It's awesome but not quite the depth and decibel level of the original Queen Mary & Queen Elizabeth, both of which had steam horns that would shake the piers next to them when they blasted just before pulling away from dock. I stood next to the Queen Mary in 1965 on Cunard Lines' pier #54 on New York's West Side and heard / felt that massive horn blast. Once clear of the tugs that helped it back out and turn to starboard (south) in the Hudson River, it sounded its horn again as it got underway towards the Narrows and it was still uncommonly loud.
I loved the sound of the QE2 whistle not that the word whistle does it justice. It had so much depth unlike the new QM2. I remember listening to her when she came to Liverpool and you could hear it echo all around the city buildings. Good luck to the QE2.
I remember hanging out of on of the windows on the back deck of the QE2 on its last passage through the Panama Canal and was almost able to touch the sides. What an experience that was.
Very emotional footage, bring her back and park her next to the new transport museum on the Clyde. This is the ONLY place she should be, her true home. Saw her in Dubai last week, lights on, smoke coming out the funnel. As if she is ready and waiting to sail back to the UK....
+EANSProductions It's just tradition to call it the ship's "whistle". In the same way that they still say the ship "steamed" however many nautical miles.
+sealover Its not a steam "whistle" so to speak. Its just a normal horn really, although I do think there is steam in it. Plus she has two identical whistles. One was made as a replica.
Sends shivers down my spine, Bring her back to the UK! Keep her is Southampton where she called home for 40+ years. Or take her to the Clyde where she was built NOT London which has no connection to this ship!
How sad the end for a Grand old Lady of the Sea!, The QE2, Far better that she be scuttled in mid Atlantic, than to end up in the hands of their ilk! What a tragedy!
How about Great Britain buys QM off of Long Beach, in Return Long Beach agrees to use the money Turn the SS United States into, essentially the same thing as QM. That way we have an American built ship(One of the last ones) and you can have yours...Now im just thinking outside the box but that would be cool!
+Nick Anderson It would be a good outcome indeed but it means Britain is the only country to have less money than they started with. Something governments would not be too happy about. If we get QM back, I would want QE2 back too. Preferably at their place of birth, here on the Clyde.
Unfortunately Dubai is where the money is , neither Southampton or Clydeside can afford to preserve a ship of the QE2s size and stature . The original Queen Mary was bought using oil revenues from Longbeach municipality, but I believe Disney own her. If I am correct the SS United States is on the wrong side of the country for Longbeach and would have to be towed through the Panama Canal or via Cape Horn both costing colo$$al amounts of $$$!
@Norfolkscot As far as i am aware"untill some-one corrects me), and i worked on her, the QE2 has her very own horn. You can still check out the original Queen Mary whistle(horn), on you tube. Donald Smith.
+ Kevin Dunne I agree with your sentiment there. I have worked on some British made ships. TSS Mardi Gras, Sitmar, QE2. Have visited Canberra in 1996. British made ships are the best. That being said - It is is a miracle that the 1936 QM still exists at all. For that we should all be thankful.
@Cannaegetausername I thought bringing her back to Southampton (or the Thames Estuary) as a hotel ship for the Diamond Jubilee and Olympics. Then converting her into a dual hotel-museum ship, alternating between Southampton and the Clyde (just to keep her engines fresh).
A powerful piece of footage, It made me shiver hearing the sound of those horns. It was a bit like 'Close Encounters' but 100x better. She needs to be brought back home, in UK were she belongs.
I believe the siren on the QE11 was the siren from the original Queen Mary. If so why was it not removed and reinstalled in one fo the new Queens. Being a Glaswegian I was fortunate in visiting QE11 in dry dock at Greenock. I saw Queen Elizabeth in John Brown's fitting out basin just one week before she left to sail non stop to New York.WW2. I saw the 'Ship Beautiful ' Aquitania at the Tail of the Bank on her last journey to Faslane.
Aw ! Kind of sad,.really..I'm Canadian and don't know the ship but its sad, sounds lonely already,.So y is it going to Dubai of all places,.Doesn;t it belong elsewhere,.?
@Flyssc1 I know that we all missed the ship but if you want to bring it back where it belongs from the dubai's you need a lot of money. EST-Euro6-7 million dollars >
Esta nave debe volver a Inglaterra urgentemente. we all should create a facebook groupe to encourage her new owners to move her back to UK and we could get some media attention.. look when betty white hosted SNL
News 2017: After years of decay the QE2 is actually undergoing work to become a centerpiece of a new marina in Port Rashid, Dubai. This is a several year project. The plan is on show, but details of the refit of QE2 are kept secret from the public, but photos show that something is going on. Of course we can't be absolutely sure before this project is completed but for now NO SCRAPPING is in sight!
Evolution Inc. It's planned to be a 100 suite and 300 room floating hotel and it will most likely open this year, maybe already this spring. I think they've thought of the museum part too. A bad thing is that they've removed the lifeboats and davits. They haven't been very open about the details of this project. I don't know if they gonna put some lifeboats back or if they will leave the engines intact.
Makes me cry ! Why Cunard has made such a mistake of selling Britain's pride to this b....y country? QE2 deserves to return to UK her legitimate place.
There is no ship's whistle like the QE2 - it still makes me get goosebumps!
+Tessa Dallyn-Roberts QE2's whistle and QM2 are equal in my mind as QE2 has the best sound but QM2 has the oldest and loudest horn.
Same here
QE2’s horn sound is actualy an error

She telling QM2 to "get me OUT OF HERE and TAKE ME HOME to ENGLAND!"
+baritonebynight Why England and not Britain. After all she technically is Scottish.
baritonebynight she just wants to sail the seas once again, sad that will never happen
well she may go back to cunard because they didn't do anything to QE2 so they trying to send her back
@@nickhaveron935 eh not really
The museum Hotel thing worked out but I do think it should have been moored on the Thames in London now that would be something to see
I worked on QE2 for five years. Lots of very special memories too. However it's sad to see her just rotting in Dubai. An important part of my life
Reminds my of my beloved “Pa”. He sadly died in 1996. We had so many happy times on QE2. A proper ship.
I loved the sound of the QE2 whistle not that the word whistle does it justice.
It had so much depth unlike the new QM2.
I remember listening to her when she came to Liverpool and you could hear it echo all around the city buildings.
Good luck to the QE2.
QE2 - what a glorious Eb!!! So sad that she is in Dubai. She should be back where she was born!
Yes
I’ve seen her
QE2's whistle is unmistakable - easy to recognize (and always a welcome "voice").
QE2 needs to come home where she belongs..
great/emotional vid . thanks for sharing
Well she belongs in Dubai as a floating hotel now. I actually think she looks real nice.
Like a family member visiting an elderly relative at the retirement home..
"Please take me with you... don't leave me here..."
I remember hanging out of on of the windows on the back deck of the QE2 on its last passage through the Panama Canal and was almost able to touch the sides. What an experience that was.
Thank you for this! The most 'royal' whistle of the seven seas!
Such a lovely ship! I'm not even british, and it breaks my heart that she's not in the U.K.
Yes m indian nd I feel the same
Very emotional footage, bring her back and park her next to the new transport museum on the Clyde. This is the ONLY place she should be, her true home. Saw her in Dubai last week, lights on, smoke coming out the funnel. As if she is ready and waiting to sail back to the UK....
When will people realize that modern ships and trains don't have WHISTLES, they have AIR HORNS.
+EANSProductions It's just tradition to call it the ship's "whistle". In the same way that they still say the ship "steamed" however many nautical miles.
+Debbie King One of QM2:s three whistles are donated from the first Queen Mary so it must be a real whistle.
+sealover Its not a steam "whistle" so to speak. Its just a normal horn really, although I do think there is steam in it. Plus she has two identical whistles. One was made as a replica.

@@flewtheshoe7523 yeah we know
I miss the QE2 so much.....*sob*
QE2 certainly has a more impressive horn than QM2.
I like both, the QM2 after all has the original Queen Mary horn fitted.
Queen Mary: hold my horn
One of QM2s horns is from the Queen Mary.
@@DanM012324 Well one of them.
Sadly QE2’s magnificent horn no longer sounds like that today.

BACK TO THE CLYDE!
Finally someone else who wants them back on the Clyde!
The s us is the last American build ship
Happily, the QE2 lives on as a hotel in Dubai, instead of going to the breakers.
best horn ever. clyde built ship, hopefully we can bring her back!

Love our queen's
Even though QE2's home port was Southampton, she deserves to be bought back up the Clyde where she was bulit and launched.
the Qe2 should have been given back to the city of her birth, Glasgow where the Queen Mary was also built but is in longbeach calafornia

QM2's horn is actually from the original Queen Mary.
bring her back to the clyde !!!
Not like there's really anything left of John Brown shipyard in Clydebank...
QE2's horn is far more impressive than QM2's.
QE2 should be located in Southampton, New York, Sydney or London as they’re considered her homes.

She was saved and she's now a hotel in Dubai. She opened in 2018 or so.

She was saved as a hotel however. Not all is bad ua-cam.com/video/pgNShGnwdsw/v-deo.html

Hope to bring our QE2 bk in Southampton where she belongs
Can the QE2 have the same horn system as the QM: the horn blows every 12am, 3pm and 6pm
Why at 12 AM out of all times? your gonna wake up faster than how United States could go.
