that died throughout the show, but due to covid restrictions that scenario was not possible. Yet I think that the show ending with the two brothers the same way it started it’s the best alternative.
Even though I liked the finale I understand why others did not liked it.

I am usually a very emotional person, but, this episode didn't do anything except anger and have me laughing in frustration. The writers could have written a true ending (they said they were) and had the boys living a peaceful life. If only they decided to not kill Dean and instead remove all the Supernatural beings and turned some back to humans at the end of episode 19. We could have had the brothers living and enjoying holidays together, having families. Overall it would have been less cast on set. Jody, Donna and Eileen could have been via telephone and laptop zoom calls to avoid covid restrictions. They had at least 5 children on set anyways so could have been one of their kids. It was a disappointing path they took.
They could have had Castiel go to the bunker and explain to them that monsters were gone, and he had to go back to heaven as Jack was waiting to lock the doors to heaven so Angels cant leave. He says his goodbyes and then we could have gotten small back to back scenes of Sam and Dean in job interviews and leaving the bunker to then have a montage to carry on with the brothers getting married, having kids, enjoying a Christmas, birthdays, graduations (using the extras from pie place and vampires), and then it ends with the brothers driving off for the last time. It wouldn't have been hard to do nor make it hard due to covid. They could have ended it with the brothers in heaven if they were fixated on it still, but after a long peaceful life.
Dean did not need to die because of not being able not hunt. If they decided on him not dying, and removed spirits, demons and monsters. What is he hunting? It's a cop out and it was all for the "Ha that will get them" of the fans. People were fed the covid excuse, that Dean had to die else he would keep hunting line by the show and it's been ran with.
That neglects the very idea that it's the writers that have all the power to how Dean's life could go. The pandemic is not the cure all for bad ideas and writing considering the only things that would have changed in this episode was the lesser amount of vampires in the barn and the montage of past selective characters in a montage while Sam went through his life.
That doesn't change anything for me because they chose to kill Dean instead of giving him a life to live. Sam got a blurry wife (which people like to think is Eileen, but Jared has said it was not Eileen because Dean wouldn't have wanted it.), Sam's home had no pictures of his kid and Wife. Pictures of his parents and brother. it was weird and felt off. I won't go on about the many other issues of the episode except one more.. 7 minutes of Dean talking whilst something was impaling him without blood or any other real sign of significant injury. Oh and the "You can go now" and the ridiculousness of both Sam and Dean both dying on the command of "It's okay you can go now." That makes NO sense.
To find peace, no one has to die. I hope that those who looked to Dean as a symbol to keep fighting in their darkest times didn't give up on the idea that if you keep fighting you'll get out of it and find your peace without dying.
If this is all they could come up with after 15 years of writing for a show about the supernatural, then their imagination isnt worthy to be writers (Dabb looking at you.)

they were going to have John, Marry, Ruffus, and other characters from the roadhouse appear with them in heaven, but they had to change it because of the pandemic because it would have been a lot of people to stay at a hotel for a day or two just to film one scene

I used to hate this episode soley because I thought it favored Sam over Dean, but after thinking it over the years, Sam didn't get a happy ending either. He lived a long life as an old man with no friends and a wife who either died or left him, always haunted by grief over the person that meant the most to him. Sam at least was a good father to Dean Jr, which was the only time he seemed happy, and clearly the only reason he didn't put a bullet in his head, that and the promise to Dean Sr, but he still lived a sad lonely life.
And for those saying Dean Jr mom is Eileen, yeah maybe that's true and maybe they couldn't get her because of Covid, but they clearly got some woman in the background, but since we don't see much of her, only Dean Jr it's not farfetched to assume she died before Sam or left him before he died
    I still hate the episode

The biggest plot hole in this whole finale is why the HELL are the brothers STILL hunting in the first place?!!!! Seriously after all the trauma and hardships and loss they've suffer why didn't they pack up and quite the life?! Dean told Jack a few episodes ago that he as ready for a normal life and he even said in this one that he and Sam should live their lives for Jack & Cas who couldn't be there with them, so how is risking their lives hunting honoring them?! Ghost Dean telling Sam to live a normal life sounds dumb and redundant even if it is perfectly acted, because why the hell couldn't Sam have just done that while Dean was alive? They beat God their free they've said they were ready to retire so why didn't they? And don't use season 6 as an example, yes Dean struggled to live a normal life but that was partially due to him knowing his brother was in hell and struggling to quite a lifestyle he's had since he was 4, but with both brothers together they could clearly adjust to it! And yes Dean was looking and a construction job but he & Sam were still hunting, they should've left the bunker after beating God and looked for normal jobs then, it makes no sense for them to still be hunting!

I personally think Deans death is perfect. The only way Dean would ever be okay with death is if it was by doing what he loves most which is hunting. And the only reason him and sam came back all those times was cause God wrote it that way, once chuck was defeated, Dean dies immediately and with all the crazy plot deaths they've had, Dean dying in a random hunt is the best death for him in my opinion

A lot of people forget, no more plot armor for dean and Sam, no more god to intervene and bring them back, no more interference. So for me the ending was Ok, it made me mad don’t get me wrong, but I understand it because Jack said he won’t interfere, he won’t be the God Chuck was. It makes sense honestly.

I liked this episode. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst. The majority of reasons people gave for not liking the finale was because the show didn't end the way they wanted it to, which ironically is how Chuck wanted it to end too. And that is precisely one of the reasons why this finale ended the way it did.

    • @debbiewoweries9912
      @debbiewoweries9912 5 місяців тому +2

@@meganlodon I have no problem with anyone liking the finale (even though it is the worst episode of any tv show I have ever watched and I really don't get why people like it) but this episode was literally Chuck's ending in a softer way. If you remember Becky's speech she mentions that there's no Cas and that he can't do this to the fans and he plans on having the winchesters die. So this ending is literally Chuck's ending only that the brothers didn't kill each other.

    • @meganlodon
      @meganlodon 5 місяців тому +4

@@debbiewoweries9912 Yes, but those two things were unavoidable. Cas would die eventually as there is no escape from the Empty, and the boys aren't immortal. The whole point of Chuck's endings are them as monsters or going against each other, which is what I'm referring to. Dean's death was anti-climactic and Sam died of old-age, both endings that Chuck didn't want for the boys.

I understand why people hate this finale but I liked it because it showed that Dean was just a regular hunter, whose life should have ended years ago technically at the beginning of season 2. Both brothers were the toys of a narcissistic god and while they may have been complacent if they kept living on the road hunting together I prefer this because it grounds the show in reality. Death IRL is often sudden and unfair-I really appreciate how much I feel that here. The only real bummer is that COVID meant they could not do more with guest appearances but it is nothing that they could help.

Cas SHOULD NOT be there. The show began with just the brothers and that's how it HAD to end, Besides, Misha Collins had just had a hip replacement and physically couldn't be there.
THE COLT FUCKING MELTED BACK IN S12!!!!!
I personally like this episode for what it is due to the constraints they were under. Dean always had to die. Bringing back the random Jenny was confusing though.
If they had not shown Dean in Heaven right after showing Sam's sadness, I think the impact of Dean's death would've been better. We could've had more questions answered, like who did Sam marry? Did Dean Jr know about hunting? Is anyone taking over the Bunker?
And that Neoni version of 'Carry On' was a DISGRACE to Kansas. 1 - it's terrible; 2 - the Kansas version should've been the last version heard.

With my experience as someone who has seen the show 24 times, from start to finish, yes, I have nothing else to do in life hahaha, I'm going to try to clarify a few points that I've seen in the media or heard from the actors or crew themselves out there
Many things couldn't go to the finale, because the actors at that point, were confined together, and someone tested positive, then there would be no way to add more actors with them, , We also would have the characters of Mary, John, Rufus, and even surprise characters, like Bela Talbot (Lauren Cohan), who made a deal with Crowley and didn't die, we would have Uriel back, and even other angels, the story would be great, but they had to cut everything.
As for Dean's death, that was to show that there was a plot armor, or god armor, as soon as chuck lost his powers, they became real people, and what made Dean always do well, was the plot, after all he was always hot-headed, and would go at his enemies guns blazing, Sam was always the calmer, more observant one, and of course, all of this was very disrespectful to the fans and also to the character, and it took a LONG conversation with the creator, Erik Kripke, to convince Jensen that it was an ending that made sense But even so, this led Jensen to make the series “THE WINCHESTERS” which is basically a way of correcting Dean's situation... but no spoilers
Sam's brain has always been protected by chuck, hahaha
And the colt was useless there, against God, or angels, or archangels,
which was basically the moment we were
Crowley's actor demanded that the producers put his name on the DVDs and stuff and also put him as Regular (same as Misha), but this angered them and they claimed they couldn't afford to pay for him to continue in the series, so they killed off Crowley.
all this information can be found in videos from conventions or podcasts, they are very open about it, and how they would like to do something better, we even have supposedly a possible 16 season to come, Jared and jensen said for fans to stay tuned, because for them it was like the end of Game of thrones
Thanks for the Jorney brother, love every single reaction

The show began with Sam and Dean and ended with Sam and Dean. Supernatural was always about the brothers and their bond.
The secondary characters were of no importance other than to illustrate that brotherly relationship even more.
Even Dean's dying words confirmed it.
"It was always... you and... me."

If the show made you reflect on how you would feel in Sam's situation, then I think it was a success. At first, I felt like everyone else that Dean's death was anticlimactic, but my feelings changed. It was a realistic death, a stupid accident of bad luck and bad timing, without Chuck to intervene. To my surprise, it was Sam that I grieved for, knowing that he had to live for years without the person he loved the most. Covid interfered with the planned ending of bringing back much of the cast along with Kansas performing Wayward Son. I prefer the simplicity of this ending. The show was about the Winchester brother's relationship and their decisions to act to save each despite potential disastrous consequences. I came to approve of the way the episode played out. With the exceptions of seasons 7 and 14, I enjoyed Supernatural. It is the only show I rewatch frequently. There won't be another one like it.
BTW, DJ Qualls and Ty Olsson just announced their engagement.

I know there are a lot of strong feelings about this episode. Some love it, some loathe it, some are traumatized by it. And i know Covid impacted a lot. The end was supposed to have everyone (mostly except Cas for reasons i imagine) and a dead Kansas playing Carry On. Mostly I just thought it was boring and predictable and lackluster. And weird. Why were there still monsters anyway? Whatever happened to Eileen?
I would have preferred an epic ending or truly tragic (aka Swan Song) And it should've hit me emotionally but it didn't. Although I do understand and appreciate your emotional response - it's hard not to equate this with real life loss.
Anyway, really appreciate your reactions to this even if I didn't always agree lol. So thank you!

Awesome! I am going to miss watching Supernatural with you, you have entertained me. I am impressed on how you (after only a year and a few months) was able to 'get' this finale better than most. When you said your emotion isn't even about the episode, yet it hit (and what appeared to be pretty hard) was in my opinion what this meant to so many of us that spent all that time of our lives ( oh and I loved the break down on how much was spent watching this in real time) as well as all the little gifts from the aliases to a background 'extras'. The only problem I had with Deans death was that on first watch it one took forever, two felt more like Jared/Jensen saying goodbye to Jensen/Dean/Jared/Sam than the characters saying goodbye. It got better the more times I watched it. I look forward to your ratings/awards (altho I still don't know how people do that) the bloopers and any cons you might watch. You do know you could spend another year easy doing that :P Also maybe new shows. Thank you for sharing this with us!

another thought. I view episode 19 as the series finale. This was an episode for closure for the boys, the fans, the family. Just to say goodbye. As special as this show was it was the off screen relationships that made it all means something and that needed a special episode.

I know this isn't a popular opinion.. I find it kind of appropriate that they chose to end with a monster of the week episode.. their roots.
I loved seeing Miracle.. loved the pie scene.. even didn't mind the Jenny call back to their very first vampire case.
I love that Dean's still combining monster names.
side bar: a good portion of the population gained weight those first few months of covid.. Not those two boys.. Jared even looks thinner.
back to our regularly scheduled novelette of a comment.
That piece of rebar.. I always picture some set decorating person giggling at the phallic shape it made.. Dean got fu**ed.
I agree, Dean's death should have been bigger.
I was a big snotty mess for that bm scene.
I love that Sam kept Miracle.. Cas was right way back in season 7.. they were short one species.
great catch on Baby's license plate.. and now I wonder if Jensen, when he got Baby home in TX, if he applied to get that number as a vanity plate.
That last scene in the barn.. there's a whole bunch of bts info.. but I think it's better to let you digest for a bit with the characters rather than the actors/crew/sets etc.
That said, the last episode was supposed to be way bigger.. Kansas, the band was ready to get on a plane to film. as the house band in Harvells, the bar in heaven that covid stole from the show. Everybody was supposed to be in heaven for the end.
Out there in youtubeland.. there is a playlist of every con the boys have done.. wanna keep the spn audience.. that's your ticket... and they're fun.
There's actually one on this weekend...in Jersey.
Happy 31st when it happens. By the time my dad was your age, he had his first three little ones running around.

I haven't watched your reaction yet, but before I do I wanna share my thoughts on the finale. I think it's the absolute perfect ending for both of the boys. Dean has always said he'd go out fighting, just more of the same (as Cas said back in the S5 finale, "you got what you asked for, just more of the same.... what would you rather have, peace? or freedom?"; and here he got both freedom AND peace), and he did. Sam has always (not really said, but implied) that he wanted to live a full and normal life, and he did. They both got what they wanted, and ended up together in the end with peace and happiness together. I will NEVER understand the hate for this finale, and I know a lot of people really didn't like it, but for me it makes perfect sense and wraps up the show in the most logical and sensical way, otherwise it would've gone on forever and never had a true conclusion. Tbh I'm a little intoxicated at the time of making this comment, so I'll end my rambling here, but I could go on for hours about how ridiculous people are about saying this was a bad ending. It wasn't... it fits the show, it fits the brothers, it works.
And the whole thing about "why were they still hunting in the first place?"... well that's their job. Saving people and hunting things, the family business. It's who they are and there's no changing that. It's just this time around, there wasn't any "Chuck luck", so shit happens. Yeah, the episode itself wasn't the best it could've been, simply due to covid restrictions, but I still really enjoy it and think it ended in the best way possible.
But, Jared and Jensen have hinted numerous times about a reunion and continuation of the show. Idk how it would work, but the door's always open and I'll definitely be there to see it. It's been a great ride Jer, I've enjoyed (most) of your reactions to this show, as well as previous shows, and I can't wait to see what journey you take next. Honestly I think you would really enjoy revisiting and finishing TWD, it really is a great show. Btw, I hope you react to the blooper reels bc they're hilarious!

The first time I saw Dean's death I spiraled (like everything around me started spinning) for many reasons. 1. I knew in that moment it was Deans final death, no coming back from this one 😭 2. Their goodbye was beautiful and 3. The way he died was SUCH BS. I was heartbroken by how they killed him. I understood he had to die and maybe they were playing off the fact that they weren't "written as heros from god" anymore but he deserves so much more of an honorable death then what they gave him. It was downright disrespectful. (Take into consideration that I spiraled because I had been watching Supernatural since the first episode ever aired. I was watching since day one, and I was 10 years old. I grew up loving these 2 brothers no matter how much they frustrated me at times.)

Man, seeing you cry made me well up…
So, Dean dying sucked, but I agree it was the way he died that really upset people. You were saying you felt it was rushed. And the cameo by the vampire was odd. They could have picked a more interesting final villain… Interestingly enough, his death was one of the things planned from before the season even began…. It took a lot for Jensen to be ok with it - he even called Eric Kripke to talk it over… Also, I’m almost positive they would have had put Eileen in the episode as Sam’s wife if not for the pandemic. Speaking of - they would have had more cameos like Jodi and John and Mary and so on… but the coolest thing that they couldn’t do was they were gonna have the band Kansas come in and sing carry on wayward son at the roadhouse (instead of Dean driving)… Sooo, Crowley has a story. But I wanted to wait for the finale to talk about it - I will quote screenrant:
Sheppard said the writers and producers decided to move in a different direction that didn't include Crowley. He felt like they wanted to write him out for the story for about two years, even though they weren't honest with him about it. He also thought the Crowley changes were poorly done, and he went from "being the smartest character on the show to being the dumbest character on the show in two seasons." He also thinks the writers ran out of ideas for him. Interestingly, Sheppard revealed during a different 2018 convention appearance that he didn't necessarily want to leave Supernatural.
Pretty stupid situation and the show suffered from his absence.
Anyway, what a wonderful journey. I’ve watched every reaction of the show and it’s weird to know it’s all over. I’m very excited to see all the extra supernatural content coming to the channel though!

Death was unavoidable. Dean wasn't immortal after all, and the whole time doing the show, that's how Dean wanted to go (regardless of character progression). The whole point of Chuck's endings are the boys as monsters or them going against each other, which is what didn't happen. Dean's death was anti-climactic, an ending that Chuck didn't want. So, I would argue that Chuck didn't win at all.

This to me is the worst ending they could have ever done. It doesn't even have one redeemable scene for me (and that's unusual because I enjoy every episode of Supernatural at least a bit). Even four years later I'm still bitter and to this day I can't rewatch the finale. I even debated if I should watch this reaction (but I'm too curious for your thoughts to not watch it).
I could write an entire essay about why this episode is full of plot holes and erases every bit of character development the boys have ever had.
You could literally watch the first episode and then the last one and feel like you missed nothing. It's not full circle, it's reversing every bit of development. Dean being reduced to his stereotype of loving his car and pie without having any deeper emotions or grief related to Cas feels wrong after Cas' sacrifice and after season 13 when Dean was a wreck after Cas' death.
Dean dying at all but also like this was completely wrong (and Jensen hated it too). This could have maybe worked in season 5 but after 15 seasons where Dean has struggled with suicidal thoughts and finally has a chance at a normal life it feels like the wrong message to send. Especially because it's him giving up (and telling Sam to not call an ambulance when that would have taken a minute at most) which does not make sense for his character at all especially because they could have prayed to Jack too.
And Sam not mentioning Eileen once when she was an important character in season 15 feels misogynistic af even if she is supposed to be his blurry wife. They couldn't even put up any photos of the two of them together.
A lot of the finale gets excused with covid but the plan was always to have Dean die. They planned on having more people at the roadhouse in heaven but did not even try to make it happen. The actress for Ellen confirmed that she wasn't even asked to be in it. And Cas not being in the finale when he has been a character for 12 years feels completely wrong. And none of that makes sense with the covid excuse because they could get Jim Beaver back as Bobby but not a short Misha cameo (especially because they used Misha in the promo for the finale which feels icky in hindsight).

I completely agree! I hated the regression of Dean, its so infuriating. But what's worse are some of the reasons fans give for this. The main one being Dean always wanted to die fighting so this honored his wishes, and that I say BS! Dean only wanted that do to self-worth issues and a toxic upbringing, again if feels like a regression for him not to try to live and finally have a normal life with his brother! But the one the infuriates me the most is fans say "Well Sam was always the star and main character of the show so it makes sense for him to have a happy ending". I hate fans like this who claim one brother is the star and the show is about him over the other one, its fine to like one over the other but this show is about Sam & Dean and they both deserved a happy ending or at least not to be insulted like this

@@patrickmcguire7896YES! Thank you, Dean never wanted to die. Him expecting to die because of his upbringing & his self worth issues is not the same as him 'wanting' to die on a hunt & I sometimes feel like people widely misinterpret his character. Dean wanted a happy ending. He even starts mentioning it around season 13. And that's why the finale sucks so much. Throughout the seasons Dean slowly got over his issues of self worth and actually realized that he wanted to be happy & taking that away from him while regressing his character so much felt unnecessarily cruel

This is the worst final episode of any show I have ever watched, and I watched GoT. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the specifics of what happens. It's not about who dies and who gets a "happy ending". It's not about the lack of Cas and other characters. It's not about the hilarity of the masked vampires or the stupid wig or the blurry wife. It's not about Dean's 10 year long death scene that I could not take seriously.
It's the worst final episode because it even exists.
This final season was spent battling God himself. Retroactively, we now understand that more or less everything that has happened, every challenge and tragedy, has happened for God's entertainment. God is both writer and audience.
Our brave protagonists beat God himself to gain freedom over their own lives. The characters defeated the writer to escape the narrative!
We end the penultimate episode with a montage as they ride into the sunset to adventures unknown, their lives no longer entertainment for the audience, determined by a writer.
EXCEPT THE NEXT EPISODE THE WRITERS LAY OUT ALL THE REST OF THEIR LIVES FOR THE AUDIENCE
I thought they had made perhaps the perfect type of ending for a long-running show with a devoted and divided fans base, even if the execution was wonky.
    They essentially said:
"Here you go, here's the characters we know you love, do with them what you will. There is no more canon, and all previous canon can be questioned as the hand of Chuck forcing the story."
Instead, they chose to dictate exactly what happens to the characters, in an episode that feels simultaneously rushed and dragged out. They had to have control over the narrative, they couldn't let it go. There is no free will.
    Chuck won.

When Sam came to Heaven, the boys were supposed to meet at Harvelle's with all the people the met along the way & Kansas, live & in person, would be playing "their song". Even Kansas was up for it. They even started building the set! Then came COVID. That changed everything. We could've been a satisfying ending. It would have been awesome! I don’t blame the writers for giving us this lackluster episode to close out the show I seriously blame the covid pandemic! The pandemic really prevented shooting the way they wanted to end it. I think what they should do is reshoot and release a new finale the way they wanted to end it

So.. in my brain, I kind of worked out a season of a show called Alternate Endings.. where they make a bunch of different finales and then have a proper wrap party, live-streamed.
